Chapter 11 –
The forest swallowed Nolan whole. Tall trees pressed in from every side, their branches weaving a canopy so thick that only scattered shards of sunlight made it through. The air smelled of wet dirt and rotting leaves. Every step sank slightly into the damp earth, soft and giving beneath his boots. He walked with a strange calmness, as though the dangers lurking in the shadows were merely background noise. His hand rested on the hilt of his dagger, ready. Then he stopped. A small creature bounced into view, wobbling across a patch of moss like a living drop of jelly. A slime. Its translucent body caught the faint light, shimmering with pale blues and greens. It moved without purpose, without thought, simply existing. Nolan tilted his head, studying it. This was his first real monster. The first thing that stood between him and getting stronger. His fingers tightened around the dagger's handle. A strange mix of excitement and nerves fluttered in his stomach. "System… status." A soft chime echoed in his mind, warm and familiar. [System Activated] [Monster: Slime Lv.1] [Abilities: Immune to magic attacks] Nolan blinked. "Immune to magic… got it." A small, tight smile pulled at his lips. Good thing he'd brought the dagger. Without hesitation, Nolan stepped forward. His body surged with speed, muscles burning pleasantly as he closed the distance in a heartbeat. His dagger flashed through the air, a clean, practiced arc. The slime jolted violently, as if surprised that something would dare hurt it. Then it burst apart, splattering into a puddle of translucent goo that hissed softly against the moss. At its center, a small crystal shard remained, glimmering faintly like a captured star. Nolan lowered his gaze to it, his chest swelling with something warm and unfamiliar. Pride? Relief? He wasn't sure. But it felt good. The system chimed again, brighter this time. [System Activated] [First monster defeated] [+50 EXP] [New Skill Acquired: Dagger Mastery Lv.1] A status window bloomed before his eyes, glowing with soft blue light. [Status Window] Name: Nolan Weldon Age: 18 Class: Mage (4 Element User) Level: 10 (Tier 1) HP: 195/196 Mana: 120/120 Abilities: Fire Lv.5 | Earth Lv.5 | Wind Lv.5 | Water Lv.5 Skill: Dagger Mastery Lv.1 Strength: 20 | Speed: 22 | Agility: 21 | Intelligence: 24 Free Tokens: 12 Nolan rested his chin against his hand, staring at the numbers. Weapon skills… separate from magic. And they could be leveled up too. The possibilities unfolded in his mind like a map. If he trained his dagger, he wouldn't need to rely only on spells. He could fight up close. He could survive. A genuine smile formed on his lips, the first in a long time. "Interesting." He bent down, his fingers brushing the cool surface of the crystal shard before slipping it into his pocket. It felt like proof. Proof that he was doing something right. He continued forward. --- Hours bled together. One slime after another fell beneath his blade. The system notifications became a constant background melody. A chime after chime, each one adding small amounts of experience, each one making him a fraction stronger. The rhythm became mechanical: step, strike, burst, repeat. But with every kill, something else grew inside him. Restlessness. By the time Nolan finally stopped, his breathing had deepened slightly. Sweat clung to his forehead. His dagger was stained faintly from repeated use, and his level had risen to eleven. His stats had improved, and his dagger mastery had reached level three. He should have felt satisfied. Instead, he frowned. "Why is it only slimes…?" His grip tightened around the dagger until his knuckles turned white. Frustration bubbled up from his chest, hot and bitter. He'd been killing mindless blobs for hours, and for what? A few points of experience? A couple of stat increases? "This is too slow." His gaze hardened, jaw clenched so tight his teeth ached. "I didn't come here to play." He needed real enemies. Real danger. Real growth. At that moment, a sudden movement caught his attention. A bird soared high above the trees, its feathers burning with golden light that painted the clouds in shades of amber. Nolan immediately stepped into the shadows beneath a thick oak, lowering his presence as he watched it circle. His heart quickened. Something about that bird felt different. Powerful. "System… analyze that." [System Activated] [Monster: Phoenix Hatchling Lv.23] [Stage: Evolution Phase 2] [Abilities: Red Flame | Blue Flame] Nolan's eyes narrowed, his breath catching in his throat. "Level 23…" That was more than double his level. More than double his strength. If he tried to fight that thing, he would burn. He would die. A bitter taste filled his mouth. Not yet. Not now. "Track it," he said, his voice flat. A glowing map appeared before him, translucent and beautiful. Nolan froze, his frustration melting into awe as the entire forest unfolded in his vision. Scattered lights of different colors dotted the landscape — red, green, blue, gold. Each one represented a monster. Each one, a level. His eyes drank it all in. The forest wasn't just trees and dirt anymore. It was a battlefield. A chessboard. And he could finally see the pieces. A slow grin spread across his face, wild and hungry. "So that's how it works…" His eyes locked onto a dense cluster of green lights, pulsing like a heartbeat near a river. "Goblins." His pulse quickened. Goblins were smart. Goblins fought back. Goblins would give him real experience. "Take me there." The system highlighted a winding path through the trees, and Nolan immediately broke into a run. The wind rushed past him, cool against his skin, as he moved faster than before. His body was adapting, changing, growing into something that belonged in this world. Moments later, he stopped. Ahead of him, tall grass swayed gently in the breeze. He crouched low, moving carefully until he reached the edge of a small ridge. Then he looked down. And froze. Below him was a goblin settlement. Dozens of them moved about in a crude camp — some dragging the corpses, others sharpening crude weapons against stones, while a few hauled prisoners across the dirt. The prisoners were human, females, Nolan realized with a jolt. Their clothes were torn, their faces hollow with fear and exhaustion. The sight hit him like a physical blow. "…Goblins." His voice came out barely above a whisper, but it was filled with something cold and hard. These weren't just monsters. They were killers. They took people. He lowered himself further, pressing his belly against the cool earth, analyzing the area with new intensity. Two guards stood at the entrance, their yellow eyes scanning the tree line. A group of five left the camp, heading deeper into the forest. Another group of ten made their way toward a nearby pond, laughing and shoving each other. Nolan's mind raced. Ten at the pond. Six in the forest. Guards at the gate. And prisoners in the camp. A faint smirk formed on his face, but there was no humor in it. Only purpose. "Let's start small." Nolan moved. Silently. Like a predator who had finally found its prey. He circled around the camp, keeping to the deepest shadows, his boots making no sound against the leaves. Every sense was heightened — the rustle of grass, the distant chatter of goblins, the smell of smoke from their campfires. He reached the pond without being seen. The goblins were distracted, splashing water at each other, laughing in their guttural language, completely unaware that death had arrived. Nolan stepped closer. Closer. One goblin turned, its yellow eyes widening. Too late. The dagger pierced through its throat with a wet sound, and the body dropped without a sound, blood spilling into the clear water in dark ribbons. The others froze, confusion flashing across their ugly faces. But Nolan was already moving. His blade flashed again and again, each strike precise and deadly. One goblin fell, then another, then another. Panic erupted among the remaining few as they turned and tried to run, their screams cut short by steel. "Oh no you don't." Nolan's arm snapped forward, and the dagger flew through the air in a perfect arc, burying itself into the back of one fleeing goblin's skull with a sickening thunk. The remaining goblins scrambled in terror, tripping over each other, only to be stopped as the ground beneath them trembled. Walls of earth shot upward with a thunderous crack, surrounding them completely. Dirt and stone formed a prison ten feet high, smooth and unclimbable. They were trapped. Their screams echoed within the enclosure, desperate and high-pitched, as Nolan walked forward and retrieved his dagger from the dead goblin's head. He paused, glancing at the trembling walls. His hand rose, and flames flickered faintly in his palm, casting dancing shadows across his face. He could burn them. End it quickly. "…No." A darker smile spread across his face, something almost feral gleaming in his eyes. "Let's make this more fun." He leapt over the wall. Screams filled the air — not of battle, but of terror. Steel flashed in the dim light. Blood splattered across the stone walls in thick, dark arcs. Then silence followed. Absolute silence. Moments later, the walls crumbled with a low rumble, collapsing back into the earth from which they'd come. Nolan stepped out, his boots crunching on gravel. His breathing was steady, but his eyes had changed. Colder. Sharper. More dangerous than before. He didn't look at the bodies. Didn't need to. Instead, he lifted his gaze toward the goblin camp in the distance, where the main force waited. Where the prisoners were. A slow grin formed on his blood-stained face. "Now…" His voice dropped, low and dangerous, carrying a promise of violence. "Let's get started."Latest Chapter

Chapter 31. "What was that...?" One of Isabella's knights stared at the dimming light on the horizon, his sword hanging limp at his side, his face pale with awe. The golden radiance had faded to a faint glow, then to nothing, leaving behind only the memory of something impossible. Isabella smiled. It was small, tired, but real. She looked down from her perch in the tree and released a heavy breath, her shoulders dropping, the tension of the day finally leaving her muscles. "We rest here for the night." She jumped from the branch, landing silently on the moss below. "You all better get some rest." --- On the far end of the forest, Nolan collapsed. His body hit the ground like a puppet with its strings cut, his remaining arm flung out, his eyes rolling back. The purple flames had died. The wind had stilled. All that remained was a boy, broken and bleeding, who had given everything he had. "Master!" Xavier ran to him, sliding to his knees, his hands shaking as he checked f
Absolute Light
"Arrrggghhhhh!!!"Xavier's scream tore through the void, raw and broken, as electric shocks crawled over his body like living snakes. He fell to one knee, his head hanging low, his whole body convulsing. Around him, dozens of golden strings lay dead and dull on the black floor, their light extinguished, their magic spent."Another wrong string chosen..." The voice echoed through the darkness, dripping with mockery, with amusement, with the cruel patience of something that had watched mortals fail for centuries. "This sure is entertaining. Which one will you choose next? Another wrong string, or..."Without another thought, Xavier reached out and pulled another. It turned gray in his hand, the light dying before it could even flicker. His eyes widened, horror flooding his chest."Wrong yet again."Electricity surged through Xavier's body, ten times stronger than before. He screamed, his voice cracking, his eyes rolling back until only the whites showed. He collapsed to the ground, twit
The Burn and the Choice
'Chapter 29 The knight kept running, Nolan slung over his shoulder like a sack of grain. Blood soaked through the knight's armor, warm and sticky, painting his back in dark ribbons. Nolan's face was hidden in shadow, his eyes invisible, his body limp and silent. He had not spoken a word since they left the clearing, had not moved, had not breathed in any way that suggested consciousness. The knight ran on, branches whipping his face, roots threatening to trip him with every step. His lungs burned. His legs ached. But he did not stop. Could not stop. "Hey, you..." The voice came from behind him, low and dark and completely wrong. It did not sound like a wounded boy. It sounded like something that had crawled out of a grave and decided to keep walking. The knight paused mid-step, his eyes widening, his whole body freezing in place. "Ma... Master?" "Don't you think you've done enough running around for the day?" Nolan asked, his expression still hidden, his voice carrying an e

Chapter 28 The defense dragged on for over twenty minutes, each second stretching into eternity. Nolan stood alone in the offense, his magic tearing through the darkness, fire and wind and earth exploding from his palms in desperate bursts. Blood sprayed across the forest floor, black and red, painting the leaves in streaks of death. The lizards learned. They adapted. Their attention switched to him alone, abandoning the shielded knights to focus on the mage who burned their kin. They attacked in groups, coordinated, silent, shadows given fangs and claws. His men stepped in, defending him as much as they could, their swords flashing, their shields rising, their bodies becoming walls between their lord and the monsters."Give me your sword."Nolan didn't wait for permission. He snatched the blade from a knight's hand and stormed into the fray, his movements wild, reckless, driven by adrenaline and fear. He slaughtered lizard after lizard, steel meeting scales, magic meeting flesh. But

'Chapter 27 -"Young Master Nolan!!! Are you injured?!"One of the knights rushed over, his boots crunching through leaves, his face pale with worry. He reached out a hand, then stopped, his whole body freezing in place.Nolan slowly turned. His expression was dark and serious, his purple eyes glowing brighter than ever before, two burning embers in the shadow of the forest. He stared at the knight for a long moment, silent, assessing, seeing something the others couldn't.The knight took one step back. Blonde hair. Blue eyes. A silver piercing on his right ear catching the dim light. Young. Maybe seventeen. Scared but trying to hide it."I'm alright. Tell me... what's your name?" Nolan asked, his voice calm, cool, controlled."My name is Xavier, my lord." The knight gave a slight bow, his hand trembling at his side.Nolan's heart skipped a beat. His blood turned cold."It truly is him..." he thought, his mind reeling. "Why is he appearing so early in the book? And in this family's ho
The Shadow Looms
Chapter 26Hours passed at the far north, where Hilda and her army pushed deeper into the forest. They had cleared six stages of different beasts, each one more vicious than the last. Blood painted their armor in streaks of green, black, and crimson. Their swords dulled. Their shields cracked. But they kept moving."We stop here for now."Hilda stood at the edge of a small clearing, her eyes scanning the darkness between the trees. The forest ahead seemed to breathe, its branches swaying without wind, its roots trembling with something buried deep beneath the earth. Her men dropped to the ground, gasping, their bodies hitting the dirt with exhausted thuds."Thank the heavens above... I thought we were still going." One knight sprawled on his back, staring at the canopy, his chest heaving. Others relaxed against tree trunks, their armor clinking softly, their faces pale beneath the grime."Eat up and drink water. Tend the wounded. We head out in an hour's time." Hilda's voice was flat,
