As his eyes closed, Daven finally realized that no one would love him, just because he loved them in return. Only money could elevate a person’s status and make one respected. If he had money, Gerald and Maya would never have looked down on him.

If he had money, he could get wherever he wanted and even trample on those who bully him.

If he had money, he could get whoever he wanted… Just if…

With that thought, Daven finally lost consciousness on the hard floor, his breathing turned shallow as well. With no one to help him, he lay almost lifeless on the bare floor for hours.

Three hours later, Daven’s eyes fluttered open due to the sound of the phone ringing endlessly in his pocket.

He groaned, feeling his head was about to split open while the bones in his body felt like they were about to pull apart. Still, he managed to take out his phone, and while he squinted his eyes, he saw that it was his father calling.

Quickly, he connected the call, “Father, I am sorry, I will be home soon…”

He looked out the window to see that it was dark and his father must have been very worried.

“Daven…” Contrary to his expectations, his father’s voice came out very weak and fragile. “I need you here at the hospital. The bills… they need to be sorted.”

“What?” Daven gasped, sitting upright while holding onto his back in pain. “You are at the hospital? How?”

Even though his father’s health wasn't that great, when he left home, his father was healthy.

“Yes, I fell…” Suddenly, his father’s voice was cut short with a nurse’s angry voice, demanding Daven to come to the hospital immediately to sort out the bills.

In the next second, the call ended and Daven stared at the blank and cracked phone in his hand with despair. He knew the bills were going to be a lot of money and he only had a couple of hundreds of dollars to give out.

It would never be enough.

His body was now gripped with fear and hopelessness. Where was he to get money?

He needed all the money he could scrunch up and he quickly searched his pockets, hoping he would find the bills that were thrown at him earlier. However, he quickly realized that he left them on the football pitch earlier.

Slowly, he stood up to his feet, enduring his painful joints and his almost fractured back as he wobbled back to the pitch. He reached the spot he was in earlier, only to find that the money was gone.

“What are you looking for?” A voice resounded from behind and Daven turned to see one of the players.

He quickly asked, “I left some money given to me here. Did you see them by chance?”

“Oh, that…” The player chuckled. “Gerald gave it out to another cleaner. He said you didn’t need them–”

“What?” Daven gasped, not believing his eyes. He had worked hard for that money and Gerald just took it like that?

“Where is Gerald?” He asked, already feeling very annoyed.

“At the parking lot. About to leave…”

Daven didn't even wait for the player to finish his sentence before dashing away, ignoring the searing pain in his body. He didn't care whether Gerald was going to beat him up again, all he knew was that he needed to get his money back.

His father was lying sick in the hospital and he wanted to show up. He also didn't want to bother his sister for money because he had made sure his sister didn't work much and only focused on her studies.

Daven couldn't afford to fail in his breadwinner duties. One little setback wouldn't deter him.

A few minutes later, he reached the parking lot, only to see Gerald smooching Maya by the side of his car. But he didn't care about their relationship anymore, he just wanted his money.

“Why are you here again?” Maya snarled, letting go of Gerald and stomping toward Daven.

However, Daven quickly avoided her by taking a detour, shocking Maya to the core. Did he not notice her?

Daven stood before Gerald, staring at him with bloodshot eyes, and he demanded, “I heard you took my money, give it back!”

“Tch! What money?” Gerald snickered, mockingly. “$300? Is that what you call money?”

“I don’t care! My father is dying and I need to pay the bills! You wouldn't like what I would do to you if you took that money from me!” Daven warned his mind dead set on causing Gerald harm.

However, Gerald wasn't one bit scared by his threat, “Too bad...” He chuckled.

“…I already gave it out.”

At the same time, Maya chipped in, “Since your father is dying, you might as well go with him. You can take your scrawny sister along with you both too.”

“What did you just say?” Daven stared at Maya angrily and desperately holding himself back from lunging at her.

They laughed in his face, seeing his restrained body movements and as they had nothing else to say to him, Gerald slowly led Maya to his car, kick-started it, and started to drive away slowly.

However, Daven couldn't let them leave that way. He needed the money and didn't care how he was going to get it. So, he quickly ran straight and stood before the car, spreading his hands wide open to stop them.

But then, Gerald suddenly let out a sick smile, his eyes shining with wickedness.

“Do you want to watch a bloody show?” Gerald smiled at Maya and she nodded, enthusiastically.

As soon as she nodded her head, he stepped on the accelerator and drove speedily toward Daven.

Daven’s eyes widened in shock seeing Gerald’s car speeding toward him. He immediately tried to dodge but he was too slow…

Bang!

Daven’s body flew in the air and landed on the hard floor as Gerald drove out of the parking lot.

Daven coughed up blood, with his head dripping with blood and his eyes were already blurred with blood. He saw death before him and his heart clenched in anger and thirst for revenge.

However, his body had given up, his life slowly slipping away and he might never be able to get back at Gerald. He wished he could have another chance to drill a hole into that quarterback’s head. Another chance to take care of his family fully, instead of thinking about an ungrateful girl like Maya.

But at the same time, a robotic voice resounded in his head.

The hallway turned silent, as Daven stared at the old man intensely. He just needed something to hold onto, since the proposal couldn't be trusted completely. However, the old man shook his head, “I can’t let you know that.”“Like I told you. Only after you agree to the proposal would you know the details and everything you want to know, you will, after that.”“Is that so?” Daven raised a brow, as his trust dwindled. He raised his hand to wave and dismiss the old man, but then OR door was suddenly pushed open. Two nurses rushed out, and Daven immediately stood in their way, panicked.“What’s going on?” He asked.“Please, step aside…” They quickly pushed him aside, but then he saw their distress too. As they disappeared and reappeared down the hallway, they carried a box containing blood bags and Daven’s heart couldn't help but sink further, wondering if Elena would survive.“With all you have seen, wouldn’t you take my proposal? I don’t think you can stand the rage any longer…”He cl

However, at that moment, he was completely disoriented and afraid that the only woman who stood by his side would die because of him.The system didn’t even give him a mission to save her!“Step aside, Daven…” Ari pulled on his arm, but he held on to her still. He felt her pulse, how faint it was, and the way her skin was turning pale and cold.“Please, don’t die…” He muttered. “Step aside, Daven! The System had said Frederick was dangerous, and he hoped his teacher was fine.As he walked back to his school building, deciding to lay off going to Maya’, he received a call from Elena.Quickly, he connected the call and her panicked voice rang out, “Hey, where are you?”“I am at…” His eyes roamed around. “The school’s center—”“Oh shit!” She cursed. “Get away from there! Gerald is looking all over you. Ari says he has a gun.”“What?” He gasped.“Yes! Get the hell out.”Elena ended the call the next second and Daven looked around, checking his surroundings. He had expected Gerald to appear in rage, but he didn't expect the bastard would be so brazen to wield a gun.“Stupid…” He chuckled, with no ounce of fear in his eyes. And he knew no matter where he went, Gerald would always come after him. So, he walked casually around, but his eyes were on every nook and cranny.

  • Suicide Note

Daven pursed his lips, as Blackman led him into the meeting room. Georgina was also at the forefront, alongside the familiar faces from last time. However, his eyes landed on his teacher again and he saw how listless he looked. Doctor Blackman was a proud and elegant man, but he seemed to have a shadow hovering over him now.He looked sad.“What’s going on?” Daven asked, with his hands behind him. “I was told Maya left a suicide note.”“Does it concern me?”Georgina shook her head, but then stood up to pass the wrinkled note with tear stains on it.As Daven opened the note, he recognized Maya’s writing immediately and the first word on the note was his name.He read out every word with a silent whisper, “Daven, you are the only person who looked at me like I was human. My parents didn’t, nor anyone else around me.”“But I was stupid to think I wanted more, to let the pressure from my poor and uncaring parents get to me. I thought you weren’t enough, and so, I had to be with Gerald.”

  • Words Of Slander

The class murmured, pointing accusing fingers at Dayna. “She is just too rash!”“Why couldn't she just listen to save Chris? She is just a proud bitch, with no sense of reasoning!”Dayna covered her ears, glaring at Daven with eyes that spilled venom before she snapped back at the others.“Why are you all blaming?” She hissed. “Daven is the bad one here. He is the one who broke Chris’ fingers.”“Attack him! Not me!” On the other hand, Daven had let go of Chris and he now writhed on the floor, clutching his limbs. Due to the immense pain in his body, he couldn't speak a word as tears spilled from his eyes and sweat trickled down his back.Daven finally stood before Dayna, with a slight smile, “Do you really care about Chris or are you just trying to attack me?”“What…what do you mean?” She blinked and immediately stepped away from Daven due to the pressing aura around him.“I am just saying. I am not unreasonable enough to break his fingers over a petty beef you are trying to bring u

You can’t go in there and claim you are innocent.”“No one will believe you!”Daven calmly turned to look at her with a slight smile, “As long as you believe me, Elena.”“As long as Ari does too.”A few minutes later, he stepped out of the car, immediately going straight for his first class o
