Chapter 9: Defensive Spell: Memory Erase

When everything was ready, we left the village and headed to Redhorn Town, the closest town to this village. I acquired a carriage which I bought at a cheap price. It was broken, but I fixed it and upgraded it to last longer.

A storage box was convenient for the horses and me since only the three of us were riding on them, and didn't weigh too much.

During the trip to Redhorn, we decided to stop for the night and to prepare our dinner.

"What's for our dinner?" Fenrir asked if he saw me preparing the folded table, I had pulled from the storage box.

"Oven-cooked pork belly," I told him.

"Woah! Sounds tasty. How long will the cooking process take? I'm starving," he said.

I could practically see saliva on his mouth.

"I don't know. The usual pork in my world usually takes an hour to cook, but I don't know about the boar's pork here," I replied, pulling off the oven I replicated from Earth's typical oven. I upgraded it a bit, and instead of plugging it into any electric outlet, I fused it with electro slime I bought from a slime store back in the village.

All I have to do is to turn it on, and it will start to heat on its own. I had to preheat it before wrapping my overnight marinated red boar's pork in an aluminum foil wrapper. I had to marinate with seasonings I bought from the door overnight, ensuring the seasoning penetrated the pork.

I set the alarm clock for one hour and a half while I bathe the two horses beside the river we are in.

"Oi, we're going out a bit. Ensure the food is cooked when we're back," Fenrir said before pushing himself up.

"Where are you going?"

"We're going to take care of something. Rest assured, and we'll be back before the food gets cold, Master," Hel said properly, unlike Fenrir.

"Alright," I replied and focused on scrubbing my horse's back.

After an hour and a half, I prepared the table for our dinner and arranged everything when Fenrir and Hel tossed at least ten men a few meters away.

"Oh?" I said and was a little bit startled.

"We sensed their presence starting when we left the castle gates. We thought it was just a coincidence, but they followed us here, trying to sneak around. They used camouflaging spells," Fenrir said.

All those tied men were dressed in leather and armor and had weapons. They can't be an adventurer considering how menacing they look, so I'll have to guess they were bandits.

I then walked to the bandits.

"Which one of you is the leader?" I asked them.

"What is it to you, brat?!" one of them barked at me.

"I'll take a hunch and guess that the leader is you, correct?"

"So, what if I am?" he rudely asked me.

"All I want to ask is why you were targeting us. My two bodyguards over here were able to pick up you guys trying to sneak attack us, so I want to know your reason."

The bandits stayed quiet. I was losing my patience and about to ask Fenrir to make him speak, but he decided to speak.

"We have been guarding the lone castle for years. We heard rumors about it being full of treasures but guarded by a dragon. We planned to kill the dragon for years, but when we came back, we saw you leaving with a man and a woman. We don't know how you killed the dragon, but we knew those two over there were Fenrir and Hel. I can tell it just by their eyes. Yellow eyeballs, black pupils, definitely Fenrir. Violet eye balls Green and slit eye pupils, that Hel for you," the leader said.

"Oho? You've searched about us, huh, human?" Hel said before standing up and walking towards the bandits.

"Not only did you free the two famous evils, but you also took all the treasure from the castle," he added, not minding what Hel said.

"Should I kill them, Master? He is disrespecting you," Hel said.

Hearing this, I saw all the bandits' faces go pale. Obviously, they didn't want to die yet.

"I'll handle it," I told her and used my (Memory Erase) on them so that they wouldn't remember us and (Sleep) so they were unconscious.

After that, Fenrir used the carriage to dump the unconscious bodies on the side of the roads and proceeded to eat dinner.

As always, Fenrir ate the most while Hel and I enjoyed our portion and drank tea after.

On our way the following day, I picked some herbs, like sweet flowers and Mint plants, to trade. I cannot depend on my savings. I need to find some goods and sell them. We will be out of meat soon, which has been bothering me.

"We're running out of meat, guys. And if we don't do anything, we will go vegetarian," I told them. "And we cannot afford to spend our gold coins anymore. Soon we'll be going out of gold coin, too," I added.

"You know we could hunt some high-ranking monsters here for meat, and we can sell the parts we don't need," Hel said. "And since Fenrir has a huge appetite for food, he's the one who has to hunt."

"What? Why me?" Fenrir asked.

Hel arched her brows at him.

"You overeat. So, since you're a big eater, you have to hunt our food," she said.

"Ugh!"

Fenrir stood up and prepared himself.

"Okay, I'll hunt but make sure your storage box will fit everything I'll hunt," he said before disappearing suddenly.

"Do you think he'll be alright?" I asked Hel as soon as Fenrir disappeared.

"Don't worry about him; he will be fine. No one dared to fight him when he was still in his wolf form. Everyone feared him back in the day," she said while coming to her long red hair.

"He's that badass?"

"Yeah. So, let's wait for Fenrir"
