Turning Point

“David, come with me,” said the mother-in-law. David was confused but kept his feet following his mother-in-law from behind. Apparently headed for the kitchen.

“Now tell me. What other trouble are you doing, huh?” she asked in a very annoyed tone.

“I’m not causing any trouble, mother.”

“Then who are they, huh?! There’s no way they suddenly came here. With you? Who are you, huh?! Don’t lie to me. They’re definitely not your friends. I know that you have absolutely no friends here. You’re just a stranger who came out of nowhere and got to know my daughter and you framed her to marry you so you could stay here. You’re just a parasite. So it’s very unlikely that you have friends as cool as them,” said her mother-in-law breathlessly because she spoke in one breath. Her condescending look was clear in David’s eyes.

David clenched his fists. “Are you going to keep accusing me like that?” David asked. His face was down. For some reason, this time, he felt like he really wanted to fight back. What happened to him? Was it because of the anger he felt after seeing his wife’s infidelity, he became more emotional like this?

The mother-in-law seemed surprised to hear David’s slightly raised tone. Usually this man will not fight and is very willing to accept all the accusations, whether they are true or false. But this time was different.

“Can you repeat? What did you say? You’ve dared to fight now, huh?!” David was silent. His fists grew stronger. Actually, the reason David was always silent and resigned when his mother-in-law accused him was because of Lily. Of course, because David loves Lily. When he came to this city, he brought nothing, only his tired body and broken heart. David was devastated. He lost everything. His loved ones, wealth, power. Until finally he met Lily. In the past, Lily was so gentle and kind to him. Lily didn’t mistreat him. She understood that he needed that tenderness and affection. That’s what makes David, little by little, forgot the feeling of loss even though only a little can be cured. But over time, his wife changed. Lily suddenly mistreated him. Even so, love has already grown in David’s heart. That’s the only thing that makes him stay in this house, even though he gets insulted every day, either from his mother-in-law or his own wife. David only hoped that one day they could change and accept him. Maybe with him returning to being the head of the mafia, all that can happen.

“Why are you silent, huh?! Your braveness had disappeared?! You must be afraid that I’ll throw you out of this house, right?! You’re a useless brat!”

David didn’t know that Bruno followed him. He couldn’t bear to see his boss being insulted so badly by his mother-in-law. But it seems, right now, his boss doesn’t want to be disturbed. So, he will just wait. If it was too much, he would come over and explain everything. He was absolutely sure, if his boss’ mother-in-law knew that David was very rich and had high power, his mother-in-law’s character would immediately change 180 degrees. Just like what happened to Lily.

“Do you know if Lily went with Jack?” asked David at last. He looked at his mother-in-law with a sad look.

“Huh! Apparently, because of this, you dared to argue with me? What’s the matter, huh? Why if Lily went with Jack? Trouble for you?”

“She’s my wife. Why did you let her date another man? Doesn’t that mean Lily is having an affair?”

The mother-in-law snorted and then smirked. “David oh David. Listen to this carefully,” she said as she pressed against David’s chest with her index finger firmly enough.

“I’ve seen my daughter suffer so much while married to you. You’re not self-conscious, aren’t you? You’re poor, David! Poor! Isn’t that enough for you to think that your wife needs another man to be happy?!” David’s body was slightly pushed back.

“So, yes. I purposely allowed Jack to take Lily away. I even asked Jack to come here myself. I’m happy to welcome him. Besides, it’s Lily’s birthday. Jack told me that he had prepared a surprise for my daughter. That’s good, right? It’s rare for Lily to get luxuries because you can’t give her that! So don’t complain too much! Now, tell me, what can you do for Lily, hm? On her birthday, you didn’t even bring anything home! You’re actually causing a ruckus! It’s just a headache! Where is it? You said you’d bring food supplies for us. Look, you broke your promise. What did you use the money Jack gave you? Spoiled yourself? Just for your fun, huh? Oh, Jesus. What punishment are you giving me and my daughter by bringing in this useless man? I am tired. Can’t you just make him go away?”

Of course, David felt a deep heartache hearing every word that came out of her father-in-law’s lips. Why does she have no heart toward him?

“Where’s David?!” The screams coming from the hall made David, Bruno, and the mother-in-law look in the same direction.

“That’s Lily’s voice,” said the mother-in-law.

“Why is she screaming your name? Look, tsk! You must have messed up her date with Jack, right? I thought so! You’re such a pain!”

SLAP!

Bruno was very surprised when his boss was slapped.

‘Shit!’

So did David.

“David!” There’s Lily come. She looked alternately at her mother and husband, who were dumbfounded while touching his cheek, which had just been slapped so hard that it turned red. Lily stared in surprise.

“David.” She walked quickly to her husband.

“Lily. Let me teach this pis a lesson. He must have messed up your date with Jack, right? Huh! Must be a messy.”

Lily looked at her mother. “Mom. What did you say? And what is this? Did you just slap David?”

“David? Are you all right?” Lily asked, looking anxiously about her husband’s condition. But what David did was take some distance from Lily. He’s still disappointed. This is, of course, very surprising to the mother-in-law. Why was Lily being so kind and caring to David? Even though she had gone to great lengths to make Lily aware of and hated David.

“Lily, what’s wrong with you? You forgot your husband is poor? How was your date with Jack?”

Lily looked at her mother. “Mother, listen to me carefully. From now on. Never insult my husband again. You have no right to do that.”

“W-what’s wrong with you? You! What are you doing to my daughter, huh? You’re threatening her, right?!”

“It’s up to you what you want to say. I’m too lazy to talk about this. I have important business to attend to.” As David was about to leave, Lily grabbed his arm. Then did something David had never expected.

Thud!

Lily Kneeled in front of David, holding his leg, then she kissed David’s leg. “Please, forgive me. I know I was wrong, David. Won’t you forgive me?”

David looked at Lily, who was sobbing. ‘Is the lesson I gave her enough?’

“Lily! What are you doing?! Get up quickly! You don’t deserve to kneel at your poor husband!”
