Jasper stared at his phone as the credit alert chimed, the withdrawal alert displayed clearly on the screen. A satisfied smile spread across his face.

He had just stepped out of the lottery redemption center. After handing over the ticket, he had instantly received the alert.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, imagining the life he would have from now on. His miserable life was finally over.

Jasper was from the future. And it was not a kind future. It was a future so terrible that, if he had known what was coming, he would have committed suicide rather than live through it.

But he had been reborn.

Seven days ago, he had opened his eyes and realized he had been given another chance at life. He never expected that after dying in agony, he would actually be reborn.

At that moment, his body couldn't stop trembling. This was ten years in the past—the final golden age of the global economy.

As soon as he realized when he had returned, Jasper understood what it meant. This was his second chance. No one else knew what was coming except him, and this was an opportunity to make things right.

Right at that moment, Jasper's phone rang. It was a call from his current girlfriend, Emma.

He put on a smirk before picking it up. The moment he answered, she spoke in an impatient and overbearing tone.

“Come to the restaurant and pay my bill.”

Before Jasper could even respond, Emma hung up the phone.

Jasper's expression instantly darkened. He clenched his fist, furious.

Emma and her family were the very people who had caused his tragic death in his previous life. Yet even after being reborn, she was still speaking to him in the same arrogant manner.

However, Jasper quickly calmed down.He was already planning to break up with her, so there was no reason to get too angry.

He put his phone away and headed straight to the restaurant.

Emma was sitting with her younger brother, Ryan. The two of them were talking and laughing as they enjoyed their meal, completely unconcerned about the bill.

They had ordered a huge amount of food, but they didn't care. They already knew who would be paying.

The moment Emma saw Jasper walk into the restaurant, her smile disappeared.

She immediately waved her hand impatiently.

“Jasper, you're finally here. Go pay the bill.”

The waiter approached Jasper with an awkward expression. He had already witnessed this scene several times before and was quite familiar with Jasper coming to pay for Emma's meals.

That was how Jasper used to be.

He shouldered everything for Emma and her family, cleaning up their messes and paying whenever necessary, like a fool who had no sense of self-worth.

“Sir, the total is $2,000,” the waiter reported.

Jasper was stunned when he heard the amount.

“What the heck? You ordered $2,000 worth of food? That's enough to cover an entire month's rent!”

The waiter blinked. This had never happened before. Jasper had never complained about paying.

Emma and Ryan were equally shocked. They had expected him to foot the bill as usual.

Emma scoffed and frowned. “Stop embarrassing me. This is just $2,000. Moreover, Ryan has returned from his trip, and we're having a reunion. What's wrong with eating something nice? Just pay up.”

Jasper scoffed. Before, he would have sighed and paid without another word. Looking back, he couldn't believe how foolish he had been.

“Then why did you call me if the two of you wanted to eat something nice? And you can't even pay for it yourselves?”

“What's wrong with you today?” Emma demanded. “This is unlike you. We don't have to fight over this.”

Ryan finally chimed in.

“Brother-in-law, what's this all about? Don't embarrass me. I just returned, and this is how you're going to welcome me?”

The commotion quickly attracted the attention of the people nearby.

Several customers turned their heads, and whispers spread through the restaurant. They all knew Jasper had always been the one footing the bill whenever Emma and Ryan went out.

“Is he really refusing to pay?”

“I thought he always paid for them.”

“Maybe they had a fight?”

“No way. He has always been a pushover when it comes to that woman.”

The whispers grew louder, and Emma's expression became increasingly uncomfortable. She clearly did not expect Jasper to have the boldness to challenge her in front of everyone.

She slammed her hand lightly against the table.

“Jasper!”

Her voice carried through the restaurant.

“You're seriously making a scene for over two thousand dollars? What happened to you? You're my boyfriend. Isn't this what a boyfriend is supposed to do?”

Jasper gave her a cold look.“What is a boyfriend supposed to do?”

“Yes!” Emma snapped. “If you're my boyfriend, then you should be proving that you're worthy of me. This is the time for you to step up, but instead, you're acting useless over a little money.”

Ryan added, “So, I would give my hand in your relationship, without my support you can't marry my sister!”.

A few people nearby exchanged amused looks.

Jasper let out a cold sneer. “Come on, Emma. We're not even legally married. Why should I be taking on such responsibilities?”

Emma's face stiffened. Jasper continued, his voice calm but filled with contempt.

“I've already paid your brother's tuition and living expenses for years. Now that he has finally graduated, instead of finding a job and supporting himself, he's still expecting me to pay for his trips, his meals, and whatever else he wants.”

He glanced at Ryan. “Tell me, Ryan. When did I become your father? Why am I responsible for everything you spend?”

Ryan's expression changed. Jasper leaned forward, a mocking smile appearing on his face.

“Well, maybe if you call me Daddy now, I can reconsider. Otherwise, you and your sister should pay for your extravagant spending yourselves.”
