Chapter 7: The True Heir Returns

The Capital Academy was the premier training ground for the elite scions of the Capital’s high-ranking clans, a sprawling fortress of architectural glass and ancient stone where power, wealth, and spiritual talent dictated everything.

An armored, obsidian-black transport bearing the unmistakable silver dragon crest of the Sovereign Vance Clan glided smoothly through the Academy's main gates. Students from secondary houses immediately parted like the Red Sea, staring at the vehicle with a mixture of reverence and curiosity.

"Is that a Prime Heir vehicle?" a student whispered, nudging his companion. "I thought the only Vance scion currently at the Academy was Olivia Vance, and she rides the standard clan shuttle. Did the elusive Prime Heir finally return?"

Inside the luxury leather interior of the transport, twenty-two-year-old Austin sat with his arms crossed, watching the familiar campus grounds roll past. In his past life, he had completely abandoned his responsibilities to the Vance Clan during this exact period, spending all his time managing the Sterlings' crumbling shell companies. Because of his absence, he had failed to notice the subtle, malicious traps being set around his younger sister, Olivia.

Harrison Cross and Chloe Sinclair had orchestrated a massive social smear campaign against Olivia at the Academy, ruining her reputation and ultimately causing her spiritual core to be crippled during the annual tournament.

"Not this time," Austin murmured, a dangerous, cold glint settling into his eyes as the transport came to a smooth halt directly in front of the Grand Martial Pavilion.

Inside the crowded courtyard of the Pavilion, nineteen-year-old Olivia Vance stood facing a smug circle of older students. Her silver-threaded Academy uniform was immaculate, but her delicate, youthful face was tight with suppressed fury.

Standing right in front of her was Chloe Sinclair, flanked by a few heavy-set martial students from the secondary factions.

"Let's be realistic, Olivia," Chloe purred, loudly enough for the surrounding crowd to hear. "Your brother Austin is a laughingstock. Everyone in high society knows he’s been groveling at Vivienne Sterling's feet for two years, acting like a common servant. With a Prime Heir so thoroughly pathetic, do you really think the Vance Clan's high council is going to protect a nineteen-year-old freshman's position in the upcoming tournament? You should just hand over your advancement slot to someone who deserves it."

Olivia clenched her fists, her spiritual resonance flaring up defensively despite her younger age. "Chloe, watch your tongue. My brother's personal choices do not diminish the strength of the Sovereign Vance Clan. Step aside."

"And if we don't?" One of the senior martial students stepped forward, his aura deliberately pressing down against Olivia's. "Your brother isn't here to save you, little girl. He's probably busy buying Vivienne another designer purse she'll throw in his face."

The surrounding crowd erupted into hushed, mocking laughter. Olivia’s breathing turned shallow as she realized just how isolated she had become because of the rumors.

"Is that so?"

A voice, incredibly deep and carrying the immense, suffocating weight of a Sovereign-level Resonance, cut through the courtyard like a physical blade.

The mocking laughter instantly died in everyone's throats. The oppressive spiritual pressure hitting Olivia vanished completely, replaced by a sudden, freezing chill that made every student in the courtyard stiffen in terror.

The heavy doors of the obsidian transport swung open. Austin stepped out, his tall, commanding frame draped in the heavy, dark coat of the Sovereign Prime Heir. The silver dragon embroidered on his collar seemed to catch the morning light, gleaming with a predatory fierceness.

Every eye in the courtyard widened in absolute shock. This wasn't the submissive, gentle man described in the rumors. The sheer authority radiating from his posture was terrifying, making him look like an ancient deity walking among mortals.

Austin walked forward, his steady footsteps creating a heavy, psychological rhythm that made the senior martial students instinctively take three steps back, their faces turning completely pale.

"B-Brother?" Olivia gasped, her eyes turning wide and instantly welling with tears as she looked up at her twenty-two-year-old sibling.

Austin paused beside his sister, his expression softening into a genuinely warm, protective gaze as he rested a hand briefly on her shoulder. "You've endured enough nonsense, Olivia. Stand behind me."

He then turned his gaze toward Chloe Sinclair. The absolute, freezing indifference in his dark eyes made Chloe’s breath hitch in her throat, her previous arrogance vanishing in an instant.

"Chloe Sinclair," Austin said, his voice level but echoing with a terrifying finality. "I understand you had a lot to say about my status as an 'appendage' last night at the Imperial Lounge. Tell me, does the Sinclair family's secondary business empire possess the strength to survive a total financial embargo from the Vance Clan? Because I can sign that decree before you finish your next breath."

Chloe's face instantly drained of all color, her hands trembling so hard she had to hide them behind her back. She realized with absolute terror that the obedient dog from the rumors was gone.

The true predator of the Vance Clan had finally returned to his throne.
