Kelvin's Pov
The security guard I slapped stumbles back, clutching his cheek. His partner freezes, his eyes wide with shock. The entire lobby seems to hold its breath as the guard crashes into a nearby potted plant, sending soil and leaves scattering across the polished floor.
Before anyone can react, the lobby manager rushes over, his face a mix of concern and irritation. “What’s going on here?” he demands, his sharp eyes darting between me, the guards, and the mess on the floor.
The guard I slapped points at me, his voice trembling with anger. “This guy attacked me! He’s pretending to have some exclusive card and refused to leave when we asked him to.”
Justin and Mary, who had been watching from a safe distance, step forward now, their expressions smug.
“Yeah,” Justin says, his tone dripping with mockery. “He’s been causing trouble all morning. Thinks he’s some big shot with that fake card of his.”
Mary nods, her arms crossed. “He’s just a poor orphan who doesn’t know his place. You should throw him out before he causes more problems.”
The lobby manager turns to me, his expression stern. “Is this true, sir? Do you have any proof that you’re authorized to be here?”
I don’t say a word. Instead, I pull out the black card with the Eclipse Group logo and hold it up for him to see.
The manager’s eyes narrow as he studies the card. For a brief moment, his expression softens, and I can see the flicker of recognition in his eyes. He’s seen cards like this before cards issued to top executives of Eclipse Group.
But then his face hardens again, and he shakes his head. “This card… it’s close, but it’s not quite right. The design is slightly different from the executive cards I’ve seen. It must be a fake.”
Justin bursts out laughing, his voice loud and obnoxious. “I told you! He’s a fraud!”
Mary smirks, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. “Yeah, Kelvin. You’re not fooling anyone.”
The manager turns to the guards, his voice firm. “Escort this man out of the building immediately. And make sure he doesn’t cause any more trouble.”
The guards step forward, their expressions grim. The one I slapped earlier looks particularly eager for revenge.
But before they can lay a hand on me, a voice cuts through the tension like a knife.
“What’s going on here?”
Everyone freezes as a tall, well-dressed man strides into the lobby. His presence is commanding, and the way the manager and guards immediately straighten up tells me he’s someone important.
The manager turns to him, his tone suddenly nervous. “Mr. Harris, this man was causing a disturbance. He claims to have an executive card, but it’s clearly a fake. We were just about to remove him from the premises.”
Mr. Harris’s eyes narrow as he looks at me. Then his gaze falls on the black card still in my hand. His expression changes instantly, his face paling as he recognizes it.
“Where did you get that card?” he demands, his voice sharp.
I don’t flinch. “It was given to me.”
Mr. Harris steps closer, his eyes locked on the card. He takes it from my hand and examines it carefully, his expression growing more serious by the second.
The manager, clearly confused, tries to intervene. “Mr. Harris, the design is slightly different from the executive cards. It must be a fake.”
Mr. Harris turns to him, his eyes blazing with anger. “You idiot! This isn’t just an executive card. This is the highest level black card, issued only to the chairman and his immediate family. The design is different because it’s not meant to be recognized by anyone outside the top tier of the company.”
The manager’s face turns ashen. “I… I didn’t know. I thought”
Mr. Harris doesn’t let him finish. He slaps the manager across the face, the sound echoing through the lobby. “You thought wrong. And now you’ve insulted someone far above your pay grade.”
The manager stumbles back, clutching his cheek. His earlier confidence is gone, replaced by sheer terror.
Mr. Harris turns to me, his expression apologetic. “Sir, please accept my deepest apologies for this misunderstanding. I assure you, this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.”
I nod, my expression calm. “See that it isn’t.”
Justin and Mary are staring at the scene, their faces pale with shock. Justin’s mouth is hanging open, and Mary looks like she’s about to faint.
“What… what just happened?” Justin mutters, his voice barely above a whisper.
Mary shakes her head, her eyes wide. “I don’t know, but this isn’t good.”
Mr. Harris turns to the guards, his tone sharp. “Get back to your posts. And if I hear about any more incompetence, you’ll be looking for new jobs.”
The guards nod quickly and hurry away, their heads down.
Mr. Harris then turns to the manager, his expression cold. “You’re suspended until further notice. I’ll be discussing your future with the company later.”
The manager nods shakily, his face pale. “Yes, Mr. Harris.”
With that, Mr. Harris turns back to me, his tone respectful. “Sir, if there’s anything else you need, please don’t hesitate to let me know.”
I shake my head. “I’m fine. Thank you.”
Mr. Harris nods and steps aside, allowing me to pass. As I walk through the lobby, I can feel the weight of everyone’s stares. Justin and Mary are still standing there, their expressions a mix of shock and fear.
I stop in front of them, my gaze steady. “Still think I don’t belong here?”
Justin opens his mouth to respond, but no words come out. Mary looks away, her face red with embarrassment.
I don’t wait for a reply. I turn and walk away, my head held high.

Chapter 149: The Price of Bullets
Kelvin's POV The room feels too small, too suffocating, like the walls themselves are leaning in to watch me break. Justin’s gun gleams under the fluorescent lights, its barrel pressed hard against Brianna’s temple. Her face is pale, her eyes swollen with terror, and her lips tremble as she whispers my name like a prayer.“Drink it,” Justin growls, shaking the glass bottle of poison in my direction. His smile is wicked, stretched too wide, like a mask sewn into his flesh. “One swallow, Kelvin. Just one. Or she dies here and now.”My hand hovers in the air as I stare at the poison. It’s thick, swirling like liquid death. I reach out, fingers brushing the bottle’s cool surface. My stomach twists into knots, bile rising in my throat. If I drink it, Brianna lives. He’s in there facing Justin alone! He’s walking into death, and you expect me to stand here and do nothing?”Behind me, I hear Lydia’s voice, cracked and broken. She’s sobbing, begging the officers just as desperately. “Please, you don’t understand. That man in there Kelvin he’s everything. I
