Chapter 10: The Redhorn Town and the first trouble

When Fenrir said he'd bring me tons of what he hunts, he didn't joke. There were huge deer, snakes, birds, bears, and oversized ostriches. The other pilled carcasses were pig-like creatures with two hands and feet. I don't know what it is, but I have a hint of what they were. The last pile was a huge wild boar with different skin colors and tusks.

"You can sell what we don't need, but the meat will be ours," Fenrir said before lazily riding on the carriage as Hel, and I loaded the carcasses inside my storage box.

After that, we finally started to move again.

After a few days of traveling, we finally made it!

It took us forever, but we finally arrived at Redhorn Town. As we approached the town, I noticed a watch tower that must have been used for scouting out intruders. We got to the entrance of the town and were stopped by guards.

"Identification papers, please," One of the guards asked me.

"I'm sorry, but I don't have any. I only got some permits here from the village chief," I replied, giving him the paper.

The guard took it and read it. He then ordered two of his comrades to check our carriage. The three of us exited the carriage and allowed them to search it. Seeing that we only had some sweet flowers and Mint plants, they cleared us to the guard, who read the permission letter.

"Follow me. I'll give you and your company a temporary identification card."

Once we were cleared of suspicions, we had to give our information about us for identification papers, so I talked most. After about twenty minutes of writing, our identification papers were complete.

"By the way, it is unusual for us to ask for any identification card," the guard said.

"Huh? Why is that?" I asked him, confused.

"Recently, the King ordered us to ensure the nation's safety. The rumor about the slain dragon spread quickly, and the King feared that someone might have freed Fenrir and Hel out of the castle the dragon guarded."

My conscience kicked in. I was the one who killed the dragon and also freed Fenrir and Hel, and they were standing in front of the guard right now.

"Uhm, was it dangerous?"

The guard sighed.

"Yes. The King feared if this news reached our Celestial Nigiri, something might happen," he replied.

I secretly looked at Fenrir and Hel. Thank goodness, their eyes returned to normal, and it seemed like staying here being held by the guards bored them.

"Is that bad news?"

"It is," the guard replied. "Nigiri loathed Hel, and if she learned about this, she might be awakened from her deep slumber and confront her," he added. "Anyways, these papers are used for entry inside towns and cities. They are very valuable, and if lost, you can't enter any towns and cities, and it costs one hundred gold coins to get one," he informed us.

What the heck? Why is it so expensive!?

"Thank you for telling us, sir," I thanked the guard.

"Don't mention it. Oh yeah, since you're trying to become a merchant, I recommend you head to Zenzer City after exploring this town. A merchant guild allows you to register to become an official merchant. Some merchants didn't register, but some are what you call black market dealers. Don't be one of those guys."

That last comment was very helpful…I guess?

I realized this world also has a black market, just like my old world. Anyway, once we got our papers, we soon explored the town. After buying some stuff that Hel wanted, we headed to Zenzer City.

I planned to become a merchant and use my magic to make money, or I would purchase something in the door and sell it here. I still have gold coins in my safe, but I'd like to earn money alone.

The majority of that gold has been spent on food and some stuff for Fenrir and Hel. I had to earn first and buy some ingredients to make potions and materials for my future business.

I'm still nervous because being a merchant means that people will want to steal your merchandise if you're traveling around selling products. It is good that I have Fenrir and Hel to keep enemies from attacking me.

Fenrir's left shoulder has a claw mark, and the smell of metallic liquid didn't escape from my nose. I could see him grunting every time he carried something on his shoulder.

What happens? I should check it out and see how deep the cut had been.

"Tonight, we're not going to sleep inside the carriage. I'll find us some Inn and check what happened to your shoulder, Fenrir," I said.

I was considering entering the Suzie, which I named the door I purchased to buy some first aid kit when I bumped into a man.

"Hey! Watch it, punk!" The man I bumped into sneered at me.

He looked to be in his thirties, had a tan skin tone, a light brown beard, and looked like he had just gotten out of a bar fight because he had a black eye and smelled alcohol.

"S-sorry, Sir. I wasn't paying attention," I apologized to him.

"Hah? Then pay more attention, punk!" He then grabbed me while slightly losing his balance.

"U-um, Sir? Could you please let go of me?" I asked politely, but I felt really nervous.

"Not until you compensate for bumping into me."

Even if his drunk, I'm not paying him back.

"Look, Sir; I merely bumped into you. I don't think paying for that is necessary," I tried reasoning with him.

"N-not a chance! Y-you want me to let you go, and then I need you to pay up!"

After leaning back, I thought he was about to fall over, but he regained his composure. This is ridiculous.

"Ace," I called for help.

Fenrir a.k.a Ace, understood and walked up to help me. He grabbed the drunkard's arm that was holding me and pulled it off my shirt.

"Hey! What's the big idea!?" The drunkard was getting furious now.

"My master said to let him go. So let him go," he said.

The man attempted to punch Fenrir, which was a fatal error on the man's side. But before the punch landed on Fenrir's face, the man let go of my shirt as he was sent flying a few meters away from me.

After that, I saw Hel standing beside the man and casually looking at her nails.
