Chapter 2-Goodbye Useless Man!

Alex is silent. His eyes looked one by one at his wife's family members who were staring with condescending smiles. They clearly don't believe that Alex would earn $500 overnight.

Even Alex himself was just bragging with his words. He didn't know where to get the money, but he agreed to his mother-in-law's request simply because he didn't want to be insulted again.

If Alex didn't succeed, then Ms. Anne would surely trample his pride to the ground. Now, he feels that in the eyes of the Sans, Alex is nothing more than street dust that can be brushed aside at any time.

Alex is too overwhelmed with emotion to think and speak immediately. Now, he is at a loss as to where to borrow money.

Ms. Anne raises one eyebrow with an annoying lopsided smile. "I'll wait here and take a look at the bills in person. But by the way, where are you going to get the money? Don't tell me by stealing? Oops! Sorry."

"Hey, Alex. We don't want to get involved with the police!" John half shouted to stir things up.

They all laugh and Alex is left with a dumb face. He has no words to refute their words.

Suddenly, Jasmine's cell phone rings loudly. The woman who looks like a high-class socialite quickly reached into her bag. Her eyes happily widened as she looked at her phone screen.

Alex frowned, wondering who was calling Jasmine that she is so excited. The woman always had a face of indifference, and now, she smiles so broadly that it's as if she just won the lottery.

Jasmine moves away and answers the phone in a low voice. Alex can't hear what the woman is saying. Jasmine talks for a short time before stepping back into the hallway with a beaming face.

"He's coming!" said Jasmine, more like an announcement to her parents.

The frown on Alex's forehead deepened. "He? Who? Why did Jasmine look so happy?"

Alex wants to ask, but the tapping of loafers distracts them. From the opening of the hallway, a man in a neat formal office suit steps towards them. His suit glistened in the lamplight, looking very expensive and high quality. His hair is neatly combed back. A faint smile is on his lips, while one of his hands is in his pants pocket.

Alex looks at the man's face, his age is probably not much different from him - around 30 years old.

"Who is he?"

"Oh, darling! I've been waiting for you," Jasmine squealed as she walked quickly towards the man.

Alex stares uncomprehendingly. Darling? Why was Jasmine calling him that?

"Oh, you've come." His mother-in-law greeted the man warmly, as did her father-in-law and John. Mrs. Anne pushes her husband's wheelchair vigorously towards the man. They surround the man with bright smiles, leaving a dazed Alex behind.

Suddenly, the man leans down and gives Jasmine a small peck on the lips. Alex widens his eyes and steps forward quickly. He is furious at the man's inappropriate behavior towards his wife. Alex almost throws his fist, but Jasmine does not hold him back.

"Stop! What the hell are you doing! Do you intend to fist him?! How dare you!" Jasmine shouted angrily. The people who are passing by in the hallway immediately stare at them.

Alex lowers his fist sluggishly, completely taken aback by Jasmine's scream. He can't understand why his wife is defending another man.

Jasmine sighs and turns to embrace the man in the suit. "Well, let me formally introduce this great man to you. He is Harri, my boyfriend," Jasmine said proudly.

It takes a few seconds for Alex to process his wife's words. What did she just say? Her boyfriend?

Alex's eyes opened wide and it was as if a boulder had hit him hard on the head. "Wh-what did you say?"

"Yes, he is my boyfriend! Harri is a wealthy successful businessman, unlike you who is jobless and poor!"

Harri chuckles and gently touches Jasmine's chin. "Darling, don't be like that. Don't you feel sorry for your husband? Look at his face and appearance, he already looks like a bum on the streets."

"That's the truth! A useless husband who can't make his wife and children happy," said Mrs. Anne. She gave Alex a sharp look, then when her face turned to Harri, her gaze softened instantly.

"I agree with my wife. Jasmine has suffered all this time living with that unemployed man," said Mr. Victor.

Jasmine nods in agreement. "I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't see you, Darling."

"Me too. This meeting was destined, so that you can divorce with your poor husband," Harri whispered, deliberately emphasizing the word 'poor' at the end of the sentence. He gave Jasmine's lips another quick peck, then glanced at Alex who was already lost in thought.

Alex doesn't even know how to react anymore. He was too shocked by the reality that was displayed before his eyes.

Jasmine had clearly betrayed him, but her family was supporting her.

"Jasmine? You're joking, right? That guy... isn't your boyfriend, is he?" Alex spoke with a stammer.

Jasmine shakes her head and walks over to Alex with a smug expression. "Absolutely no. Harri is my boyfriend and I want us to get a divorce! You will get the letter tomorrow!"

Without waiting for Alex's shocked reply, Jasmine immediately embraced Harri's arm intimately. "Come on darling, let's get out of here. I'm so hungry."

"There happens to be a five-star restaurant nearby. The sea food and Chinese food are very good. Do you want to go there?" Harri offered.

"Of course. Five-star restaurants are the best for us," said Mrs. Anne with a big smile. Mr. Victor who was sitting leisurely in his wheelchair also nodded enthusiastically.

"Wow, Jasmine's boyfriend is so amazing. Not like someone who can only stand like a fool," John quipped with a laugh.

Harri chuckles and pats John on the shoulder. "There are many people who can only talk when their wallets are empty."

John's laughter erupted. "Yes, you're absolutely right. Let's go then."

"Yes, let's go everyone. Please!"

Harri bows respectfully and invites Mrs. Anne, Mr. Victor, and John to step up first. Afterward, he wrapped his arms around Jasmine's waist intimately and flashed a triumphant smile at Alex who was stuck in place.

Alex's feelings overlapped-between anger, sadness, confusion, annoyance, and concern. He clenches his hands into fists and desperately holds back the curse that wants to come out.

Before completely turning down the hallway, Harri turns his head once more towards Alex. Her mouth said silently, saying 'Goodbye useless man!'

Alex tightly clenched his fists, holding back the anger that bubbled up in his chest. Someday, he is promise to get back at the man and his wife's family for insulting him.
