The executive floor was dead silent by two in the afternoon. The bustling assistants, the eager managers, and the low hum of daily commerce had completely vanished from the hallway outside the main office. News traveled fast in a corporate building, and by lunchtime, every employee knew that George Edward had been stripped of his title.

Seraphina stood inside her father’s former office, watching him pack his things. The room was large, featuring expensive wood paneling, a private bar, and a panoramic view of the downtown skyline. For decades, this office had been the symbol of the Edward family's power. Now, it just felt empty.

George was tossing old folders, desk ornaments, and personal photographs into a plain cardboard box. His hands shook, his movements hurried and erratic. The proud, untouchable CEO was gone. In his place was a broken old man who looked like he had aged ten years in a single morning.

"Father, stop for a second," Seraphina said, her voice strained as she closed the heavy office door behind her. "We need to think. We need to hire a defense team. There must be a legal loophole or a banking associate who can help us fight this restructuring."

George let out a bitter, hollow laugh, not even looking up from his box. "A defense team? With what, Seraphina? Didn't you hear him? Every single personal asset we own is tied to the corporate collateral. My house, our savings, the cars—Arthur holds the strings to all of it. If I spend a single dollar trying to sue him, he will call in the remaining debt and freeze our lives."

He slammed a heavy crystal paperweight into the box, the loud thud echoing off the walls.

"I called Marcus from the regional treasury," George muttered, his voice dropping to a desperate whisper. "I called the director of the maritime board. Men I have shared expensive dinners with for fifteen years. Do you know what they did? They hung up on me. The moment they heard the name Apex Horizon Group, they treated me like I had the plague. Arthur has completely blocked us from the financial community."

Seraphina leaned against the mahogany desk, her chest aching with a deep, crushing weight. "He isn't going to stop with the office, is he?"

"No," George said, finally looking up. His eyes were bloodshot, filled with a volatile mix of fear and anger. "He wants to see me crawl. He expects me to sit in that basement cubicle and beg his lawyer for permission to breathe. He’s torturing us, Seraphina. And the worst part is, he’s doing it completely within the law."

A soft, rhythmic knock on the glass door interrupted them.

Seraphina turned quickly, her heart skipping a beat, half-expecting to see Arthur standing there. Instead, it was Elias. The lawyer stood perfectly straight, holding a sleek tablet in one hand and a set of keys in the other. His expression was completely blank, professional, and detached.

"Mr. Edward," Elias said smoothly, stepping into the room. "The noon deadline has passed. The new administrative staff requires access to this office to prepare it for the incoming management team. Your new workspace on the lower level is ready."

George’s face turned an angry shade of purple. He gripped the edges of the cardboard box so hard his knuckles turned white. "I spent thirty years building this brand, young man. You tell your boss that he might own my shares, but he cannot break my spirit."

"I don't have a message for the Chairman, Mr. Edward," Elias replied calmly, entirely unfazed by the outburst. "I only have instructions. If you do not vacate this room within the next five minutes, security will remove these items for you and place them on the curb outside."

George swallowed hard, his bravado vanishing instantly. He picked up the heavy cardboard box, his shoulders slumping as he walked past Elias without another word. The door clicked shut behind him, leaving Seraphina alone in the massive room with the lawyer.

Seraphina looked at Elias, her hands trembling. "Where is he?"

"The Chairman is currently attending a regional logistics briefing," Elias said, adjusting the settings on his tablet.

"I need to see him, Elias. Please," she begged, taking a step forward. "Just five minutes. He won't answer my calls, and he won't look at me. I know he hates me. I know he has every right to be furious with my family. But I need to talk to him. Not about the business, or the shares, or the money. Just… about us."

Elias looked up from his screen, his gaze assessing her with a cold, analytical precision. For a moment, she thought she saw a flicker of pity in the lawyer’s eyes, but it disappeared just as fast as it had arrived.

"Mrs. York.... or rather, Ms. Edward, since the legal separation papers were prepared during his second year of absence," Elias said smoothly, his voice flat. "The Chairman’s schedule is fully booked for the next three months. He has no desire to revisit private matters."

"He's still my husband!" Seraphina cried out, tears finally spilling over her cheeks. "The divorce was never finalized! I refused to sign the paperwork when the prison lawyers brought it to me!"

"That was a mistake on your part, then," a deep, chilling voice spoke from the doorway.

Seraphina spun around. Arthur stood there, his tall frame completely filling the entrance. He had discarded his suit jacket, rolling the sleeves of his white shirt up to his forearms, revealing the lean, hard muscle he had built during his years of hard labor. He looked imposing, powerful, and entirely detached from the woman standing before him.

Elias bowed slightly, stepping out of the room and closing the door behind him, leaving the two of them in total isolation.

"Arthur," Seraphina whispered, taking a hesitant step toward him. She reached out, her fingers trembling as she tried to touch his arm. "Arthur, please. Look at me."

Arthur didn't move away, but his expression remained as cold as stone. He looked down at her hand as if it were a strange object. "What do you want, Seraphina?"

"I want to apologize," she sobbed, dropping her hand back to her side. "I was a coward. My father told me that if I spoke up, the company would go under and we would lose everything. He told me the evidence against you was solid, and that even if I testified, it wouldn't change the outcome. I was terrified, Arthur. I was young, and I let him control me. But I never stopped thinking about you. Every single night, I regretted not speaking up for you."

Arthur walked past her, stepping toward the large windows. He looked out at the city below, his back straight.

"Your silence cost me five years, Seraphina," Arthur said, his voice entirely level, devoid of any anger or passion. "Five years of waking up to the sound of steel bars. Five years of eating stale bread and breaking rocks in the yard while you attended charity galas and drank expensive wine. You didn't just stay silent to protect the company. You stayed silent to protect your lifestyle."

"That’s not true!" she gasped, her heart breaking at the absolute indifference in his tone. "I loved you! I still love you!"

Arthur turned around to face her. A faint, mocking smile touched the corners of his lips.

"If you loved me, you would have stood by the truth," Arthur said softly. "But you chose the Edward name. Now, you get to watch what happens to that name."

  • The Squeeze

George Edward slowly sat back down in his leather chair. The anger was completely gone from his face, replaced by a dull, hollow look. He looked at the empty space where Thaddeus had stood just moments ago. In a matter of minutes, his top executive had been dragged out in disgrace, and his board of directors sat in terrified silence.Arthur did not take a seat. He walked slowly to the huge windows overlooking the city, keeping his back to the room. The silence stretched until the tension felt like a physical weight."You always cared about how things looked, George," Arthur said, his voice quiet but perfectly clear. "You cared about the family name. You cared about the corporate logo on the front of this building. You cared so much that you were willing to lock an innocent man away just to keep your stock price steady."George cleared his throat, trying to find a fraction of his old strength. "Arthur, business requires difficult choices. The company was on the line. If the public foun

The atmosphere inside the conference room grew so cold that some of the board members looked as though they were struggling to breathe. Arthur remained perfectly still, his hands resting lightly on the polished glass surface of the table. He didn't need to raise his voice or slam his fists to dominate the space; his mere presence, steady and unyielding, was enough to make the air feel suffocatingly heavy.Thaddeus Cruz wiped a layer of cold sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. His fingers were trembling so violently that he had to drop them beneath the table to hide his agitation from the rest of the board. Five years ago, he had prided himself on creating the perfect digital trap. He had felt completely untouchable when the handcuffs were slapped onto Arthur’s wrists. Now, looking into Arthur’s dark, calm eyes, Thaddeus felt like an animal caught in the crosshairs of a hunter."This is an outrage!" Thaddeus stammered, his voice pitching higher than usual as he tried to

  • The Boardroom Ghost

Across from him, Thaddeus Cruz was aggressively pacing the floor, his phone glued to his ear as he tried, and failed, to reach any of their historical banking partners. Every call went straight to voicemail, or worse, was answered by cold, tight-lipped secretaries stating that their directors were "unavailable for the foreseeable future."The door to the office burst open, and Seraphina walked in. She hadn't slept either. Her eyes were rimmed with red, and she had traded her elegant gala gown for a sharp, dark business
