He dodged.

“What are you doing?” Pete yelled furiously.

“Are you that dumb you can't see we're trying to kill you.”

“What did we do? are they in debt to you?”

“You talk too much,” the boy followed with a high knee to Pete's stomach causing him to stumble on the ground and cough up blood.

Hank and Marilyn were engaged and barely holding their self in the fight so he couldn't they couldn't help him.

“You bastards how would you do something like this?” Hank said releasing his neck from the mans grip.

I knew you were up to something, tell me who hired you.

“I'm sure they wouldn't want you to know so just make this easy alright.”

Hank launched forward delivering a low blow to the mans chin

The impact was harder than a usual punch as the mans head recoiled on impact but he didn't stumble too far

“Ohh I see you have a hardening ability, guess what? You're not the only one with that.”

The man grunted as a layer of silver metal formed across his skin, Hank instinctively shrouded his body, spreading a hardened layer on his skin and on impact a loud clang was Heard that shook the room causing the the others engaged in a fight to look at their direction.

The punch sent Hank flying across the room, with a loud bang he hit the wall and dent with his figure was formed, but the man wasn't done he moved so quickly it looked like a flash step covering the distance between he and Hank.

Hank moved out of the way before the blow connected leaving the man to create a fist size hole in the wall.

He shifted his weight and delivered a swift kick to the mans neck, a loud bang sounded and the mans hardened head went through the wall, out of the building.

Hank was able to match his strength due to his ability but that couldn't be said for Marilyn.

The bulky woman grabbed her hair and tossed her across the room like a ragdoll as Marilyn got up a kick connected to her ribs sending her rolling across the room.

Marilyn picked her self up slowly and as the woman lauched at her again she sidestepped grabbing her and using the momentum to flip her, sending her rolling to the side.

It was a good move but it didn't keep her down for long, the woman got up and delivered a sharp hook aimed at Marilyn who barely dodged the hit that could cripple her.

If this went on for an elongated time she would be out of breath, her ability isn't a fighting type.

The woman created cracks in the floor with her fists without wincing on impact as Marilyn narrowly escaped, it was clear she had a hardening ability too, so squashing Marilyn wouldn't be a big deal.

Little Timmy, the boy Pete was engaged with grabbed the orb from his waist as pete lay unmoving with one of his eyes almost shut from multiple bruises.

He placed his finger on the orb to take out the weapon.

‘If he gets hold of that sword I'm as good as dead, so is Marilyn and mom, I can't let that happen.’

The will to protect his family burned through him, more than the tearing pain that ached in his muscles.

A sudden burst of energy surged through him, Pete let out a guttural scream and stomped on little Timmy's knee, making his joint curve inwardly.

The boy lost his balance and Pete seized the opportunity, he launched at him and stomped his foot on little Timmy's face.

The impact sent him down to the ground, although he used his feet, Pete limped a bit, there was a little numbness from the attack, maybe he too he had an hardening ability like his parents.

Pete grabbed the orb and pulled out the blades, then moved slowly towards the boy who was trying to use the table as an aid to get back up, with a precise swing he aimed at the head but the boy narrowly dodged and it connected with his shoulder.

His little brother gasped, his eyes widened, fear gripped him and the best thing he could do was run.

Claudia had moved away from the fight the moment she had a chance and now she stood backed against the wall watching her kids entangled in a battle of life and death.

No mother would want to watch that especially when they're helpless in such situation, she reached for the door.

Hoping to get someone to stop this madness, if she could contact a military personel in time, maybe things will be resolved but she had to get home to do that.

She stepped off their porch, hurrying in quick steps to her house. As she stepped on her porch, she heard a little voice more like a whisper call out to her.

“Hey there are you going aren't you staying for the party.”

She ignored it and continued trying the lock on the door, she reached down to her side pocket to get the key but it was empty.

Marylin had taken the keys.

She couldn't walk in the middle of the fight and demand for the house key when she was trying to not get involved so she turned around to see where the voice came from.

It was the little boy, the one who ran off, holding two blades, a creepy smile formed on his lips making him look like something fresh out a horror movie.

Pete mom breathed in calming herself.

“Jimmy, what are you doing here.”

“You were leaving the party when it was just getting started I wouldn't want you to miss it” Jimmy said with an creepy smile, tilting his head as he spoke.

And then he…

  • An attack?

“Are you expecting anyone?” Pete asked generally.“Let me handle that," Hank said, stepping up and swinging the door open. Before them were two boys, a teenager and a child, the ones Pete had seen earlier. They both had a striking resemblance but the older one was clearly bigger. “My parents said they have a surprise for the neighborhood, and they want you to come join us.” The older one said.“Ohh, little Timmy, is that so? Alright, give us a minute.” Hank assured them as he closed the door.‘I wonder what those guys are up to, they've been distant for a while, now they have a surprise for the hood?’It sounded weird, but Hank waved it away, he didn't have to pass the message since everyone heard what the boy said.“So what do you think, Mom? Should we go” Hank questioned “When did you start calling her mom? I don't remember having a brother.” Pete chimed in“Relax, Pico, it's a family thing.” she said, grabbing his arm.“I think we should check it out, they did say it's for the ne

He had left him, just to arrive at this mess. He was starting to regret his decision; there was nothing better coming here.Maybe if he went to rescue him, he could actually have a fight and gauge his new strength. Based on his experience with Hank he was slacking. So he decided to practice, first thing in the morning. Before sunrise, he was up, he made his way to the grass clearing in front of the house and pulled the two short swords out of the orb.“I shouldn't have fallen too behind with these.” He muttered, flexing the blades in his grip.He got in a fighting stance, his legs spread apart, then swung at the air. He staggered slightly at the impact point. While trying to regain his balance, an abrupt laugh caught his attention.“Haa! I actually thought yo

  • Unexpected revelation

Pete stood in the doorway, his eyes widened with shock as he stared at the woman peeking behind the stranger. Those calm eyes, that smooth skin like a pearl glowing in the light, and black hair neatly packed in a bun, confirmed it was his mom.But something was different, she was standing on her own with no support, or in a wheelchair, she could finally walk again. His heart pounded like a drum, mixed with emotions of joy and confusion."Mom?" Pete whispered. He twitched his brow, trying to make sense of it all. "What's going on? Your… your standing fine? And who is this guy?"The young man at the door with a sharp trimmed beard stepped aside giving Pete a polite smile.”I'm Hank,”But Pete barely heard him. He was lost in thoughts and assumptions. • Burnt city

The swirling energy of the teleporter wrapped around Pete and the Dashkyr like a cool mist. One moment, they were in an underwater hideout, inside a room full of teleporters then they stepped through one, a rush of cool air hit them, like they were floating uncontrollably in space. The next moment, their feet landed on the ground. They had arrived at Manchik City, and instantly the portal faded behind them. Pete looked around the environment, trying to recall this part of town. The tall buildings that once looked majestic now had missing parts crumbled to the floor in ash, the streets he remembered as busy with people were now empty with cracked pavements and weeds growing on the sides."I'm guessing you know where we are?" The Dashkyr inquired standing beside Pete. "This place looks like it's been through hell." It added."This is my hometown," Pete replied in a low tone. "But… It's worse than I remember. There used to be people here, follow me."When he moved ahead, he couldn't re
