"Hello everyone, my name is Lucien Hestia," a calm, cold voice cut through the silence.
'No frigging way...' Lux felt a chill run down his spine because that voice was awfully familiar—so familiar because he had just heard it last night. 'No way that's Twilight.' Lux's brain went into a spiral, calculating the odds that it was really Twilight. 'I mean, we met last night. He couldn't have handled everything for the transfer in a single night, right? Unless... nah... no way bro is from that Hestia family.' Lux's brain was running on overdrive. Apparently, there was a Hestia family popular globally as a powerhouse in the business world, and it was pretty much common knowledge because immediately after his introduction, a wave of audible whispers flooded the classroom. "Hestia? Like, the Hestia?" "Oh my gosh, could he possibly be from that Hestia family?" "What in the world? First a Raizen, then a Sungate, now a Hestia? Are we having a congress of big shots in our school?" "Mr. Hestia, if you don't mind, there is an empty seat right there on the third row," Ms. Fiona said, gesturing to the seat right behind Lux. Lucien walked to the seat, slowing down slightly upon getting to Lux's desk. "Training has started... rookie." 'Those words... it's him.' Lux's face turned pale as the confirmation of his fear came faster than expected. Lux took a side glance toward where Davon sat and noticed him staring at him and Twilight with a pondering expression plastered across his face. 'Does he know anything? Perhaps word from Lumiere?' Lux was deep in thought. Davon's gaze was unsettling, and Lux was definitely not comfortable with it. After Twilight sat down, Ms. Fiona left, and not long after, the History teacher, Mr. Rolan, walked in. The class was boring, as all the students seemed uninterested in the mistakes and decisions of their predecessors. The class lasted two periods, and after that, they had their lunch break. The buzz of the school alarm was like the song of an angel as it signaled the lunch break. Fedora rushed straight to Lux as soon as Mr. Rolan walked out of the classroom. "You owe me lunch," she said, a mischievous smile hanging across her lips. "Umm... sure," Lux said, forcing out a slightly nervous smile as he stood up and walked out of the classroom with Fedora, completely ignoring Twilight—or so he wanted to do. "May I join you two?" Twilight's voice came from behind them, sending a chill down Lux's spine. "Huh?" Fedora turned around, a bit surprised by the proposal. She hesitated for a short while before nodding slightly with a bright smile. "Sure, you can join us." Upon hearing her reply, Twilight's smile widened, a hint of mischief flashing across his eyes. Meanwhile, Lux felt like his whole world was turning upside down. The trio walked down toward the cafeteria, with Fedora talking about how boring the class was, while Twilight chipped in with short remarks here and there. Lux, on the other hand, was completely silent, his head currently calculating the best way to avoid his predicament. "Lux! Come back to reality!" The sound of Fedora yelling his name brought him back to reality. "Umm... we've reached the cafeteria," Lux said absentmindedly. "Exactly," Fedora responded, dragging him toward a free table. The trio sat down and went through the menu. The cafeteria was filled with murmurs and sounds of discussion from different students, with a couple of glances being thrown toward the trio's direction. Lux still hadn't gotten used to the glances being cast toward him. He shifted in his seat, wondering how Fedora and Twilight were able to act like no one was looking. "Sooo... Lucien, I've heard a lot about the Hestia family, but I'm wondering, what brings you to our city? I mean, the Hestias' influence is significantly weaker here," Fedora asked, a curious expression on her face. Lux sat up, obviously interested in the response. "Actually, I was able to come here because I don't really hold any solid positions in the family, so I have quite a lot of freedom. As for why I'm here, it's nothing serious. I just decided to explore the world." "I see... I wish I could explore the world as well. Too bad I have too many roles to fill as the Raizen heiress," Fedora said, a downcast expression on her face. "It's not that bad, right? I mean... you get to attend events, you have cash to get whatever you want, and stuff," Lux said, a sorry attempt at soothing Fedora. The trio continued talking when suddenly the cafeteria erupted into a cacophony of voices, drawing their attention toward the cafeteria door. Two figures stood there, one excessively tall and muscular, the other tall but lean. Lux's facial expression darkened. He recognized that physique immediately. Danzai had a wicked grin plastered across his face as he and Aurmir walked straight toward Lux, Fedora, and Twilight. "No way..." "Yahweh." "What are you doing here?" "I'm a new student. Heard that there's free food." "I heard that there is an MMA club in your school, with hot-blooded warriors." Lux's entire worldview was crumbling. "So... Dan—" "It's Lynx. Lynx Crusoe." "I see... so, Lynx, you came because of food, huh? And..." Lux said, his gaze moving from Danzai to Aurmir. "Badheli Grimwort," Aurmir said calmly. "Oh! Perfect. Badheli, you're here for MMA? And you expect me to believe that?" Lux was at the verge of exploding. He thought that his life was finally getting a semblance of normalcy, and then Twilight spawned in his school. While that didn't seem like much of a problem, the appearance of Danzai and Aurmir was another thing altogether. "May we partake in your noble gathering, oh fair lady?" Aurmir said, his gaze fixed on Fedora. Lux turned toward Fedora, only to see her gaze fixed on Danzai. He turned and saw Danzai looking at her as well. "You've not changed a bit," Fedora said, a slight smile hanging across her lips. "Neither have you," Danzai said, his usually comedic demeanor nowhere to be found. Lux and Aurmir had dumbfounded expressions on their faces, wondering if this was actually Danzai having that dreamy, lost expression on his face. "Soo..." "This school does have free food, right?" Fedora was in the midst of breaking the awkward silence when Danzai interrupted her, a blank expression on his face. Fedora's eyes twitched. Twilight exhaled in disappointment. Lux's mouth hung agape. Aurmir facepalmed. "No emotional tact," Twilight said in a blunt tone. "They only give food to the emotional?" Danzai asked, moving his gaze from Fedora to Twilight. "You... are unbelievable," Fedora said, exhaling in exasperation. "Yes. They have free food, right over there," Lux said in a slightly annoyed tone, pointing toward where students ordered food. "Oh! Sure, thanks," Danzai said, leaving faster than he came. "So... I'm guessing you two know each other?" Lux asked Fedora, his eyebrows slightly raised. "Yup. Childhood friends." "The reunion of childhood sweethearts is such a sacred and honorable event. To think that Lynx would disregard it as such. As expected of one who has no pride in his bones," Aurmir said, a slight hint of disgust flashing across his eyes. "We weren't sweethearts or anything. Our parents knew each other, so we got to hang out when they were having meetings and all," Fedora said with a slight exhale. "What about you? You seem to know him as well," Fedora said, looking at Lux. Completely ignoring Aurmir, Twilight opened a book and began reading. "I bumped into him during the weekend. He was hungry, and I helped him with some cash," Lux lied through his teeth, his expression neutral as though there was nothing abnormal with what he had said. "Considering who we're talking about, I guess it is possible," Fedora said. "So... tell me, was he always like that?" "Who? Lynx? He has always loved food. Quite the optimistic, fun guy. He had a way of putting a smile on people's faces, and most times... he was either dense or dumb, with half his vocabulary revolving around food." "Why am I not surprised?" Lux said, facepalming. Lux and Fedora kept chatting while Twilight and Aurmir did their own thing until someone decided to break the status quo. "If it isn't the one and only Lux Orcus." A voice dripping with sarcasm cut through the entire cafeteria. The squad at the table turned their heads sharply to see Davon, who had just walked into the cafeteria, calmly making his way toward them. The cafeteria growing more quiet with each step he took. "So... how was your night party at the docks last night? Hope you had fun."Latest Chapter

Wind wrapped around Danzai's legs, yanking both of them clean off the ground."Hold on," he said. Too late for that. They shot through the night, the city below blurring into a smear of concrete and light. The wind screamed so loudly Lux couldn't hear his own thoughts. He gripped Beltaro's hilt until his knuckles turned white, holding onto the only solid thing in a world spinning out of control. Danzai didn't say a word the whole way. No jokes. No chatter about food. Just a locked jaw and a cold, dead stare fixed straight ahead, like he’d completely checked out and left a ghost in charge.___Thirty minutes later, the Sungate estate came into view. A massive stone manor, sprawling grounds, and hedges trimmed way too perfectly for anyone who actually worked for a living. Soft yellow lanterns lined paths cut through grass that had probably never seen a single weed.Danzai didn't even slow down. They slammed straight into the central courtyard. The impact split the stone beneath them in

"Which hospital," Danzai said, voice flat, all traces of his earlier lightness gone entirely. "Where is she.""Greenwich Medical Center," the voice on the other end answered. "She's stable for now, but—"Danzai hung up before the sentence finished."Give me the wheel," he said, already reaching across Lux toward the driver's seat."What? Danzai, what's—""The wheel. Now."Lux had never heard that particular tone from him before — no humor, no lightness, nothing but cold, controlled urgency. He pulled over just long enough to switch seats, and the moment Danzai's hands hit the wheel, the car lurched forward with a speed that had absolutely no business existing on city streets."Danzai, slow down—""No."___They tore through red lights, cut across three lanes without signaling, and Lux gripped the door handle hard enough to lose feeling in his fingers, watching a man who moments ago had been discussing soufflé commitment issues now drive like s

The envelope contained a single embossed card, elegant cursive script curling across cream-colored paper. You are cordially invited to the Ashworth Charity Gala. Formal attire. Masks required. A night of connection among the city's finest."Fancy," Danzai said, reading over Lux's shoulder, already reaching for a stray pastry someone had left on the reception desk."It's tonight," Lux said, checking the date. "As in, tonight tonight.""Guess you're going, then. Company representative and all.""We're going," Lux corrected. "You're my assistant."Danzai froze mid-bite. "I'm sorry, my what?""Secretary. Assistant. Whatever sounds professional." Lux was already scrolling through his phone for formal wear options among the pictures of clothes Twililight picked out for him. "I'm not walking into a room full of business elites alone.""I don't know the first thing about being a secretary.""You know how to lie convincingly and improvise under pressure. That's ninety percent of the job."Danz

"So," Fedora said, lingering near Danzai while the others finished their own registration checks, voice softer than her usual bright energy. "Lynx Crusoe. That's a name I haven't heard in a while... school aside that is.""Surprised you remember it at all," Danzai said, tone lighter than usual, though something behind his eyes shifted slightly."You used to come by the Raizen estate sometimes, when we were kids. Before you disappeared into whatever this is." She gestured vaguely at his mask, his squad, the whole strange world surrounding them. "You used to laugh a lot more back then.""I still laugh plenty.""Differently, though." Fedora studied him for a moment, something genuine and unguarded in her expression. "I'm glad you're okay. Whatever happened to make you leave — I hope it was worth it."Danzai was quiet for a beat longer than usual, the easy humor briefly absent. "...Yeah," he said finally. "Most days, it is."Before either could say more, the regi

The Central Government Tower rose high above the surrounding skyline, all sharp glass angles and quiet, unassuming authority, nothing about its exterior hinting at anything beyond ordinary bureaucracy. Pedestrians walked past without a second glance, entirely unaware of what actually operated beneath the building's polished floors."Government's involved in the totem world?" Lux asked as they approached the main entrance, the words only now fully settling into something he had to reckon with. "Like, actually involved? Not just aware it exists?""Extensively," Twilight said, not slowing his pace. "Enrollment for the tournament runs through them. It's how they track rogue wielders — those unaffiliated with any faction.""And if they find one?""Recruit or restrain, depending on cooperation," Twilight said simply. "Unaffiliated power is unpredictable power. Governments tend to prefer neither, historically speaking. A wielder with no oversight and no accountability

Lux made it down to the ground floor lobby with Aurmir and Danzai flanking him, Twilight already a step ahead, expression unreadable as always. Whatever was happening at the gates, it clearly hadn't fazed him — though given the last month, Lux supposed his baseline for "concerning" had shifted considerably. Interstellar terrorists tended to recalibrate a person's sense of urgency."Any guesses?" Lux asked, jogging slightly to keep pace."Could be anything," Aurmir said, unbothered. "Disgruntled client. Rival guild scout. Someone selling questionable insurance.""Comforting range of possibilities."Through the glass entrance, Lux spotted the source of the commotion immediately — a middle-aged man in an expensive but slightly rumpled suit, red-faced, gesturing wildly at two increasingly uncomfortable security guards, a leather briefcase clutched under one arm like it contained something far more important than paperwork."I don't care what schedule you people think
