Everyone’s head turned at once to see who had spoken. All eyes landed on the doorway, where a man stood tall and proud. He was dressed in the official robes worn by the ministers of the court. The tall figure stepped into view and his presence sliced through the room like a cold blade.

It was Elias.

The way his robes looked told everyone exactly how important he was. He wore deep violet robes lined with silver, the kind only the top ministers in Drakmont were allowed to wear. The shining crest on his chest left no room for doubt. The moment he stepped into the room, the mood changed. Conversations stopped. Even the other ministers straightened up.

Someone whispered, “Elias… the Minister of Court Rights.”

And just like that, the air grew heavy. Elias wasn’t some random official, he was the man in charge of every event, gathering, performance, or important visitor that came to Drakmont. If any event happened in that court, it had to go through him. Whatever he said was law because the r

  • 071. Let’s Attend a Party, Shall we?

While Eleanor clung to Asher’s arm, she completely went into a daze. It was like she was trapped in some awful memory Stephen’s words had dragged her back into.Morgana who was by the door like a guard dog didn’t take her eyes off Stephen as he left. Her fingers twitched near the hilt of her sword as she asked, itchy for permission, “Want me to go after him, General?”Asher opened his mouth to answer, but before he could speak, a weak, raspy voice broke through the thick silence.“…Did they come back… to torment her again?”The room froze. Slowly, all of them turned their eyes toward the bed where the sound had come from. There lay Thomas, Asher’s father, frail, pale, and sickly, but his half-lidded eyes were open now, and though his voice was weak, it carried a heavy weight. He wasn’t asking for no reason… he knew.At the sound of his voice, Eleanor suddenly snapped out of her daze. She straightened in Asher’s hold, hurriedly wiped her face and fixed her expression like nothing had h

  • 070. Maternal Grudges

At Stephen’s words, Asher’s stare stayed hard on him. He was boiling and fuming now but he tried to suppress the anger burning in him.“And what kind of nuisance are you?” he shot back coldly in a voice filled with disgust.Stephen’s fake smile cracked and his brows pulled together. “What?!” he yelled. That was clearly a reply from Asher to this Stephen from only God’s know where. It was clearly a rude one to show his sharp distaste of him. Even Eleanor’s eyes widened and the look on her face says it all. It was like she couldn’t believe what she was hearing. But Asher wasn’t done. “You know what?” he started again. Though his tone was low and steady, his anger was clear in every word.“Since I came back from war, I’ve been meeting all kinds of people… nuisances, to be honest. The kind of people who made my parents suffer when they were alone. The kind of people who cheated on me while I was away. The ones who tried to humiliate me, step on me, and treat me like trash in every possib

  • 069. A New Lowlife

The next morning, Morgana was walking beside Asher down the hospital hallway with her voice full of excitement.“You should’ve seen how the party ended last night, General,” she said, grinning. “Janine ended up performing instead of Alesha. Can you believe that? And she killed it. The whole place went silent when she started, then boom, everyone was drawn in.”Asher gave a small nod but his eyes were still looking ahead.“That’s good,” he said, but Morgana kept going and her smile got even wider.“And guess what, General, the ruler himself asked Janine to perform in the court. Directly. No need to go through the Ministry of Rites anymore. She’ll be performing for him alone. That’s huge! Her rank’s going to shoot up.”“That’s nice,” Asher replied, sounding calm, though Morgana caught the little spark of approval in his expression. She let out a small sigh as she realized his thoughts were somewhere else but she decided to drop one last update.“Oh, and I heard this morning, Elias repor

He could still remember the exact day the letter arrived and how he got the message that shattered him.His uncle, his father’s brother, the man who helped raise him was dead. He died “Died mysteriously in his chamber,” the letter had read.He had been crushed because the man wasn’t just family, he was one of the few people in his life who made things feel normal.
