Chapter 3.
Noah was still thinking about the number when he got home.
20×.
He had expected the system to get stronger. Seeing the result for himself was different. He picked up his phone again. There was only one way to know for sure.
That night, Noah went to a restaurant and ordered a $50 dinner. There was no strategy behind it. He was hungry.
The moment he paid, his phone lit up.
[Purchase: $50]
[Reward: $1,000]
Noah opened his banking app. His balance was already $1,000 higher.
It had happened within seconds.
He stared at the screen. “This is crazy.”
A thousand dollars used to mean several days of work. Now it had taken one meal.
Noah put his phone away.
The system suddenly looked different. If every dollar he spent really came back twentyfold, then money wasn't the limit.
His spending was.
The next day, Noah went shopping.
He replaced a few old shirts, bought some pants, a pair of shoes, and a jacket he'd been putting off buying for months.
The total came to $500.
As soon as he paid, another notification appeared.
[Purchase: $500]
[Reward: $10,000]
Noah opened his banking app again.
Ten thousand dollars.
He checked the balance twice. It hadn't changed. “If I told anyone about this, they'd probably think I'd lost my mind.”
Before he could close the app, another notification appeared.
[New Mission]
[Spend $10,000 within seven days.]
Noah raised an eyebrow. “Ten grand?”
There was no explanation of what he'd receive for completing the mission. That didn't surprise him anymore.
The system never gave him the full picture. If he wanted answers, he'd have to find them himself.
Noah looked at the mission again.
Seven days.
He had seven days to spend $10,000.
This time, he wasn't going to waste it. He wanted to see how far the system could take him.
---
The next day, Noah stopped outside an upscale restaurant downtown.
He knew the place.
A few years ago, he'd stood outside that same restaurant and looked at the prices through the window before walking away. Back then, spending hundreds of dollars on a single meal had been unthinkable.
Today, he pushed the door open.
“Welcome, sir.” A waiter greeted him.
Noah chose a table by the window. “Can you recommend your best dishes?”
“Of course, sir.” The waiter handed him a menu.
Noah glanced through it and closed it.
He didn't need to check the prices anymore. He ordered a few dishes that caught his attention.
By the time dinner was over, the bill came to $1,200.
Noah paid without a second thought. A few seconds later, his phone buzzed.
[Purchase: $1,200]
[Reward: $24,000]
Noah glanced at the screen.
Twenty-four thousand dollars. He slipped the phone back into his pocket.
The waiter who had served him earlier approached with a small card. “Sir, are you already a member of our restaurant?”
“No.”
“We have a private membership for select guests. If you're interested, I can have our manager explain the benefits.”
“Sure.”
A few minutes later, a man in his fifties approached the table. “Mr. Reed?”
Noah stood. “Yes?”
“I'm Daniel Harris, the owner.” They shook hands. “I heard you enjoyed the dinner.”
“It was good.”
Daniel chuckled. “I'll take that as a compliment.”
He explained the membership.
It cost $5,000 a year.
Members received access to private dining rooms, the members' lounge, priority reservations, and several other perks unavailable to regular customers.
Noah considered it for a moment. Five thousand dollars wasn't a problem.
“Fine.” He paid.
His phone lit up again.
[Purchase: $5,000]
[Reward: $100,000]
Noah looked at the notification for a few seconds. Five thousand dollars had just turned into a hundred thousand.
He almost laughed.
For most people, the membership was expensive. For Noah, it was starting to feel like a bargain.
After dinner, he headed into the members' lounge. It was much quieter than the main dining area.
Noah had barely sat down when the woman at the next table answered a call.
“Yeah?”
He listened for a few seconds.
“What?” Her posture stiffened. “Don't close the store. I'll handle it.” She ended the call and dropped her phone onto the table then she rubbed her forehead.
Noah hadn't planned on getting involved, but she looked like she was having a rough night. “Everything okay?”
The woman looked over. “Sorry?”
“I couldn't help overhearing.”
“Oh.” She gave him a small smile. “It's fine.”
Noah didn't push.
A few seconds passed before she spoke again. “My name's Maya Bennett.”
“Noah Reed.”
Maya nodded. “I own a few bakeries. One of them is in trouble.”
“Sales dropping?”
“Not at all.”
That caught Noah's attention. “Then what's the problem?”
Maya pulled out her phone and opened a few photos. “The location.”
She showed him pictures of a bakery that looked fairly busy.
“We moved into a new building last year. The rent was reasonable at first. When the lease ended, the landlord nearly doubled it.”
Noah studied the photos.
The place looked clean. There were plenty of customers. It didn't look like a failing business.
“Can't you move?”
“We could. But moving would cost a lot, and we've already built a regular customer base there.” Maya sighed. “The landlord gave us seven days to clear the overdue rent. If we don't, he's terminating the lease.”
Seven days.
Noah immediately remembered his mission.
Spend $10,000 within seven days.
He looked at Maya. “Can I see the bakery?”
She frowned. “Why?”
“I want to see it for myself.”
“You're thinking about buying it?”
“Not yet.” Noah stood. “I just want to know whether the business is actually in trouble or if your landlord is the problem.”
Maya was quiet for a moment then she smiled. “Tomorrow morning?”
“Tomorrow.”
---
The bakery was about twenty minutes from downtown.
When Noah arrived, several customers were walking out with paper bags. Most of the tables inside were occupied. The line at the register wasn't long, but people kept coming through the door.
Noah took a moment to look around. “You said this place was close to shutting down?”
Maya gave a dry laugh. “Not because we don't have customers. Most of the money comes right back out as rent.”
Noah walked over to the display case. He picked up one of the freshly baked pastries.
“Can I?”
“Go ahead.”
He took a bite. “Good.”
Maya raised an eyebrow. “That's it?”
“I'm not a bakery expert.”
“At least you're honest.”
Noah smiled and looked around again. The location wasn't ideal. There wasn't much foot traffic, and parking was limited but people were still coming in.
They were here for the products, not because they happened to walk past.
Noah looked over the sales figures Maya had shown him.
The numbers were healthy with reasonable rent, the bakery could still turn a profit. “How much is the building?”
Maya looked at him. “Why?”
“I'm considering something.”
“Don't tell me you're thinking about buying it.”
“How much?”
Maya sighed. “About two million dollars.”
Noah paused. “Any debt or legal issues with the property?”
Maya looked slightly surprised. “Not that I know of. The owner just wants to sell because he's moving overseas.” “Can I see the documents?”
Maya nodded.
After checking the basic property information, Noah pulled out his phone.
“Then I'll buy it.”
Maya stared at him. “You're serious?”
“Yes.”
“You've been here for less than an hour.”
“I've seen the sales numbers.”
Noah slipped his phone back into his pocket. “The bakery isn't the problem. The rent is.”
Maya still looked uncertain. “If you buy the building, what happens to my bakery?”
“You keep it.”
“Why?”
“I don't want to run a bakery.”
Noah glanced at the display case. “Your business is already working. I just don't like paying rent for something I can own.”
Maya was silent then she smiled. “Fair enough.”
The purchase was completed a few hours later after the documents and payment were confirmed.
Property Price: $2,000,000
Noah made the payment. His phone buzzed immediately.
[Purchase: $2,000,000]
[Reward: $40,000,000]
Noah froze.
Forty million dollars. For once, even he didn't have an immediate reaction.
Maya was still checking the ownership documents beside him.
Noah handed her a copy. “The building is mine now.”
Maya looked over the documents again. “And my bakery is safe?”
“As long as you keep covering your operating costs.”
Maya laughed. “Deal.”
Noah nodded.
His phone buzzed again.
[Business Asset Acquired.]
[Special Reward Unlocked.]
Noah opened the next notification.
[Passive Income Feature Unlocked.]
A new figure appeared on the screen.
[Daily Passive Income: $2,000]
Noah stared at it.
Two thousand dollars every day. Without another transaction.
Before he could process it, another message appeared.
[Acquire 3 income-generating assets to unlock Level 3.]
Noah read the requirement again.
One down.
Two to go.
He slipped his phone into his pocket. “Then let's find the next one.”

Chapter 10Noah found Ethan in the kitchen, standing in front of a rail crowded with unfinished orders. The customer satisfaction score on his phone was still stuck at 89%. They had two hours left before the mission expired, and the number hadn't recovered."How many are we behind?" Noah asked.Ethan pointed toward the rack on his left. "Three tables have been waiting for over half an hour. Two other orders are almost ready, but if another server takes the wrong plate to the wrong table, I'm sending everyone home."Noah checked the tickets. Some had been sitting there since before Daniel fell ill. With Ethan covering an extra station, new orders had kept coming in until the backlog became unmanageable."Which ones can we get out first?"Ethan tapped two tickets. "Those. They just need the finishing sauce. After that, I have to get back to the Golden Roast.""Get those two out now. Tell the servers to double-check the table numbers before they take anything."Noah flagged down a passin

Chapter 8Victor Hale moved faster than Noah had expected. Two days after his visit to Golden Plate, a renovation crew showed up at the abandoned upscale restaurant across the street. When Noah arrived that morning, workers were already mounting a new sign above the entrance.HALE'S — FINE DININGMaya appeared beside him, carrying two cups of coffee. She handed one to Noah and stared at the sign."He's really opening a restaurant right under our noses."Noah took the cup. "At least we won't have to go far to see how he's doing."Maya turned to him, looking for any sign that he was joking. "Victor doesn't throw money around without a reason. I heard he's hired two chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants. And with his family's connections, I wouldn't be surprised if half the city's influential people have already booked tables before the place even opens."Across the street, workers unloaded crates from a delivery truck."Sounds like they'll have plenty of people willing to give them a

Chapter 6Seven days before the grand opening, Golden Plate was finally starting to look like a real restaurant again.New tables filled the dining room, and the freshly painted walls gleamed beneath the hanging lights. A few workers were still putting the finishing touches on the entrance, while the kitchen echoed with the clatter of equipment as Ethan tested the newly installed appliances.Noah checked the preparation list in his hand. The renovation was nearly complete, but there was still plenty to sort out before they could welcome their first customers.“How many staff have we hired?”Maya checked the figures on her tablet. “Six servers, two cashiers, three kitchen assistants, and two cleaners. Everyone has confirmed their schedule.”“Hire two more servers for the dinner rush.”She looked up. “We don't know how many customers we'll get yet. If the place is half-empty, we'll still have to pay them.”“And if we're busy and the service falls apart, those customers might never come

Chapter 5.Two days later, Noah and Maya tracked Ethan down at a small restaurant on the outskirts of the city. There was no expensive decor or spacious dining room. Most customers sat at simple wooden tables, and the smell of freshly cooked food hung in the air. They waited until the lunch rush died down before approaching him. Ethan was checking the kitchen inventory when Maya introduced herself and mentioned Golden Plate. His expression hardened. “I’m not interested.”Noah hadn’t even explained why they were there, but Ethan had already returned his attention to the inventory sheet.“We haven’t asked you to come back and work there,” Noah said.“Then you don’t need to waste your time coming here.”Noah took the recipe book from his bag and placed it on an empty table nearby.Ethan stopped what he was doing. His eyes settled on the worn brown cover. He put down the inventory sheet and picked up the book carefully. After opening it, he examined several pages filled with handwritten n
