7: Underestimated son-in-law

“But_” Gilbert started but Noah cut in sharply.

“My mother wanted me to take over which was why she sent me out of the country to get trained in martial arts. Besides, isn't this my inheritance? Why should I run away from it?”

“Vengeance is what I will do, even if it's the last thing I will do,” he decided.

Gilbert sighed. He understood Cedric quite well but he was still worried. But even at that, his order is to follow the real Cedric.

He nodded once. “Your father, II Leone controls a mafia group with over 50,000 members but someone is currently controlling it now. If people know you are back, they will try to kill you before you are even able to access your position. I suggest you meet with Jennifer because she knows more than I do.”

“Right. I should be able to meet her tomorrow, right?”

“Yes! But now, you can stay undercover.”

The night went faster. Noah had his dinner and went to sleep.

The next morning, his phone beeped with messages from Aria. Aria was waiting for him at Olive and Vine. 

Noah got ready very fast. Just as he opened the door, Gilbert was waiting at the door, a wide smile on his face.

“Good morning boss. Did you sleep well?”

Noah nodded once. “I did but I have a place to go this morning.”

Gilbert looked up at him. “Where? I will drive you there.”

Noah wasn't so used to that kindness. “Oh no, you don't have to do that. Besides, I can handle myself. It's my girlfriend's family I'm visiting anyways.”

Noah didn't want to go into much details about the matter. Besides, he already promised Aria he would show up.

Gilbert's eyes brightened up. “Really? Then, you should have this as a gift,” he muttered. 

He stretched out a wine which features a wider base, gently sloping shoulders, and a slightly longer neck. 

“This is Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and it costs $20,000. I thought we could have a little fun this morning but since you are visiting your girlfriend's family, you should give it to them.”

Noah felt somehow about it because he and Aria were actually in a contract. But if he doesn't accept the wine, he would have to make some explanations he wasn't ready to do.

“Thank you, Gilbert.”

“And one more thing,” Gilbert was saying as he stretched out a cheque to him. “This is fifty million dollars. This should keep you running till we are able to get to Jennifer.”

Noah's eyes widened. He has never seen such an amount of money. Besides, he was meeting Jennifer that day, why did he need such an amount of money?

“But isn't this too much?”

Gilbert smiled. “Nothing is too much for Cedric. Also, where are you going? My chauffeur can drop you off.”

Soon enough, the car pulled over at Olive and Vine. His phone started ringing almost immediately. 

“Noah? Where have you been? I've been waiting in the car for almost twenty minutes now,” Aria whined.

“I'm sorry but I'm here already. Can you step out of your car so I can see you?”

Aria complied and Noah saw her from among the parking lot. She was wearing a blue fitted gown that seemed to accentuate her curves.

Noah hadn't noticed Aria’s shape the previous night but now, he admitted that Aria was a walking masterpiece.

He approached her.

“Where have you been? We are late already!” She panicked.

“I'm sorry. I had to run some errands,” he lied.

They got inside the car. Her car showed moderate; she was neither rich nor poor. Her family was one of the second class families in the city anyways.

“In anything, don't say a word. You know this is all a contract. It's not like we are deep in love,” Aria warned just as the car pulled into the garage of the Giles family.

“But I got this wine for them. Can I at least give it to them?”

Aria smiled. “That's so thoughtful of you. I will reimburse you later,” she muttered and got out of the car before Noah would reply to her.

Noah wanted to tell her not to bother about it. But it didn't matter now.

The Giles family were all waiting in the living room when Noah and Aria walked inside. The living room was big but compared to Gilbert's house, it was smaller.

It was well furnished with mid taste. Five people were seated. Noah only recognized two among them. One was Aria’s cousin while the other was her grandfather.

Adam laughed. “Who is it if not my cousin and her loser husband,” he dragged lazily.

Aria glared at him. “Don't speak of him like that! You have no idea who he really is. See, grandfather, Noah got you a wine,” she said with pride and turned to Noah.

Noah, sensing the permission, moved forward, a smile on his face.

“Good day sir, I got this for you. Its Domaine de la Romanée-Cont, a one of its kind.”

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti? The old man gasped. He has heard a lot about the wine. It was a very expensive one and tasteful as well. “Really? You got this for me?” Kyle was shocked.

Adam laughed suddenly, pulling all attention to him. “Domaine de la Romanée-Conti worth over $20,000? How could he have afforded it? Isn't he Noah? One of the waiters at Olive and Vine?”

Everyone went into a mid shock.

“What are you talking about?” Aria yelled at him.

“I'm not lying,” Adam counter attack. Then, he stood up and walked to Kyle with a sheet of paper.

Kye took it and perused it. It contained the details of Noah's employment status. Indeed, he was a waiter at Olive and Vine.

After Adam left Aria the other night, he made his findings quickly. He was so happy to find out he used to work at Olive and Vine. That only perfected his plan.

“Used to but not anymore,” Noah argued.

“Yes, because you were fired for insubordination. You were also sent out of your home. So, currently, you are homeless,” Adam attacked him.

“I can't believe this! So, Aria is marrying a homeless and jobless man?” Cynthia, Adam's mum chuckled.

“So yes maybe he got you a wine,” Adam continued. “But it's either he stole it or it's fake!” He laughed, walked to Kyle and picked up the wine. “Domaine de la Romanée-Conti? You must be kidding me! This is definitely fake!”

He threw it on the floor, allowing it to smash into pieces.

Noah's eyes widened with shock. “But that was the real Domaine de la Romanée-Conti!”
