Chapter Three

System

**INITIALIZING**

**Host's compatibility with System:.....90%**

**Hello Host**

Staring at the blue screen in front of him, Jacob went blank for a few seconds. As he had read many novels, he was not new to the system theory, bit he just couldn't believe he could actually get a system.

"Errr, what can you do??", Jacob asked, confused as to why the system did not explain it's purpose.

**Replying to host; System's purpose is to help host Awaken**, the system replied.

Getting excited, Jacob asked the system "To help me awaken my own magic??"

**No**. Shocked, Jacob asked again "Then awaken what??"

**Host's current level is too low to access the information**

Getting frustrated, Jacob decided to shelve that aside for now; "Status Window", Jacob muttered

**Status Window**

Name: Jacob Nicholas

Level: 0(50 Exp needed to level up)

Class: Unawakened[Lowest]

Race: ??????

_______________**

'Hmmmn, so I'm at the lowest Level, and what is this question mark in front of the Race??, Am I not human??', Jacob thought; "How do I level up??", Jacob asked. Since the world he transmigrated into was a world which placed a strong emphasis on strength, he had to get stronger if he did not want to get trampled on.

**Replying to host; host could get stronger by killing other living organisms or by completing Quests**

'Hmmmm, killing living organisms??', looking around, Jacob saw an ant crawling beside him; Lifting his right foot, he stomped on the ant, trying to test out a theory he just came up with.

Receiving no notification, he asked "Where is the exp??"

** Since host is too weak to stoop as low as to kill an ant, no exp is rewarded**

Restraining the urge to curse at the system, Jacob asked "Do I get any starters package??";

**No**

Feeling disappointed, Jacob walked home dispiritedly; he just couldn't understand his luck, he died, crossed over to a new world where things seem to be working against him, and he also got stuck with a snobbish system.

Walking to the front gate of the Nicholas' home, he took a deep breath, displacing all the images playing in his mind; although he was not the real Jacob, he could still feel the emotions ingrained into this body. The dead Jacob seemed to have a very tight relationship with his late parents. Hardly had he pushed the gate open did he hear a notification from his system.

**Ding, Curse Magic detected within vicinity of host; The curse seems to have been casted by a very powerful awakened. The curse magic was used to summon some Level D monsters. The efficacy of the curse has been used up already**

Hearing the notification, Jacob gripped the handle of the gate tightly, his knuckles turning white; It seemed his parents in this world were also plotted against, same as his parents on earth.

Scoffing coldly, Jacob thought ' It seems like there are even more monsters in the safe zones than the red zones'.

'I swear to eradicate all the Monsters in the safe zone completely', Jacob thought, his will overflowing with a strong sense of justice.

**Ding, a strong sense to get stronger has been sensed in the host, assigning the following quest.

Quest name: Get Stronger

Quest difficulty: E

Quest description: Go to the Shimmering Woods and hunt F ranked monsters

Reward for completion: A D ranked skill book

Penalty for failure: Get killed by Monsters in Shimmering Woods.**

Looking at the screen in front of him, Jacob got excited, especially for the D ranked skill book as the reward.

Having checked every nook and cranny around the house, Jacob fixed a little something to eat and went to his room.

Since it was already dark, he packed a few useful items and left the house, directly heading towards the Shimmering Woods.

Shimmering Woods was a controlled hunting ground for mercenaries or a training ground for newly Awakeneds trying to hone themselves through combat. It was under the jurisdiction of the White Hunters guild and they make a fairly good profit from running the Woods. The Monsters in there were mainly ranked F to D, and once the Monsters get out of control, the guild would send their trained hunters to eradicate some of them and keep them in control. But although it was controlled, it was quite easy to sneak in.

Jacob sneaked in through one of the unmanned entries and quickly ran deep inside the forest before he got caught by any of the White Hunters guild workers.

Using the system's detection ability, Jacob was able to evade all the detection mechanisms put in place by the White Hunters guild.

After weaving through all the detection mechanisms, Jacob finally stopped at a place he was sure nobody would find him.

After searching for a while, he finally spotted a Monster. "Observe", Jacob muttered and a second later, the information about the Monster popped up in front of him.

**Three-Clawed Ground rat;

Rank : F

Magic : None

The lowest ranked Monster in Shimmering Woods, it is aggressive and uses it's sharp sense of smell to find prey, and has three sharp claws it uses as deadly weapons.

Usually hunts alone.**

Seeing the information about the Monster, Jacob took out the dagger he brought from home.

Walking closer to the Monster, he readied himself; Hardly had he walked any closer did the Monster turn it's grotesque face towards Jacob, snarling, it stood on it's hind paws and with a strong leap, flew towards Jacob.

Jacob, brandishing his dagger also lunged forward, restraining the urge to scream out a war cry.

And like that, the tale of the Man that scares Monsters was born.

Some few kilometres away from the Shimmering Woods, two young men were going back home from Work, and decided to pass through a dark alley, since it was a shorter path to their home. Walking through the alley, they both suddenly started shivering from the chilly wind that just suddenly kicked up.

"Hey dude, c c can you feel that cold, it's home chilling", the first man managed to say through clenched teeth.

"Yeah I can, I g g g guess it's an ice magician practicing his spells nearby"; Just as he finished speaking, they heard the wails of a woman nearby, scaring them to their bones.

Walking faster, they turned a corner only to find that a thick fog had materialised in front them.

"Dude, this bone chilling wind, the wails of a woman and this thick fog, this isn't an ice spell, it's a Curse spell!!", the first man told his friend. Panicking, the two young men dropped to their knees and begged." "Highly Esteemed Curse Magician, we mistakenly trespasssed on your training ground, please pardon us and we will leave immediately", the two men said, begging for their lives. As if in reply to their pleas, everything suddenly got quiet; Staring at each other, looks of relief could be seen on their faces as they once again chorused; "Thank you for sparing us Highly Esteemed Curse Magician, we will leave immediately", bowing again, the two men stood up. Turning around, the two young men were stumped by what they saw; standing in front of them was a dark silhouette with the figure of a woman, her hair draped in front of her, covering her face, but the ends of the hair were dripping with blood. Scared out of their wits, the young men screamed. But their cry of horror was only heard for a second, before munching and squelching sounds could be heard. A few meters away from the grotesque scene, a cloaked figure could be seen, peering right into the fogs.

"Yes, eat well my precious, eat well, for it's almost time", the man muttered, seeming to enjoy the sickening sounds of flesh being eaten.
