It wasn't just a scream. Anyone who heard it could sense the fierce intent to kill. Even the gangsters froze instantly, including the long-haired one who was currently choking Rose while squeezing her boobs.
A second later, when the long-haired gangster turned back, he saw someone jump out of the black sedan and vault over the fence—landing right behind three of the gangster's subordinates.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Before the three gangsters could do anything, they were beaten down by that person until they were sprawled on the ground. No doubt about it, that person was Leon.
"Bastard! You're asking for a death wish!" the long-haired man roared, pointing at Leon with the hand holding the knife.
That was a signal for his men to attack Leon. But what happened? Leon charged the long-haired man without hesitation, making him stumble sideways. Blood gushed from his temple, flooding one side of his face until he had to shut his eye.
And before he could even do anything, a hard kick slammed into his chin, sending him reeling until the back of his head slammed into the ground.
"Ugh..."
The long-haired man groaned in pain, clutching his head. Now his other eye was closed too. And this wasn't over. As he tried to blink his eyes open, something hard smashed into his stomach.
"Ukh!!!"
His body instantly arched into a half-circle. Blood spurted from his wide-open mouth. His eyes bulged.
And that was the end of the long-haired gangster. He lay flat on his back with his eyes and mouth wide open. Blood still oozed from his right temple.
"Go to hell," Leon said coldly.
The other gangsters, who could only watch what Leon did to the long-haired man, now trembled in fear. And when Leon shifted his gaze to a few of them, they automatically backed up two or three steps.
"Leon? Is that you?" Rose asked, looking at him in disbelief while pulling her brown coat tighter.
"Are you alright?" Leon asked back.
Rose didn't answer. She was too confused to respond. But she looked safe, so Leon turned his eyes to the house porch. There, two gangsters were holding his mother. Another was covering her mouth with a handkerchief that appeared to have been soaked in some kind of liquid.
"You all are bastards!" Leon swore with a thundering voice. He moved quickly toward the porch, his eyes ablaze.
There was no mercy from Leon. He smashed every gangster within his attack range.
Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!
Five gangsters collapsed, no longer moving. Only three remained on the porch.
Leon prepared himself, then jumped onto the porch. He hit the three gangsters, sending them flying and rolling on the ground.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Grab!
Leon crouched down and caught Mary. His mother was unconscious. A pungent smell wafted from her open mouth.
Slowly, Leon laid his mother on the floor and checked her vital signs. After making sure she was okay, he shifted his attention back to the three gangsters. He stood up and snorted like a dragon, then jumped down to the yard.
Grab!
The three gangsters, who were groaning in pain from several broken ribs, immediately scrambled away, their gazes filled with fear.
"Mercy... We beg you for mercy... Please don't kill us..." one of them pleaded.
Leon approached him, stopping only about twenty centimeters away.
"Who are you guys? Are you part of a major mafia organization in this city? Who sent you here??" Leon pressed.
The gangster in front of Leon tried to answer but was hampered by the pain in his chest. He coughed up blood, only then looking at Leon again.
"We... we're just local gangsters in this area... The one who sent us here... his name was, if I remember correctly, Greg... Gregory or something like that... Our boss was the one who took the call from him...." the gangster said, pointing to the long-haired man who was now a corpse.
"Please... Let us go..." the gangster, whose hand was shaking violently, added.
Smash!
Leon punched the gangster directly in the jaw, sending him flying up and crashing hard onto the ground—dead.
Leon then turned to the two remaining gangsters. They were already seriously wounded. They had difficulty even just standing up. In that condition, they couldn't even win against an average adult male.
"P-pardon..."
"W-we're sorry..."
Smash! Smash!
There was no compassion. Both gangsters collapsed. Leon had truly wiped out every gangster who entered his family's yard.
"Is everything okay, Leon?" Evelyn asked loudly, having just gotten out of the car and now opening the gate, entering the yard.
Evelyn briefly exchanged glances with Rose before running toward Leon. When Evelyn held his arm, Leon sighed deeply.
"I'm okay. Sorry I left you in the car earlier. I... I couldn't think straight back then..."
"It's okay. I can understand."
Leon could see that Evelyn was worried about him. Somehow, that made him happy. A smile naturally appeared on his face.
But it was too soon to think all the problems were solved. At this point, Rose walked toward them with a face full of rage. Her eyes were locked on Leon.
Leon turned his body to face his older sister. He stepped forward, about to say something to calm Rose, but Rose suddenly took off one of her high-heeled shoes and threw it at Leon's face.
Whoosh!
Leon instinctively dodged. Rose took off her other high-heeled shoe and this time tried to use it like a hammer, again aiming for Leon's face.
Leon was about to catch Rose's hand before the sharp tip of the high heel hit his face, but he was startled by Evelyn, who suddenly positioned herself between him and Rose.
Thwack!
"Ah!"
The tip of the high heel hit Evelyn's hand, leaving a short gash there. Leon was stunned. He saw blood dripping from Evelyn's hand.
"Rose, what the hell are you doing?!" Leon protested.
Rose was surprised for a moment, but instead of feeling guilty, she now looked at Leon with escalating fury.
"Get out of here, both of you!" she snapped.
Leon looked at Rose in disbelief. He had just saved her, but now she was hurting Evelyn and kicking him out. Had his sister gone crazy?
Rose moved toward the porch, approaching Mary, who was lying there unconscious. Leon wanted to follow her, but he had to deal with the injury on Evelyn's hand.
"Let me look at your wound." Leon held Evelyn's injured hand, pulling it gently.
"It really hurts..." Evelyn whimpered.
Leon carefully scanned the laceration. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a small bottle containing a clear liquid.
"Eve, bite my arm. This might hurt a lot for a moment," Leon said.
Evelyn looked back at Leon, looking doubtful, but she did what Leon suggested.
Leon opened the small bottle's cap, pouring a bit of the clear liquid onto the gash on Evelyn's hand.
Evelyn closed her eyes, biting Leon's arm hard. It didn't bother Leon. He focused on observing Evelyn's wound. In an instant, the wound dried up. And, even more magically, it sealed itself shut.
"How is it now? Does it still hurt?" Leon glanced at Evelyn.
Evelyn opened her eyes, looking confused. She then released her bite from Leon's arm and checked her injured hand.
The wound was gone. The only sign that the injury had ever existed was the bloodstain still left there.
"You okay now?" Leon asked.
"Yeah, I'm okay," Evelyn answered. "What did you do?"
Leon didn't answer, just sighing in relief and smiling. There was no way he could tell Evelyn that what he just used was a special healing fluid he obtained from The Nocturn.
"You wait here for a moment, okay?" Leon said, placing his hand on Evelyn's shoulder and looking straight into her eyes.
Still looking confused, Evelyn nodded. Leon then moved toward the porch. On the porch, Rose was trying to wake Mary up with a panicked expression. She had tried several ways, but still failed.
Leon stepped onto the porch. Rose turned to him and glared. "What do you want? Go away!"
Leon ignored her. He crouched down on Mary's right side, putting him face-to-face with Rose.
"Move away a little. Let me handle this," Leon said.
"Huh?!" Rose glared at Leon.

The Happy Ending
Leon and his small family gathered in the dining room. Dishes were served; all of them looked appetizing. Leon smiled widely. It had been a very long time since he last tasted his mother’s cooking in such a warm moment.“Happy birthday, my son, my beloved child. Forgive me for only being able to do something like this now,” Mary said.Mary’s gaze at Leon was full of love. And Leon could see that his mother was trying her hardest to hold back her tears from falling.“It’s okay, Mom. Thank you for doing this sweet and meaningful thing for me,” Leon said.Because of his words, Mary’s tears fell. Leon widened his smile again. He wiped the tears from Mary’s left cheek.“Thank goodness we can have dinner together tonight as planned. I was worried earlier that you wouldn’t come home today,” Evelyn said.Leon looked at his wife, took her hand, and stroked the back of her hand.“Forgive me, okay. I made you worry earlier,” Leon said.Evelyn smiled and nodded. Leon pulled his hand back, signali
A Would-Be-The-Warmest Moment
Leon and the President stared at each other intensely. Suddenly, the door on the left opened, and the waitress from earlier walked in. This time, she wasn't pushing a cart or anything. Her steps were firm, and her eyes were locked on Leon.“Stop right there! Don’t get any closer!” the President commanded. The waitress’s steps halted.“Our lunch isn't over yet,” the President continued, turning to the waitress. “Get out.”The waitress glanced at Leon briefly, looking displeased, then nodded. As ordered, she turned around and left. After the waitress’s figure disappeared behind the door, the President asked, “Do you realize you just threatened a President?”Leon was silent for a moment, then nodded. “I know the person I am facing right now is the President, the number one man in this country, but that makes no difference. Anyone who threatens to do something bad to the people I care about will have to answer to me. And I… will not hold back.”They stared at each other again, in silence.
The Exchange of Warnings
Leon frowned, raising an eyebrow.“Mr. President, you’re not pulling my leg, are you?” Leon asked. “You suddenly asked me to do something like that. That’s... that’s not funny at all.”“I’m not joking, Leon,” the President countered. “I’m serious. I truly want you to be my shadow. I need someone like you to restore the health of this administration, like it used to be.”Leon stopped chewing. He swallowed the remaining food in his mouth and set down his fork and spoon. It seemed his assessment earlier was correct. Something was wrong with the man sitting across from him.“Mr. President, I don’t mean to be insolent or anything. I think you should reconsider what you just asked. You are asking me to… eliminate your political opponents. Do you want me to kill them? Is that it?”The President stared intently at Leon. He nodded calmly.Leon sighed. He directed his gaze toward two o'clock. He actually wanted to shake his head, but he restrained himself because that wasn't polite—this was one
Be My Shadow
Leon put his hands on his hips, thinking and thinking. Finally, he had an idea.He grabbed a chair, placed it against the wall where the small opening was located. He took one piece of food and wet it as before, then went back to the chair and climbed onto it.He tried to stand on his tiptoes and raise his hand high. It still wasn't enough. He shifted his footing to the chair's armrest, battling gravity to maintain his balance. This time he managed to bring the piece of food close enough to the opening. And, he focused his inner energy into the hand holding the piece of food. Then, after taking a deliberate aim, he threw the piece of food.Bruakk!!Zashhhhh!!!!!The piece of food smashed right into the small opening, destroying it. Sparks filled the air around the spot.Leon jumped, moving to the side. He waited until the sparks vanished. And, the result was as he hoped: the opening was no longer streaming white smoke.Leon smiled broadly. He returned to the table, quickly doing the s
The Green Shield
Leon had brought absolutely none of his gear. He even left his favorite knife at home, beneath a pile of clothes in the wardrobe. So, he immediately tore off his shirt and used it as an emergency mask. Leon didn't yet know the effect of the white gas, but he had to be vigilant. Now he had to figure out what he would do to prevent the white gas from reaching his eyes. From what Leon saw, the white gas was entering from above and below. This meant it was pointless to move to a higher spot.Leon scanned his surroundings, looking for windows or ventilation shafts, but he couldn't find any. This room was more like a confinement chamber than a meeting room.Leon looked up, staring at the camera on the ceiling. He didn't know what the President was thinking. Was this a test? Did he want to know if Leon could escape this situation? Or did he truly intend to eliminate him? While Leon was guessing, the white smoke grew denser; in several spots, it began to clump and thicken. Die For Me
“Who am I speaking with right now? Mr. President?” Leon asked.“Correct. You are speaking with the President.”“Why don’t you show yourself directly, sir? Are you afraid I’ll do something to harm you?”The President laughed. The camera moved slightly before aiming back at him.“I will reveal myself at the right moment. For now, let’s just talk like this. Sit down in one of the chairs at that table.”Leon looked at the table he had seen earlier. He pulled out one of the chairs and sat down. His gaze returned to the camera on the ceiling.“I’m seated,” Leon said.“I know. I can see you,” the President replied.“So, what are we going to discuss here, Mr. President? Are you planning to detain me here for a long time?”“That depends on you. It depends on how well you can complete what you must complete.”Those words again. Leon grew curious about what he was actually facing here. Whatever it was, it didn't seem easy to deal with.“Perhaps I should start with a simple question: who are you?
