The air on the basement level of the Edward Enterprises building was heavy, smelling of old paper and stale air conditioning. This was where the company kept its broken printers, forgotten files, and old furniture. There were no glass windows or views of the city skyline here... just rows of flickering fluorescent lights and gray cubicles.

George Edward sat at a small metal desk in the furthest corner of the room. A single cardboard box containing his few personal belongings sat on the floor beside his feet. He had spent his entire life commanding people from the top floor, but now he was buried underground.

Every few minutes, low-level clerks and mailroom staff would walk past his cubicle. They walked slowly, whispering to one another and pointing at the former CEO. George kept his head down, his face burning with a deep shame. The news of his demotion had spread to every corner of the company, and he had become a laughingstock overnight.

The sound of sharp, rhythmic footsteps echoed against the linoleum floor.

George looked up, his posture stiffening as Elias stopped right outside his cubicle. The young lawyer looked as clean and professional as always, holding a thick stack of papers in his arms.

"Good morning, Mr. Edward," Elias said, his voice completely smooth and empty of any emotion. "I trust you find your new workspace acceptable."

George clenched his jaw, his hands tightening into fists under the desk. "Get to the point, Elias. Why are you down here?"

Elias stepped forward and dropped the heavy stack of papers directly onto George's desk. The force of the impact kicked up a small cloud of dust.

"These are the physical shipping manifests from the years 2018 through 2021," Elias explained, tapping the top folder. "The Chairman requires a complete, manual audit of every single ledger entry. You will cross-reference these documents with the digital bank statements to identify any inconsistencies."

George stared at the mountain of paperwork. It was a tedious, mind-numbing task that would normally be assigned to a summer intern. It was clear harassment, a deliberate attempt to break his pride.

"This will take weeks," George growled, his voice trembling with suppressed rage. "I am a consultant, not a data entry clerk. I created this infrastructure. I shouldn't be spending my time doing manual labor."

"The Chairman is not interested in your past achievements, Mr. Edward," Elias replied coldly. "He is interested in your accuracy. If this task is not completed by the end of the week, it will be viewed as a breach of your advisory contract. And as you know, a breach of contract allows Apex Horizon Group to immediately terminate your employment and call in the remaining debt."

George looked at Elias, realizing he had no choice. He had no leverage, no money, and no allies left. He slowly reached out, pulled the first heavy folder toward him, and flipped it open.

"Good," Elias said, checking his tablet. "I will return on Monday to collect your initial progress report. Have a productive day."

As Elias walked away, George felt a dangerous mixture of anger and desperation boiling inside his chest. He couldn't stay in this basement. He couldn't let Arthur treat him like an insect. He needed a way out, a way to fight back, even if it meant taking a massive risk.

He pulled out his personal phone, the one device Arthur’s legal team hadn't seized yet and scrolled through his contacts until he found a hidden number. It belonged to a powerful, ruthless businessman in the neighboring district who had been trying to buy out Edward Enterprises for years.

George took a deep breath, dialed the number, and pressed the phone to his ear.

"Marcus," George whispered, keeping his voice as low as possible as he looked around to make sure no clerks were listening. "It's George. I need a meeting. I have information on Apex Horizon Group's domestic expansion strategy, and I am willing to sell."

Meanwhile, on the top floor, Arthur stood in his new office. The space had been completely cleared of George's old decorations. It was now clean, modern, and minimalist.

He stood by the window, watching the rain begin to fall against the glass. The first phase of his plan was complete. Thaddeus was ruined, and George was humiliated. But Arthur knew that a cornered animal was always the most dangerous.

"Chairman," Elias said, walking into the office and closing the door softly. "George Edward has just made a phone call to Marcus Vanguard. Our network monitoring software intercepted the signal."

A cold, slow smile spread across Arthur's face. He didn't look surprised. In fact, he looked like he had been expecting this exact move all along.

"Let him meet with Vanguard," Arthur said softly, his eyes reflecting the dark gray storm clouds outside. "Let George think he is building a trap for me. He doesn't realize that I am the one who built the maze."

  • The Squeeze

George Edward slowly sat back down in his leather chair. The anger was completely gone from his face, replaced by a dull, hollow look. He looked at the empty space where Thaddeus had stood just moments ago. In a matter of minutes, his top executive had been dragged out in disgrace, and his board of directors sat in terrified silence.Arthur did not take a seat. He walked slowly to the huge windows overlooking the city, keeping his back to the room. The silence stretched until the tension felt like a physical weight."You always cared about how things looked, George," Arthur said, his voice quiet but perfectly clear. "You cared about the family name. You cared about the corporate logo on the front of this building. You cared so much that you were willing to lock an innocent man away just to keep your stock price steady."George cleared his throat, trying to find a fraction of his old strength. "Arthur, business requires difficult choices. The company was on the line. If the public foun

The atmosphere inside the conference room grew so cold that some of the board members looked as though they were struggling to breathe. Arthur remained perfectly still, his hands resting lightly on the polished glass surface of the table. He didn't need to raise his voice or slam his fists to dominate the space; his mere presence, steady and unyielding, was enough to make the air feel suffocatingly heavy.Thaddeus Cruz wiped a layer of cold sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. His fingers were trembling so violently that he had to drop them beneath the table to hide his agitation from the rest of the board. Five years ago, he had prided himself on creating the perfect digital trap. He had felt completely untouchable when the handcuffs were slapped onto Arthur’s wrists. Now, looking into Arthur’s dark, calm eyes, Thaddeus felt like an animal caught in the crosshairs of a hunter."This is an outrage!" Thaddeus stammered, his voice pitching higher than usual as he tried to

His tie was loosened, his expensive white shirt was wrinkled, and the ash from multiple cigars littered his pristine mahogany desk. Across from him, Thaddeus Cruz was aggressively pacing the floor, his phone glued to his ear as he tried, and failed, to reach any of their historical banking partners. Every call went straight to voicemail, or worse, was answered by cold, tight-lipped secretaries stating that their directors were "unavailable for the foreseeable future."The door to the office burst open, and Seraphina walked in. She hadn't slept either. Her eyes were rimmed with red, and she had traded her elegant gala gown for a sharp, dark business
