Supernatural test

~ The Next day ~

The whole atmosphere was saturated with whispers and indistinct chattering, as all the academy's new recruits converged in the test room.

The room was a very large one which was capable of containing twice the number of crowd it already held.

It had neatly patterned gold walls and it's floor had gold and silver colours which didn't mix.

Just like the room I slept in last night, it had warm lighting from a source I couldn't see.

Dressed in a new outfit which mysteriously appeared upon my bed, I found myself amongst the noisy crowd, but remained silent and unable to ask any of the questions I had in mind, simply because I was too afraid to do so.

Instead, I observed most things around me, taking note of people's names and faces as they interacted with one another.

I stole a gaze at the girl who asked the same question I had in my mind earlier; she was standing beside me, but didn't notice me...or so I thought.

"This is just so stupid...I wonder what test they're gonna give us..."

"Do you have a clue?", she asked.

My scanning gaze finally got locked upon her smiling face. The purple glasses she wore highlighted her flawless beauty.

Completely paralyzed by her breathtaking appearance, I could do nothing but endlessly stare at her.

She had a long ebony black hair, and looked even more prettier with the smile she wore on her face.

Luckily for me, I finally snapped out of my fascination and managed to catch my breath after what seemed like hours. That was when I could hear her words clearly;

"I see you have no clue...I'm Zora."

She slightly adjusted her glasses, while upholding her warm smile.

"I-I'm Daryn... it's nice to meet me", I stammered.

"I mean...you"

By now, it was obvious that she could see how nervous I was, but it only made her smile even more.

"Nice to meet you too", she said.

Just about when she was to speak again, there was an interruption.

A wild gust of wind began blowing towards the slightly raised podium form all directions. It spun over and again, blowing everyone's hair and clothing in several directions, until it condensed.

Soon after the blowing wind ceased, the headmistress and her assistant were seen standing upon the podium. It was their grand entrance.

With a flick of her hands, she fixed everyone's clothes and hair.

I was forced to part ways with Zora when the headmistress instructed everyone to fall into two straight lines - one for girls, and the other for boys. The girls had to stand on the golden part of the floor, while the boys had the silver part.

It was obvious that the test was about to begin, and I couldn't wait to know what would happen next.

Beside the headmistress and her assistant were two brilliantly glowing, yellow orbs. They were placed upon a floating barrier for everyone to see.

Just above the floating orbs stood a translucent screen which displayed a welcome message for everyone to see.

The room turned silent after a loud  trumpet - like sound drew our attention.

"Thank you Tabitha", said the headmistress.

"These orbs are powered by a special magical spell that can detect any supernatural being and the powers the possess."

With another flick of her fingers, she commanded the orbs to descend in a manner that they wouldn't be too high for even the shortest individuals amongst us to reach.

"The rules of the test are simple...", she began.

"Each person is expected to gently gently place any hand upon the orb in front of them for only a few seconds. Whether you're a supernatural or not, it will be detected by the orbs...the kind of supernatural you have been identified as will be displayed on the screen in front of you."

"Every supernatural will be automatically teleported to the fabrication room, where your uniforms and ID cards will be given...as for non supes, you'll be taken back to your families unhurt, but with your memories of this place completely erased", she finished explaining.

The whole crowd rumbled with whispers and much more chattering on hearing her words, while I just stood in line and remained silent.

She remained silent as well, allowing the people to express themselves for only a short while.

"Any questions?", she asked.

Everyone turned silent again, just like I already was. They noticed how her pleasant composure was gradually starting to melt into anger.

With no one bold enough to speak, let alone ask questions, the test began.

"Mum, stay back!"Taking his mum's arm, Kaleb yanked her backwards before sliding a dagger out of his pocket. Beads of sweat flushed down his face as he approached the tent, pointing the dagger outwards with each step he took. His whole body trembled while trying to maintain a solid grip on his dagger. Gradually approaching him from behind, his mum whispered, "Kaleb, don't go."Whoosh! They both flinched backwards, quivering when their eyes fell upon a mysterious figure clad in a Ninja's outfit. Frozen, they could only watch as the figure approached them, dried leaves rustling from behind him. Soon enough, the air became filled by their loud shrieks when the corpses of Kayla and her dad appeared beside the stranger in the poof of a dark smoke. Kaleb averted to his gaze to his mum as she fell on her knees, tears pouring from her eyes while she continued sobbing. "Who are you?", he cried. "Why did you kill them?""What do you want from us?!" Goosebumps carpeted his whole skin whe

~ Daryn ~I found myself standing beside an unconscious Daemon who laid upon a pile of books. "What happened?", I asked. With a grunt, his eyes flickered until he shot a steady gaze at me for a minute before managing to get back on his feet. Wearing a frown on his face, he asked, "Dude...are you okay?""I-I don't know...I feel kind of weird, like my mind was swallowed by darkness", I answered. I honestly didn't understand what happened; it felt as though there were missing gaps in my memories, and no matter how hard I tried to recall them, nothing came through. "How did you step into section 118 without getting plunged by the invisible barrier?", he asked. My face crumpled into a deep frown at the sound of his words. All I could remember was that I blacked out immediately the lights went off, nothing more. "I was here the whole time...I don't remember stepping into section 118", I argued. "Then how did you get that book?"That was when my attention became drawn to the strange l

  • Stranger Things (Part One)

~ Daryn ~The library was lit up by a brilliant golden light which was being emanated from tiny winged creatures, the size of a bug. Its several sections were spanned with wooden bookshelves which held books regarding the categories they represented, ranging from magical creatures to other supernatural stuff. The labels for each category were clearly engraved upon the chess patterned floor. Just as my marvelled gaze swept around the whole room, I couldn't help but accept the truth that this place was heaven. Receiving a shoulder bump from Daemon yanked me out of my amazement, allowing me to notice the blonde lady whose glossy red lipstick gleamed as she beamed at us. "You must be fascinated by the magic in this place", she spoke in a calm tone. "You're probably freshmen, right?"While I nodded in agreement, Daemon responded, "Yeah". "Uh...so, what are you doing here by this time of the night?", she asked. "Couldn't sleep, so we came to check out this place...and probably to do so

  • Boys' Night

~ Daryn ~We popped up in the dark and silent hallways, quietly trailing further into the darkness. Unsure of why we were here or where we were headed to, I remained behind Daemon and let him take the lead; afterall, he was the one with night vision and not me. Pulling him backwards after what seemed like a few minutes, I whispered, "You do know that we could get into trouble for leaving our dorm by this time of the night, right?"But he ignored me, causing my heart to pound even more in fear. I just couldn't understand why we were here and it gave me the chills because there was every possibility of getting busted, which could lead to some kind of serious punishment from the headmistress. I gulped when we walked past the unrestricted part of the hallways and took the left turn which lead to the restricted areas. "I sense trouble", I whispered. This place wasn't totally dark like the former, but was lit up by a faint golden light. As we walked past an array of silver doors, I let

  • It Worked?

~ Daryn ~"Ouch...it hurts", I cried. It all started right after I got my ass brutally kicked by a fellow freshman named Runn, during combat class. He lunged several lethal spells at me, but the last one hurt more than hell. I grabbed my chest as I fell to the ground, wriggling in pain after I got blasted by a heavy wave of defense magic which nearly ripped out my soul; I was almost losing my last breath until Daemon showed up and rescued me. "Get better next time", was all the combat instructor could say to me in front of the whole class. I felt like crying and screaming, but it would've only added more embarrassment to what I was already facing. I sighed each time I recalled Zora's disappointed reaction when she flung her gaze at me. My heart became filled with nothing but hatred for the academy, because that wasn't the kind of adventure I was hoping to have. Everyone's eyes peered at me as Daemon lifted me up and hung my arm around his shoulder, causing me to feel ashamed."Lo

  • Did you say...Coldwater?

The magical bureau was a vast building, rumored to be located upon Mount Nowhere; it was restricted to only high level supernaturals in the academy. One could call it a secret magical library which housed various kinds of magical artefacts and some mysterious creatures, all protected by the Dean's powerful barrier spell. As the Dean trailed down the hallway which was brightly lit up by a warm golden light, he averted his gaze to his diamond sceptre, only to realize that someone was waiting for him in the office. "Lyra", he sighed before poofing away. On arriving at his office, his gaze met with the headmistress who seemed captivated by what she saw. He watched her gaze settle upon the room's freshly waxed wooden walls; the air had a sweet scent which invaded her senses, causing her to feel even more relaxed on the chair where she sat. The rustling sounds which could be heard through the open windows each time the cool breeze brushed dry leaves back and forth, felt really soothing.
