2: Sudden wife

“Are you saying you never loved me?”

“Who will love a man like you?” Gift said quickly before Chloe would respond. “You couldn't even buy a diamond for her as a birthday gift. You are very useless and you are undeserving of my friendship.”

“She’s right. I let Oliver employ you which is the best I can give you. Have you ever wondered why I never let you touch me? Because you don't deserve it.” She hurried to Oliver's side. “Are you okay?”

Oliver nodded once and managed to stand with Chloe’s help.

“I tried to help you by letting you work at my company so you wouldn't even starve but now, my kindness has run dry. You, Noah, are fired. Guards! Throw him out and give him the beating of his life!” He yelled.

Several men hurried towards Noah but he couldn't even do anything at that moment. He kept thinking; thoughts were whirling in his mind in some sort of crazy confusion.

No wonder Chloe never even allowed him to kiss her. The only thing she had allowed was a hug and even that was twice. And it was because it was Noah's birthday.

Noah simply thought she was a virgin and he didn't want to rush her.

The security guards started to drag Noah out while he continued to stare at Chloe, shocked and still unable to process the whole situation. 

Soon, Chloe vanished from his sight as they finally pushed him to the ground, just outside the restaurant.

Yet, Noah couldn't respond.

They came over him at once, punching and kicking him. Noah formed a foetal position as the beating continued.

But suddenly, an image flashed across his eyes. It was so fast and unlike his that he wondered where it came from.

“It's ok!” One of them eventually stopped the others. “I think we've done enough. Let's go.”

Staring at the bruises and the blood coating every corner of Noah's face, they decided and left.

Noah went still on the floor, still curled in his ball position. But not because of the pain now but because of the images that were suddenly coming back to his memory.

A beautiful young-looking woman crouched in front of a boy of ten years.

“Cedric, you will be fine. OK?”

Then, the woman pulled the boy into a bear hug. “Don't break this until you are at the breaking point,” as she said this, she pulled back and stretched out a handheld game console.

Even though the images he saw were confusing. He recognised the game console. It looked exactly like the one he currently had with him. 

What could it mean?

“What did you just say? Grandfather is on his way already?” A feminine voice yelled from somewhere around him, startling him. “I told you to give me some time.”

The images have stopped but the pains have started to kick in, so Noah found it difficult to stand. Besides, he was too emotionally damaged to think.

“You beggar!” The voice sounded closer. “Do you want to earn some raw cash?”

Noah managed to sit up to see who the speaker was. It was a woman dressed in a white shirt and a black skirt. She looked elegant and well, very rich.

“Yes? What can I do for you?”

“Pretend to be my boyfriend.”

What! It was as if Noah didn't hear her clearly.

“I don't like repeating myself. How much are your wages? I will double it. It's just for this night. My grandfather is currently on his way here and we have to lodge right now before he gets here.”

Even though Noah had gotten his heart broken, he still needed to make money especially since he had just been fired.

He managed to stand. “Im ready.”

“Good, follow me.”

They walked into Oliver's suites and Noah silently prayed not to see someone who would recognize him. Fortunately for him, he works at the restaurant wing and the workers were different.

“My room,” The woman muttered, taking the key from the receptionist and looking back at Noah again. She shook her head briefly. “Just follow me.”

They entered one of the suites and the woman turned to Noah. “This is very simple. The old man will be here soon. Just hug me. No kiss alright?”

Noah nodded once.

Her phone beeped suddenly. She took it and went through the message. Then she looked at Noah. 

“Now!”

The door creaked open and Noah hurried to pull the woman into a hug. 

“Grandpa, see!” A masculine voice yelled, making Noah pull away from the woman.

They both looked over to see who the intruder was.

There was an old man standing in the middle of the room, and a young man beside him, followed by four escorts.

“What is the meaning of all these?” The old man yelled, clearly annoyed.

The lady stepped forward. “I told you, Grandpa, that I have a boyfriend. I don't want to marry anyone.”

“How dare you humiliate me like this?” He muttered with sadness, then he turned to Noah. “How dare you!”

“You should be ashamed of yourself, Aria. How could you disgrace your grandfather like this?” Adam, Aria’s cousin uttered.

Noah adjusted backwards in fear. “I_”

“Get him!”

The escorts rushed forward and started to give Noah another beating of his life.

Seeing this, Aria stepped forward. “Please grandpa. Don't hurt him. I love him! Please!” She beseeched softly.

The old man sighed. “Fine then. Then you will both get married. Tell him to come home tomorrow morning!” He decided.

“What! No!” Aria yelled. “I don't want to get married yet.”

“You have done such a shameful act. And you love him, then be ready to take your punishment!” The man finished in a voice that left no room for questions before he turned around and left.

The escorts also followed him, finally letting Noah go.

Aria's heart felt heavy instantly. She turned to Adam. 

“You said I would be able to excuse it! Did you know about it all!”

Everything was supposed to go well. Her grandfather was supposed to catch her with a man and cancel the marriage arrangements he had made. But she didn't expect him to suddenly make it compulsory for her to marry the man he met her with.

Adam laughed. “Perfect, isn't it? Grandfather wants you to marry his friend's grandson so you can keep the company. If you are not marrying him, then the company will be mine!” He winked, looking past her at Noah. “Be sure to take care of your new husband and don't forget to bring him over tomorrow,” he laughed again before he walked out.

Aria dropped to the floor. What had she done? She was going to marry a stranger, a beggar.
