Reminiscence and rescue

I am stuck. The robbers have completely surrounded us. We are the hostages. The bank had just opened.

Not many people are present. I look around. I think including the bank staff about 20 people are here.

The robbers have weapons. And judging from their looks, they are trained. They are well coordinated and they work efficiently.

Their weapons are also modern. Only a well-off mafia or some kind of shady organization can pull this kind of stunt.

Again, they could be from the military. Excommunicated or kicked out, they seem to be seething with hunger.

Hunger for money. After being kicked out, I went all around the world. Getting to know people and gaining experience.

From the look in their eyes, they are starved. They are hungry for money and women.

They are checking out the female employees. Any moment now, they might drag one of them to a different to have a little fun.

I can hear the police from the outside. But they are not interested in the police.

Working like it was nothing, they collected everything. From money to valuables, nothing is left behind.

Like a cloud of locusts, they cleared the bank.

I close my eyes and fall into deep thoughts. I am thinking. Thinking about the days I have passed, the days of my exile.

Calling it exile would be terrible. I am who I am today because of that exile. If not, I would still be working my rear off to make ends meet.

To be exact, it was five years ago. I was only 20. Paying off the huge debt my family had made.

I graduated from high school but never went to college. I was so busy working that I even stopped looking at the people around me.

And when I came to, I found myself in a mess. One day, I reached home but it was empty. Only a single piece of paper left.

I flip the paper and see one word written.

‘Bye.’ That was what was written in it. And I understood. My parents have run off. They have left me behind.

Now that was what I was thinking. But then came the loan sharks. Same as usual.

They banged the door open.

“Come with us.” They said.

I had no choice but to go. I was in a situation that could be said something similar to a manga.

But reality isn’t so nice. They took me to their boss.

The big boss of the mafia. The underworld don, whose name strikes fear even in the most fearless people.

I was standing in front of him. But I wasn’t intimidated or scared.

He was looking at me with pity. I guess, I am in a pitiful state.

“Your parents have certainly done something unreasonable to you. So I am taking pity on you.”

“Thank you.” I say.

I don’t have any money. I was fired from my job just yesterday and now I am here.

“But I have a condition. You have to marry my daughter.”

And that’s where my life derailed. My life would have been pretty normal but I was dragged into the world of mafia.

From the looks, I cannot refuse.

“How about we meet first?” I try to delay it.

If his daughter rejects me then I would be free.

“Ok.” He said and picked up the receiver.

“Come in.” He said and someone entered.

She is beautiful. Just that one word came to my mind. I had lost all words upon seeing her.

Long eyelashes, black hair, white complexion, a slender body but having curves where it counts and slightly taller than average. That was his daughter.

The name? I would say it later. She entered the room and everything stopped.

I stared at her like time had stopped but soon came to my senses.

She is too beautiful. Like an idol, no a goddess. I am not worthy of her.

“I have chosen this man.” He said to her.

“……” She didn’t say and looked at me once.

“Are you okay with him?” He asked again.

“Yes.” She said yes.

What? She betrayed me. I thought she would be like, “Who is this pest? You want me to marry him!”

But she just said yes. I think she has something else in her mind.

Because the look in her eyes is as cold as ice. I was shivering just from looking at those eyes.

And we got married on the spot.

She is the same age as me. But we are different. I am a high school graduate who didn’t go to college. Also I graduated from a public high school.

On the other hand, she graduated from a prestigious private school and went to the best public university.

And she has already graduated. I guess she is one of those talented people who are just too far away from the mediocre ones.

We didn’t really talk and I was being used as a slave.

By her family, from day to night, I was forced to work.

And her mother started sabotaging me. They would often mess with me.

My wife who is extremely cold won’t even sleep in the same room as me.

So I had no choice but live outside. My mother in law, she was a typical mother in law you can find in those soap operas.

But instead she was torturing her son in law.

I lived at their house and worked like a slave. No, I wasn’t even treated as a human being. Like a dog, they made me work.

Just remembering those days give me the shivers.

Father who was mostly responsible for our marriage felt sorry for me. He gave me an idea.

He told me to act. Doing so would ensure my freedom.

They would kick me out and I would be free. And I started doing just that.

And after a couple months, they kicked me out. My mother in-law kicked me out.

My wife even took my sign in the divorce paper as I was leaving.

I then decided to see the world. I was given some money by father and decided to go on a long journey.

I was thinking of all these when someone shook me.

“Don’t sleep.” The person sitting next to me is telling me that.

I rub my eyes and yawn. I stretching my body.

The robbers are still here. They are negotiating with the police.

“How long is this farce gonna keep going?” I ask unamused.

I am tired of this situation.

“You really lack the sense of danger.” She said.

“Anyway, I hope someone would pop out so I can finally leave.”

I am not scared but I am getting late. So I have to leave soon.

Then suddenly someone broke in.

Like a hero in a movie, they broke in.

The robbers started firing at them. They took cover behind a pillar and the magazine was emptied.

When they were reloading that person dashed to the robbers and knocked them out one after another.

It really is a rescue. Thank you. I was almost late.

But when I look at them clearly, I felt a shock.

Because the person who did this is an acquaintance.

What can I say? It has been weird since coming back here.

But they haven’t noticed me yet. So I try to slop away.

Hopefully, they won’t catch on.
