Lewis froze in shock, how could it be? He had gone to prison in place of her brother so that he could marry her as promised by her family so what was this he was hearing?

“What do you mean?” Lewis was shocked by his words.

He remembered what Allison had promised him before he was jailed.

He wondered if she truly ended up with Zared, Allison hated Zared so much she couldn't breath the same air as him, so how could she marry him

Lewis felt a sharp pain in his chest trying not to believe this was true, staring down at Frank and seeing the fear in his eyes, he could tell he wasn't lying.

Slowly lost in his thoughts, Frank continued to speak. “It's known that she was forced to marry him, they've been married close to a year now.” Frank explained.

This explained why Allison had not visited him all this time and here he was a little angry that she forgot him as soon as he was sent to prison. Clenching his fists, his heart was filled with anger and betrayal.

After his sacrifice, they had dared give his woman to someone else?

He remained silent and without wasting any more time, walked out immediately and made his way to the Halter family’s home, he needed to hear from the horse’s mouth.

Getting there took him less than an hour, staring at the house, it was still as beautiful as ever… no it was more beautiful than he had previously known it to be.

Of course it’s the Halter home, they had to be exquisite unlike his home that was now destroyed.

Walking in, he could  tell they were all gathered around, scent of food wafted in the air as they engaged in small talks, laughing and eating.

Busting the door open, they turned to look at Lewis, silence filled the air and their faces filled with surprise, they hadn’t expected him to be out so soon.

Everyone glanced at him in disgust, their gazes piercing on him.

Staring back at them, his eyes danced around each one in search of Allison but he couldn’t find her.

Damon Halter chuckled mockingly at Lewis. “So you really dared to show your face to this family? You’re a criminal who has just been released from prison.”Damon didn’t seize the chance to humiliate Lewis.

“How dare a criminal like you enter the Halter home? Who let you in?”

“What a shameless fool.”

Gazing at his appearance, they became even more disgusted by him, he looked no better than a beggar who had come to take leftovers from their plates.

“Have you lost your mind? Would you rather I call the cops on you?.” Duane, Allison’s uncle, insulted him.

“What are the cops even doing? They should keep tabs on criminals like you! You shouldn’t be let loose.” Allison's mother Veronica chipped in.

Lewis remained calm, he didn’t care what they say to him, he was only here for one purpose, to know if Allison was indeed married to that bastard Zared.

“Where is Allison?” Lewis spoke calmly at first but after realizing they didn’t need to be talked to so calmly he raised his voice. “Where is Allison!”

“A criminal met with my daughter? No way!” Veronica glared at Lewis, everyone bursting out in laughter. “Don’t even dream about it.”

“My daughter can’t be seen with a criminal.” Arthur said, the laughter in the room got worse, Lewis was bewildered by his words. He was the least expected person to speak to him in such a manner.

He had given up two years of his life just to cover up his son’s mess and he talked to him this way?

“You shouldn’t even set foot in this house! What do you think people would say if they saw you in here?” Arthur pointed towards the door. “Leave!”

Lewis clenched his fists in anger, how could someone he had looked up to, trusted and even be loyal to treat him in such a manner of disrespect?

He couldn’t take this!

“I believe you haven’t forgotten about the incident two years ago.” Lewis reminds him. “You really have no regard to who saved you?”

Arthur clenched his jaw, angry at Lewis’ words. “How dare you say that? Everyone here knows you did it! Are you a criminal trying to pin it on me? Why then did you plead guilty in court?”

“Get out or I will have you kicked out!” Veronica threatened.

Lewis had no intention of leaving just yet, he was still rooted to his spot, waiting for Allison.”

Arthur scoffed. “She’s a high value woman who can’t settle for less and is worthy of a man who can really take care of her and from a respectable home, you on the other hand are the opposite.” Arthur spat arrogantly.

“Don’t you know how things work? A criminal like you has no business marrying the daughter of a respected family like ours.” Veronica added. “You decided to be foolish and become a criminal, so you don’t need her in your life anymore.”

Hearing their words hurt his ears, their loud screeching made his anger even more unbearable to hold in. Only Allison could make him understand what was going on. “I ask again, where is Allison?”

Heels clicking came from the main door, the scent of a distinctive perfume hot Lewis’s nose. He could immediately tell who it was.

Allison.

Turning around, moving his eyes to the door as it opens he caught Allison walk in, her hand twisted in the hands of another man… Zared.

Lewis was stunned, his hands clenched into fists, his anger increasing.

The period he had spent in prison, all those nights he stayed awake restlessly thinking about Allison and when he would be able to marry her.

Seeing her right now made him fall in love all over again but seeing her in the hands of another man was like an arrow stabbed into his heart.

Allison stopped in her tracks, stunned to see Lewis, her heart raced and her mind blank, she stuttered over her inaudible words, hoping she wasn’t hallucinating.

How could it not be that the man who was feared was standing before her? She had made sure to take her medication so why was she seeing things? She had been told that Lewis was killed in prison after engaging in a fearsome fight and had been shot by one of the prison guards.

This was a lie!

Feeling a sense of betrayal, she clenched her jaw, staring at her father in disappointment and back at Zared, losing the smile that once spread across her lips.

Her father knew how much she loved Lewis and had planned to tear them apart so she could marry Zared.

She could tell he plotted this with Zared, her Lewis was still very much alive and had come here.

“Lewis?” She gently let out his name in a murmur.

Taking her hands out Zared’s firm grip but he held on tightly to her before she could break away, she still tried to break free, staring up at Zared, he glared down at her.

Looking back at Lewis tears rolled down her cheeks, anger was notable in Lewis’ face as he stared back at her. “You married the bastard heh?” He nudged his head at Zared.

Allison was quiet and didn’t know how to respond, she couldn’t explain anything to him right now without breaking down in tears completely.

Opening her mouth to say something Zared took the chance to wrap his hands around her waist, taking her by surprise, before she could get away from him Zared said. “Aren’t you going to tell him baby?

Looking back at Lewis, she was hesitant to say anything, she had betrayed him and didn’t know how to face him. “It’s true that I’m married to him.” She blurted the words out in regret, turning her face in shame.

“And she’s carrying our first child.”
