Holly's face had drained of color immediately, her eyes frozen on Damien's as if struggling to comprehend the fact that the man she thought she knew wasn’t who she thought but the legendary warrior she had heard stories about, now standing before her.
She stood still like a statue, oblivious to the crowd bumping into her and trying to move her aside, her gaze piercing as deep as into Damien's soul. Her expression showed a mix of shock, confusion, and hurt, as if she couldn't fathom why he had kept this extraordinary aspect of himself hidden from her for so long.
How could she not have known? They lived together and all this while and she didn’t find out? Holly couldn’t believe it. Her lips parted as she tried to speak, but no sound emerged, her voice caught in the flood of her emotions.
Damien smirked at her and immediately turned away from her, leaving Holly stunned and her mind reeling with thoughts, her expression still a clear picture of confusion and hurt that she felt.
Damien quickly slid back into the crowd with ease, ignoring her presence as he continued shaking hands, signing autographs, and sharing warm smiles with his devoted followers.
Thirty minutes passed quickly, the festivities beginning to end as the crowd's enthusiasm slowly dissipated and they began to take the festivities into the streets. Damien immediately made his way back toward the colosseum, eager to meet with the other heads and dignitaries and discuss the pressing matters that had brought them all together.
Just as he reached the entrance, a subtle tug on his shirt stopped him from moving any further, and Damien immediately turned around, curiosity sparked by the unexpected interruption, only to find Holly standing before him with her eyes filled with tears that desperately fought to come out.
Her eyes locked onto his, determined and unwavering, as if refusing to let him escape without a confrontation, without an explanation for why he didn’t tell her his true identity but Damien's security team immediately moved to remove Holly, their hands reaching for her arms, but Damien quickly waved them off with a curt gesture.
"It’s okay. Let her speak," he said, his voice low and even.
The guards hesitated and then they stepped back, positioning themselves to the side but close enough to hear whatever it was Holly had to say, their eyes fixed on her, ready to intervene at a moment should anything happen.
Holly's gaze never wavered from Damien's face, her voice laced with emotion as she asked,
"Why didn't you ever tell me who you were?" The tears she tried to hold back now fell freely.
Damien's expression shifted as he scoffed, a hint of irritation creeping into his face. He rolled his eyes, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
"Oh, I tried, Holly," he said firmly.
"But your greed didn't allow you to wait for even a day."
Holly's face crumpled into a frown, her body sagging as she fell to her knees and her hands grasping for Damien's feet for forgiveness. If it were a week ago, Damien’s heart would have ached seeing her in that state but now, after being insulted by her and that joke of a lover, he didn’t care for her at all.
"Please, Damien," she begged, her voice trembling with desperation.
"Take me back. I was wrong, so wrong. I didn't know what I was doing." She cried.
Tears streamed down her face, her words pouring out hastily. Now Damien was rich and important, she had to get him back. Holly thought that deep down Damien still loved her and that all she had to do was beg him long enough to pity her.
"It was Jeremy. He seduced me, manipulated me. He told me to leave you, to forget about you. He promised me things I have realized now that I don’t need." She continued.
Her hands clasped together as she begged.
"I was blind, Damien. Blind and foolish. But I see now. I see the truth." She cried.
Holly's eyes, red-rimmed and pleading, gazed up at Damien.
"Forgive me," she whispered.
"Give me another chance." She yelled, her desperation evident.
More words spilled out from Holly’s mouth in a desperate bid for forgiveness as she tried to get Damien to pity and take her back. Her voice barely above a whisper as she confessed a fake reason behind her betrayal, trying to see if Damien would believe her.
"I was too afraid, Damien," she admitted, her eyes welling up with tears, "afraid of Jeremy’s immense power and the unpredictable nature. When he threatened me, I was afraid that if I stayed with you, I would become entangled in a lot of danger that I couldn't escape, afraid that he would kill you." She spat.
Damien's gaze locked onto hers, his eyes narrowing slightly as he processed her lies. He chuckled then, a low, husky sound that sent a shiver down Holly's spine. It was obvious that he wasn’t buying her sob story.
"Really?" he asked, his tone laced with dry amusement and a touch of sarcasm,
"Do I look dumb to you, Holly, foolish enough to believe anything that comes out from your mouth?" He asked, his anger rising slowly as he watched her expression falter.
Holly's eyes, brimming with tears, locked onto Damien's, her face etched with desperation as she slowly raised her head. She pleaded with him, her voice cracking due to the swarm of fake emotions she felt while she tried to get more words out. Her hands wrapped around his knees, clinging to him with a fierce determination but Damien's resolve remained unshaken, his mind was made up.
He grasped her wrists, his fingers closing around them tightly as he pulled them off his body.
"Get off me." he commanded, his voice firm.
"Just stop, Holly." He continued.
He pushed her off and immediately took a few steps away from her, so she couldn’t grab on to him again.
"After what you did, there is nothing left between us, and there never will be." Damien declared.
His words cut through the air, final and unyielding, Holly felt her hopes immediately get dashed.
"Ever," he emphasized.
A single word hung between them.
A stark reminder that their relationship was broken beyond repair because of her greed.
After that, Damien turned around, his back to Holly, and then he began to walk away, leaving her still on her knees but then he suddenly stopped in his tracks, his footsteps halting abruptly as he reconsidered his departure. He turned back to face her, his eyes cold and unyielding, his expression a stern warning that left no room for pity.
"The next time you try this nonsense," he warned, his voice firm and steady, each word carefully chosen to convey the gravity of his threat.
"I'll make sure to disgrace you publicly," he continued, his tone unwavering, "and everyone will know the truth about your deceitful ways." He said.
The threat hung in the air, heavy with consequence, and Holly felt its weight settle upon as she clutched her chest with her hands.
Damien's gaze lingered on Holly's face, as if remembering the memory of the time they spent together and the life he planned for her after revealing his true identity. He quickly shook his head and looked away, sending the vile thoughts away. Then, with a final glare, he turned and walked away, leaving Holly shattered and humiliated in the midst of the colosseum.
“You’ll regret this Damien. I swear it.” Holly screamed after him, not caring to win him over any more but Damien paid her no mind.As he walked away, carefully followed by his security team, a soft smile spread across his face as he savored the satisfaction of having put Holly firmly in her place. He had planned to end it all here but after her lack of remorse. After she threatened him, he was not going to let that slide. She had the last say. At least for now; the big blow was still yet to come. She would regret ever messing with him. All he needed to do was wait.

Chapter 2: Surprises
Hours had gone by after Holly had ripped Damien’s heart out of his chest and by that time, he was crest-fallen. It was 7:11 am in the morning, a handful of hours after the confrontation, when Damien chose to check his phone only to come across a message that was left by his assistant hours earlier. He hadn't been able to fall asleep and chose to just sit on his side of the bed and stare at the wall. He wanted to ignore it but when his phone rang again, he gripped it loosely and answered the call. “Good morning, Lord Damien. Happy one year anniversary to you and your wife Holly. I hope that I haven’t caught you at a bad time, but I was hoping that I could stop by your home later to drop off all the gifts that the generals and royals procured for your coming out to your wife. I have recorded about thirty gifts so far and would be willing to keep the rest for when you and your wife arrive at the villa for the celebration. The empire’s greatest would like to celebrate you.
