Nolan nodded slowly as he listened to Manager Lee speak.

“Shall we go up now, or would you like to look around the ground floor a little more?” Manager Lee asked, turning to him.

Nolan shook his head. “Oh no, I’ll do that later. There’s still time for all that. Right now, I want to see my apartment.”

“Alright then,” Manager Lee said. “Let’s go upstairs.”

He pressed the button on the elevator and when the doors slid open, he politely stepped aside and waited for Nolan to enter first. Nolan stepped in, and Manager Lee joined him.

Just like he said earlier, the elevator was and in a matter of seconds, they had already reached the top floor.

The doors opened smoothly, and they stepped out into a hallway with bright lights and white marble tiles.

Manager Lee walked faster and pointed to a wide gold-colored door. “This is your apartment, young master,” he said.

Nolan reached into his pocket and brought out the card Ray had given him earlier. It was gold too, matching the color of the doo

Nolan had found his real family, the powerful Lancaster family. Rich, popular, and known all over the country and that made her scared. She was the one who raised him and she was there when his mother died. She was there when no one else cared. She had given him food, clothes, and love. She had stayed up many nights to take care of him when he was sick. She made sure he went to school, even when things were tough. Everything Nolan was today, she believed, was because of her sacrifices. So when that old man came and said Nolan was his grandson, she felt like her heart broke. She had always known there was something different about Nolan. And even though the old man came with proof and photos, she still didn’t like it.She was scared. She was scared that if Nolan accepted that family, he would leave her and he would forget everything she did for him.He would choose a new life, full of power, money, and luxury, and leave her behind like she never mattered and she didn’t want that. So

Cynthia laughed loudly again and shook her head like she couldn’t believe what Nolan just said. She looked at him like he was a child saying something silly and stupid. “I don’t think you understand what’s really going on here,” she said, still smiling in a mocking way. “Because if you did, you wouldn’t be standing there shouting that you don’t need anyone’s help when clearly, you do. You’re just opening your mouth and talking nonsense.”Her mother nodded in agreement. She looked at Nolan, shaking her head, “Yes, Nolan, you need to calm down and think before you talk. You also need to be careful with the way you speak to the person that might help you pay for your uncle’s surgery. Don’t act like a fool.”She folded her arms and continued, “If Cynthia walks out of here without helping, your uncle might not get the surgery. Do you want that? Do you want him to die because of pride? I really don’t understand why you’re behaving like this.”Nolan scoffed loudly and looked at all of them.

Cynthia, you don’t have to say all of that,” the first aunt said, shaking her head. “Don’t you think you’re being too harsh? I think you need to calm down a little?”Cynthia turned sharply toward her and narrowed her eyes.“Too harsh?” she repeated loudly. “Did you really just say I’m being too harsh? Wow. Have you forgotten what I went through? Or weren’t you standing right there when your sister’s husband insulted me in front of everybody?”Cynthia looked around at their faces and scoffed. “So now you all want me to pretend like it didn’t happen? You think I’ll just smile, open my bank app, and give away my money like it’s nothing? Just like that?”She stepped back and placed both hands on her waist.“Do you know how hard I worked to make my money? Do you know the sleepless nights I had? The jobs I had to do? And now someone from nowhere is begging me to just give it away? For what?”She looked at Jayla on the floor and laughed dryly.“If it’s that easy to make money, then you try

Cynthia walked into the hospital slowly, looking all around with a frown on her face. She was clearly not happy to be there. Her eyes moved from one person to another in the waiting area like she was trying to avoid breathing in the same air. She looked uncomfortable, almost like she didn’t want to touch anything or even sit down. She spotted her mother standing with a group of other women, her aunties and she sighed loudly, dragging her feet as she walked toward them.“Mum,” she said in a loud, tired voice. “Why did you even call me here? I was in the middle of sleeping. Do you know how tired I am? I partied all night and my head is pounding. You could have just told me over the phone. Why drag me all the way here for this?”Her mum turned to her and gave her a warning glare. She leaned closer to her and spoke in a low voice.“Can you read the room for once? Just stop talking. Jayla’s dad is very sick. He’s in a serious condition. So if you don’t want to help, at least keep quiet a

Nolan’s aunt slowly walked out of the doctor’s office with a face that looked pale. Her eyes were red and full of tears. She looked like someone who had just heard the worst news in the world. As soon as Jayla saw her mother, she quickly ran up to her.“Mum! What’s wrong?” she cried. “What did the doctor say? Please talk to me. What’s going on with dad?”But before her mother could even speak, Jayla’s two aunties, Nolan’s aunt’s sisters walked over too. Jayla had called them earlier on the phone to tell them something was wrong with her dad, so they had rushed over to the hospital. They all stood together in the hallway, staring at Nolan’s aunt as she stood there shaking.“Mum, please talk,” Jayla begged again, her eyes wide and full of fear. “What did the doctor say?”Nolan’s aunt took a deep breath, but tears still fell down her cheeks. She opened her mouth slowly, then said in a weak voice, “Your father has a very bad sickness. A cancerous tumor, in his brain.”Jayla gasped and

As soon as Jayla finished speaking with Nolan on the phone, she quickly called her mom, Nolan’s aunt. Her voice was shaky as she told her what happened and she couldn’t even speak without crying.“Mum, please come to the hospital. Something is wrong with Dad and I don’t know what’s happening. The doctors said they need you or Nolan to speak with them. Please come quickly.”Nolan’s aunt didn’t waste any time. She was at work when she got the call, but she immediately packed up her things and rushed out. Her hands were shaking as she got into a taxi. Her husband, the man who had always stood by her was in the hospital, and she didn’t even know why.She finally arrived at the hospital and saw Jayla waiting near the emergency section. Jayla ran to her with tears streaming down her cheeks.“Mom!” she cried, wrapping her arms around her tightly. “They’re not even letting me see Dad again. I don’t know what’s wrong. I asked so many questions but they just said I should call you or Nolan.
