It was half past five in the evening when Mason got home, drained and hungry. Mrs Harper and Sabrina were sitting on the rocks outside the orphanage when he arrived and they both had looks of surprise on their faces. It wasn't a secret to them that Mason got bullied at school a lot, and because of that he usually got home late, bruised and weak from the fight. But today was different because he had not only gotten home three hours early than he normally did but was also looking sharp and clean. Even his school uniform was in the right places instead of being torn like they normally did.

"Hey, you got home early today? Did you escape fighting today?" Sabrina mocked from where she sat while Mrs Harper just watched.

"Funny you should say that because I actually got into a fight today and won." Mason replied and Sabrina just broke down laughing.

"Anything funny?" He asked but she just kept laughing.

"I told you Mason, the day you win a fight is the day I will crawl through Beverly town naked"

"Then you'd better get prepared for that day Sabrina because you just might have to do that." Mason shrugged and was about to walk inside the building when he suddenly remembered something. Immediately, he turned and activated the system as he did.

"Sabrina, can you see this little blue thing flowing over here?" He asked and watched as Sabrina just looked at him like something who had gone mad.

"Come on, just answer me, please."

"There's nothing there Mason, are you perhaps dizzy from the fight today?" Sabrina asked with a smug look and Mason rolled his eyes.

"What about you Mrs Harper? Can you see anything?"

"Go on and eat Mason, there's nothing there." Mrs Harper said and Mason just sighed. That confirmed it, no one else could see the system aside from him which was really strange because it was really huge and floating right in front of him.

"Well, remind me not to get too lost while looking at it in public." Mason made a mental note and was about to get inside when he suddenly remembered something else. Immediately, he activated the golden eye and decided to use it on Mrs Harper and Sabrina.

[Name - Sabrina Carpenter]

[Race - Human]

[Ability - None]

[Level - 0]

[Name - Harper Thorne]

[Race - Human]

[Ability - Weapons Proficiency]

[Level - 5.5]

[Innate Ability - none]

"Wow." Was all Mason could say as he read through the information in front of his eyes. The skill was indeed incredible, even more so than he had imagined it to be. With this, he could get information on whoever he wanted whenever he wanted without having to go through any trouble.

And also, he already expected Sabrina stats to turn out the way they did since she wasn't a neohuman. But Mrs Harper on the other hand was indeed amazing. She was a level 5.5 user at just age twenty eight with the weapon proficiency skill. Mason had heard from a lot of her friends that her ability was really amazing. With that, she was able to use anything she got her hands on as a weapon and could use it efficiently, making her armed and dangerous. And because of that, she was always considered a rare gem and was always sought out for since there weren't a lot of weapon proficiency users in the world. A pity she lost her leg during a mission.

Mason thought in his head as a tear formed in his eyes. Someday in the future he wished he would get a cure for her leg or anything at all that might get her back into the field because he knew she missed it.

But another thing that caught his eyes was the innate ability option. Although Mrs Harper had no innate ability, Mason had heard from the news and books that innate ability users were rare and often considered very powerful. They were considered dual ability users as their innate abilities deferred from their original abilities. And although Mason had never met one, he often wish he would meet one and see how powerful they really were.

"Hey, are you in some kind of trance or what? I've been talking to you for minutes now." Sabrina yelled as she hit Mason on the arm, breaking him out of his deverie.

"Ouch! What the fuck Sabrina?" Mason yelled back. It seemed Sabrina had been talking to him for minutes now and was already standing in front of him while he stared at the system.

"I've been calling your names for hours now."

"Then you could have just tapped me. You didn't need to hit me."

"Just get in and eat you birdbrain."

"That was really rude Sabrina. I'm telling Mrs Harper on you." Mason yelled back as they hurried inside while Mrs Harper just kept watching. Those two really behaved like brothers and sisters even though they weren't really from the same family. And she just wished it would go on that way forever even though she knew it would not.

Mrs Harper knew in her heart that the dragon bloods would someday come back in the future. It may be months from now or years, no one really knew. She just knew they would be back and that this time around they would destroy everything that laid in their path. And she knew this because she had seen it with her own two eyes, three years ago, after being sent on that deadly mission to an undisclosed planet. The neohumans force had just discovered a new planet and had sent over two hundreds neohumans including her to get information on that planet. But the mission had proved to be a failure as many lives were lost. Mrs Harper herself had lost her leg along with the lives of several others. It appeared they had been sent on the planet that the dragon bloods inhabited and were no match for them. They had defeated them all and had killed a lot. Only a few survived but with long lasting injuries. They were later dismissed from the neohuman Force after that and the mission was classified a failure although it was never made public.

Mrs Harper sighed and closed her eyes as she thought of the past. She could feel her tears struggling to go down her face but she managed to fight them back. Oh how she loved to fight back then, to feel the wind on her face as she took down her enemies. She was considered a prowess, a force to be reckon with. Too bad all that was gone now. Right now her only wish was to protect the orphanage and the children, no matter how long it would last.

////The Next Day////

Mason woke up early at six the next day and immediately began to do his daily quest. After completing it, he summoned the system and saw that his Exp bar was now at 70 which was good because he needed all the Exp he could get. He still wanted to confirmed what would happen if he got it to reach two hundred.

Would he level up like he did during his fight with Drake? Or would he get a new skill like the golden eye? Mason wondered as he existed the orphanage.

After getting to the orphanage, he noticed that something had changed since yesterday. Some of the students seems to be murmuring something amongst themselves.

"Stay away from him. He's a freak. He threw Drake all the way from the second building"

"I know right. Heard he almost lost his life, good thing he's an ability user and a bodybuilder. His strong muscles saved his life."

Mason was able to hear everything they were saying since they were at a close proximity. But instead of being remorseful, Mason just smiled. It was better this way. At least with this, he wouldn't be bullied for a while.

  • Night Has Come

In the long hours leading up to midnight, Mason stood before the broad mirror, dressed in a black suit that complemented the mask on his face. [Intermediate Gauntlets Equipped]The system announced, and Mason took a deep breath as he examined the gauntlets that had now appeared on his arms. Like the previous ones, the intermediate gauntlets were red in color and identical to the basic ones he'd just lost - with the only difference being the significant boost in defense and attack—two times more than what the basic ones had to offer. However, as he kept staring at them, Mason wondered if they'd be enough for what lay ahead tonight. His last gauntlets had been damaged by Carl Wallace's intense punches, after their intense battle at the Dead Grounds. And as night approached, something told him he'd be facing even more formidable opponents than Carl Wallace tonight. "I guess we have to see about that," Mason thought as he took another deep breath, before walking towards the open window

  • A Dreamwalker

"And that just about covers everything," Maya said after she had finished explaining her dreams to Aunt Vanessa and the woman whose name she still didn't know yet."So let me get this straight, you said you started having these dreams after meeting Jasper and Mason, correct?" Aunt Vanessa asked with a serious expression, and Maya nodded."And these boys, what are they?" Maya hesitated for a while as Aunt Vanessa asked the question, wondering why she had even asked it in the first place or what it had to do with the dreams she was having. But when she thought of the terrible dream she'd had and her reason for being here, Maya decided to tell her everything."Jasper is an original, from the house of Vaughn," she began and took a deep breath as Aunt Vanessa raised a brow."As for Mason... Well, it's hard to explain.""I'm a witch, Maya, trust me, I can handle hard. So just take your time and tell me everything. The more detailed it is, the better," Aunt Vanessa assured her, and Maya nodd

  • A Witch

"Welcome home, Maya. We've been waiting for you," Aunt Vanessa said with a warm smile, and Maya found herself staring in surprise."You were expecting me?" Maya asked, her voice laced with shock and confusion. How on earth could they have expected her to come if she had told no one she was coming? Or had her dad told them she was coming after she had left home? Maya wondered, but quickly decided to leave it at that and move on to the more important task at hand."My dad told me I could find you here. Please, I need your help, Aunty. Something's happening to me, and I can't explain it," Maya added, hoping Aunt Vanessa could provide some answers. But Aunt Vanessa just stood there, taking a quick, piercing stare at her. "The eyes of a newborn. I see. You've just awakened," she said with a knowing smile and Maya cocked a brow, confused. "What?""Come on in, Maya. Like I said, we've been waiting for you," Aunt Vanessa said, stepping aside to let Maya enter."Waiting for me? What do you mea

  • Finding Vanessa

Mr. Freyborn stood at the edge of his balcony, gazing up at the stars in the night sky as the sound of passing vehicles hummed through the streets. It was 8 pm now - an hour since Maya had left for Cole City, headed to her aunt's place in search of answers. And as Mr. Freyborn stood there, gazing up at the stars, he wished she'd find the answers she sought."Please, Martha—please watch over our little girl," Mr. Freyborn whispered under his breath, gazing up at the stars as a single tear rolled down his cheek. He knew exactly what Maya was and the kind of answers she'd find where she was headed. He had prayed every single day of his life that this day would never come, and that she'd never awaken to her true nature. His wife had done all she could to shield Maya from this life, allowing her to live a normal life, but it appeared fate had other plans. He could only wish now that the heavens would watch over his daughter and protect her from all harm. As her journey from here on out was

"Here, drink this. It will help with the headache," Mr. Freyborn said, handing Maya a cup of yellow tea as she sat on her bed. Maya took the cup and gulped down the tea, feeling it burn her palate like a smooth flame. Warmth spread through her body, all the way down her chest, and a few seconds later, her headache disappeared, as if it was never there."What is it?" Maya asked, returning the cup. The tea tasted different from any other tea she'd had. It was sour and bitter, but worked like magic. And she could feel her body buzzing with energy."It's Namal tea, a specialty of your grandma's," Mr. Freyborn replied. "Your mom taught me how to make it several years ago."Maya smiled at the mention of her mom's name. Ever since they'd lost her, her dad rarely spoke about her, leaving Maya wondering if he still hadn't gotten over her death. But after all these years, she was happy he was finally talking about her."I miss her too, Dad," Maya said, staring at her mom's portrait beside her b

"What are you talking about, Maya? What do you mean by 'we are all going to die'?" Mason asked as he settled on the bed beside her, wondering what she meant by that. Everyone else had their eyes on her, curious about why she was suddenly saying that."I... I had a dream, Mason, and in that dream, I saw you and Jasper die," Maya said with fear in her voice and Mason could swear he could smell it on her body."Like you said, Maya, it's just a dream," Mason said, and Jasper nodded from where he sat."He's right, Maya, it's just a dream. Nothing bad is going to happen to us, okay?""You don't understand, okay? It's not just a dream," Maya snapped with fear in her voice and immediately broke down to crying."I've been getting these dreams lately, and I fear they are not just ordinary dreams. They feel more real than you can imagine, and I fear it might turn out to be true, and... and then, I might lose you two," Maya explained as more tears flowed down her eyes and Mason wondered if this w
