Kelvin's Pov

Justin’s eyes widen in shock as he recognizes me. “You? What are you doing here?”

Mary’s face pales, her grip tightening on Justin’s arm. “Kelvin… how…”

“Well, well,” Justin sneers, stepping closer. “Look who decided to show up. What are you doing here, Kelvin? Did you get lost on your way to the dumpster?”

Mary laughs, her voice high-pitched and grating. “Maybe he’s here to beg for a job. You know how desperate he is.”

I clench my fists but keep my expression calm. “I could ask you the same question. What are you doing here?”

Are you really asking me that? ‘Justin puffs out his chest, his smirk widening. “I’m here because I was invited. My father is about to establish a partnership with Eclipse Group. Once the new chairman signs off on our project, we’ll be unstoppable. But you? You’re just a useless, poor orphan who doesn’t deserve to be here.”

Mary nods, her eyes narrowing. “Yeah, Kelvin. You don’t belong here. Why don’t you crawl back to whatever hole you came out from?”

I smirk, my tone dripping with sarcasm. “It’s not certain whether you’ll even secure that partnership you are yearning about, Justin. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.”

Justin’s face reddens, his fists clenching. “You think you’re so clever, don’t you? You’re nothing, Kelvin. Nothing!”

Mary, clearly fed up, steps forward and waves over a pair of security guards. “Excuse me! This man doesn’t belong here, he doesn't have an invitation. He’s trespassing and should be thrown out immediately.”

The guards approach, their expressions stern. One of them, a burly man with a buzz cut, looks me up and down. “Is this true, sir? Do you have an invitation?”

I don’t say a word. Instead, I reach into my pocket and pull out the black card with the Eclipse Group logo. I hold it up, my gaze steady. “Does this give me the right to enter?”

The guards exchange confused glances. They don’t recognize the card, and neither does Mary.

“What is that?” Mary scoffs. “Some fake ID you made yourself? Pathetic.”

Justin laughs, his voice loud and obnoxious. “Yeah, Kelvin. Did you print that at a copy shop? You’re such a joke.”

The burly guard steps closer, his hand reaching for my arm. “Sir, if you don’t have a valid invitation, I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” This event is strictly for invitees only and not some low life.

I don’t move. My voice is calm but firm. “I suggest you think carefully before touching me.”

The guard ignores my warning and grabs my arm. Big mistake.

In one swift motion, I twist out of his grip and slap him across the face. The sound echoes through the lobby, and the guard stumbles back, clutching his cheek. His partner freezes, his eyes wide with shock.

“What the hell?” the second guard mutters, stepping back.

Justin and Mary are equally stunned. Justin’s smirk is gone, replaced by a look of disbelief. Mary’s mouth hangs open, her earlier confidence shattered.

“How… how did you do that?” Justin stammers, his voice shaky.

I don’t answer. Instead, I step closer to the guards, my gaze cold. “Do you still want to try removing me?”

The burly guard hesitates, his hand hovering near his radio. “You’re going to regret this,” he mutters, but he doesn’t make a move.

Mary, recovering from her shock, glares at me. “You’re going to pay for this, Kelvin. You can’t just attack security and get away with it!”

I turn to her, my expression unreadable. “You’re right, Mary. I can’t. But I didn’t attack anyone. I defended myself. And if you or Justin have a problem with that, feel free to do something about it.”

Justin steps forward, his face red with anger. “You think you’re so tough now, don’t you? You’re still nothing, Kelvin. Absolutely nothing!”

I smirk, my tone dripping with sarcasm. “Keep telling yourself that, Justin. Maybe one day you’ll actually believe it.”

Mary grabs Justin’s arm, her voice trembling. “Let’s just go. He’s not worth it.”

Justin hesitates, his fists clenched, I hear Mary mutter under her breath. “He’s going to regret this. Justin, make sure your father knows what happened. Kelvin needs to be taught a lesson.”

Justin nods, his expression dark. “Don’t worry. He’ll get what’s coming to him.”

The guards are still standing nearby, unsure of what to do.

  • Chapter 149: The Price of Bullets

Kelvin's POV The room feels too small, too suffocating, like the walls themselves are leaning in to watch me break. Justin’s gun gleams under the fluorescent lights, its barrel pressed hard against Brianna’s temple. Her face is pale, her eyes swollen with terror, and her lips tremble as she whispers my name like a prayer.“Drink it,” Justin growls, shaking the glass bottle of poison in my direction. His smile is wicked, stretched too wide, like a mask sewn into his flesh. “One swallow, Kelvin. Just one. Or she dies here and now.”My hand hovers in the air as I stare at the poison. It’s thick, swirling like liquid death. I reach out, fingers brushing the bottle’s cool surface. My stomach twists into knots, bile rising in my throat. If I drink it, Brianna lives. If I don’t, she dies.My chest pounds so hard it hurts. I raise the bottle slowly, my hand trembling as though the glass weighs a hundred pounds. Brianna lets out a cry, a sound so raw it slashes straight into me.“No, Kelvin!”

Every second that passes feels like a blade twisting deeper.I try to shove past the police at the entrance. “Let me through. He needs me in there!”A uniformed officer blocks me with a firm hand. “Sir, you can’t. It’s too dangerous. We’ve got strict orders”I cut him off, rage spilling out of me. “Orders? He’s in there facing Justin alone! He’s walking into death, and you expect me to stand here and do nothing?”Behind me, I hear Lydia’s voice, cracked and broken. She’s sobbing, begging the officers just as desperately. “Please, you don’t understand. That man in there Kelvin he’s everything. I

The phone rings as I’m racing through the streets, every muscle in my body tense. It’s the police chief. I drive her out of the city myself, Lopez tailing behind us with two cars full of my men. She sits beside me in silence, her hands folded in her lap, staring out the window.
