Shen Hao’s heart was beating hard.
Uncle Gu looked at him with those sharp dark eyes.
“I like your fire, kid. But that weak body of yours can’t hold my teachings. If I force my power into you now, you will explode from the inside.”
Shen Hao clenched his fists. “Then fix it. Whatever it takes.”
Uncle Gu’s mouth curled into a small smile. “The only way is to reforge your whole body. The pain will be a hundred times worse than those kicks. If you lose yourself in the pain, you die. Even I can’t pull you back. This is a real gamble. You still want it?”
Shen Hao thought of Young Master Zhao’s laughing face. He thought of lying on the dirty ground while people called him trash. He thought of every night he spent alone in the broken shack.
He had nothing left to lose.
“I will do it,” he said. His voice was steady. “If I live, I will become the strongest person this world has ever seen.”
Uncle Gu nodded once. “Good enough for a start. Follow me.”
They left the shack and the town behind. Uncle Gu led him high into the mountains where the spiritual energy felt thick and heavy in the air. When they reached a quiet clearing, Uncle Gu stopped.
“Take off your shirt.”
Shen Hao obeyed. Uncle Gu raised one hand. Thick purple energy gathered and slowly formed into a small glowing pill.
“This is the Reforging Pill. It will tear your body apart and build it again. Keep your mind clear. Don’t let the pain swallow you.”
He pressed a finger to Shen Hao’s forehead. A cool feeling sank into the boy’s mind.
“I gave your spirit a little extra strength. That’s all the help I can give. The rest is on you.”
Shen Hao sat down cross-legged. He took the purple pill and swallowed it without hesitation.
At first it felt warm. Then the blocked meridians in his body suddenly opened. Dirty black energy exploded out of him in a cloud. For the first time in his life, real Qi rushed into his dantian.
He had stepped into the first layer of Gathering Qi.
A small smile touched his lips.
Then the real pain began.
The energy from the pill did not stop. It poured into every part of him — muscles, bones, organs, even the marrow inside his bones. It felt like giant hands were ripping his bones apart and smashing them back together again and again. His muscles tore and regrew, tore and regrew.
White-hot pain filled his whole world.
Shen Hao’s mind floated away into a bright empty space. No sound. No feeling. No name. He almost forgot who he was.
A single thought fought its way through the emptiness.
*I am Shen Hao.*
*I will not die here.*
*I will not stay weak.*
The thought grew stronger. The cool power Uncle Gu had placed in his mind grabbed him and dragged him back into his body.
The pain returned like a storm.
Black blood poured from his skin. The ground under him cracked. The air around him twisted with wild energy. Somewhere far away he heard screaming. It took him a long time to understand the screams were coming from his own throat.
Then everything stopped.
Shen Hao opened his eyes. He was covered in black sticky liquid. His body felt empty and heavy at the same time.
Uncle Gu stood nearby, watching him with interest.
“You did better than I expected,” the old man said. “You finished the whole body reforging in one go. That black stuff is every impurity your body ever held. It’s gone now. Check your dantian.”
Shen Hao focused inside. A small seed of thick, powerful Qi sat in the center of a much larger space.
“I can feel it,” he said. “But it won’t leave my dantian. It stays locked inside.”
“That’s the next step.” Uncle Gu pointed to a small stream nearby. “Wash that filth off first.”
Shen Hao walked to the water and jumped in. The cold felt good. When he pushed off the bottom, his body shot up into the air. He landed cleanly on the bank.
No pain.
He stared at his hands, then flexed his arms. Power hummed under his skin. For the first time in his life, his body felt light and strong.
He looked at the sky. The sun was rising.
“We were here all night?” he asked.
Uncle Gu laughed. “One night? Boy, we’ve been here for ten full days.”
Shen Hao’s mouth fell open. Ten days. He had been lost in the pain for ten days.
“I’m ready for the next part,” he said.
Uncle Gu pointed to a flat rock. “Lie down. Stay still.”
Shen Hao obeyed. Uncle Gu’s hands moved so fast they became a blur. He struck Shen Hao’s body again and again with precise hits full of energy. Each hit forced the locked meridians open.
When it was over, Uncle Gu stepped back.
“Circulate your Qi now.”
Shen Hao guided the thick energy out of his dantian. It flowed through every pathway in his body in a smooth circle. He kept going until the energy settled.
A soft boom sounded inside him.
He had broken through to the second layer of Gathering Qi.
Uncle Gu stretched and yawned. “That’s the foundation I promised you. The rest is your own problem.”
He turned and started walking away.
Shen Hao scrambled after him. “Master! What do I do now? Should I join a sect? You’re my master!”
Uncle Gu stopped and looked back, looking slightly annoyed.
“You’re a lot of trouble. Fine. I’ll leave something behind.”
He pressed one finger to Shen Hao’s forehead. Strange glowing marks raced across the boy’s skin for a second, then disappeared.
“What was that?” Shen Hao asked.
“A mark on your soul. Not a slave mark. Just a mark. You’ll understand what it does when the time comes. If fate wants us to meet again, we will.”
Uncle Gu smiled like he knew a private joke. Then he walked into the trees and vanished.
Shen Hao stood alone on the mountain.
His new body felt strong. The thick Qi in his dantian felt powerful. But when he looked at his hands, he noticed something strange.
Faint dark lines, like tiny cracks, had appeared under the skin of his palms.
They pulsed once, then went quiet.
A cold feeling slid down his spine.
Something about the reforging was not finished.
Something was still waiting inside him.

Chapter 11: The Dark Power Stirs

The second came from the side with a spear, trying to pin him in place.Shen Hao’s palms still burned from the red Naga fight. Every move sent sharp pain up his arms. He could not clap again. The Master’s warning rang clear in his head.He ducked the sword and twisted away from the spear. His body moved faster than it should have. The Soul-tier hardness in his bones let him take a glancing hit on the shoulder without breaking. But pure speed was not enough. The first bodyguard recovered quick and kicked him in the chest. Shen Hao flew back three steps and spat blood. The second bodyguard followed and slammed a fist into his ribs. Something cracked.Across the clearing, Young Master Zhao laughed.“That’s it! The scout’s words hung in the air.Young Master Zhao was coming.Shen Hao’s hands tightened. The scars on his palms throbbed once, as if they remembered every kick from that dirty alley.Ma Jiande looked at the team. “How many are they?”“At least twelve,” the scout answered. “Three at Qi Condensation, the rest around half-step or peak Gathering Qi. Young Master Zhao is only at the seventh layer of Gathering Qi, but he has two bodyguards at the ninth layer with him.”Ma Jiande frowned. “The Zhao family is rich and arrogant. If they see us near the Blood Essence Fruits, they won’t talk. They’ll attack.”Cai Bo glanced at Shen Hao. “Brother Shen, you know this Zhao kid?”Shen Hao’s voice was quiet and cold. “He used to kick me in the streets when I was weak. He called me trash.”No one spoke for a moment.Ma Jiande made a decision. “We hide the cores and scales we already took. Then we move deeper toward the divine tree. If they find us, we fight. But we don’t start the fight first.”Th

A long scream tore from its throat and shook the leaves around them.Ma Jiande’s face turned serious. “That’s a Tier-2 lord! Everyone form up! Don’t let it separate us!”The team quickly made a half-circle. The stronger cultivators stood in front. Shen Hao and the others stayed ready behind them. The red Naga did not wait.It shot forward like a spear. Its thick tail smashed the ground and sent dirt flying. Ma Jiande met it with his machete. Steel rang against hard scales. The force pushed him back three steps. Two other Qi Condensation fighters jumped in from the sides. Their swords and spears struck the Naga’s arms and shoulders. Sparks flew, but the scales only cracked a little. The Naga roared and swung one heavy arm. One fighter flew through the air and crashed into a tree. He did not get up right away.“Keep pressure on it!” Ma Jiande shouted. “Ai
Chapter 8: Into the Deep Forest
One month passed.Shen Hao’s hands had healed, but thick scar tissue covered both palms. The lines that once marked his hands were gone. He had reached the peak of the third layer of Gathering Qi. Chapter 7: The Girl Who Broke Through
“This is my home,” Shen Hao said. “Well… now it’s our home.”He pointed at the small wooden shack with its single hard bed and holes in the roof. Xun Yu’s face went through several looks at once — thanks, surprise, and a little bit of horror. In the end she forced a smile.“It looks… nice, Brother.”They ate a simple meal. Xun Yu changed his bandages again. When the sky grew dark, Shen Hao stretched.“Time to sleep.”“Who gets the bed?”“Me, of course.”Xun Yu puffed her cheeks. “If you hadn’t gotten hurt saving me, I would make you sleep on the floor.”“Make me? How would a little thing like you do that?”“You’ll see.”Shen Hao almost laughed. He had never had anyone to argue with like this. It felt strangely warm.“Fine. You take the bed. I’ll take the floor.”He kissed her lightly on the forehead and lay down on the hard wood. A moment later Xun Yu quietly slid down beside him and curled up against his side. She was asleep in minutes.---The next morning they went to the Ancient Z
Chapter 6: Little Sister
Shen Hao opened his eyes to a wooden roof.Pots and pans clattered in another room. He was lying on a bed under a thin blanket. When he sat up, he looked at his hands. Both were wrapped in clean bandages. Cool medicine paste sat underneath. As long as he kept still, the pain was only a dull throb. He stared at the bandages.Just clapping my hands with Yin and Yang Qi did this… and it blew the alpha’s head off. My own body still got hurt bad. Most people only use one kind of energy. Mixing them like that was dangerous. I need to be more careful next time.A small face peeked around the doorway.“You’re awake! Does it hurt a lot? Do you want food? Should I change the bandages? I saw the end of the fight — you were so strong! Those wolves would have killed me if you didn’t come. Thank you! But how are you so—”“Slow down,” Shen Hao said. “One question at a time. You talk fast.”The girl stepped into the room. She was tiny, maybe ten years old, with black hair tied in a neat bun. A jade h
