Antonio was laughing too loudly at a joke no one found funny, his voice slurring at the edges. The people around him tolerated him out of habit, not respect.

“Another one,” he muttered to the waiter, shoving the empty glass forward.

The waiter hesitated, glancing briefly at the host for approval before pouring him another drink. Antonio raised the glass to his lips with a shaky hand, his fingers trembling slightly. From across the room, through the haze of smoke and alcohol, he saw her.

At first, it didn’t register. The outline familiar yet impossible. The sleek black dress, the way she carried herself, the cold calm of her eyes. He blinked hard, rubbed his face, and blinked again.

No. It couldn’t be.

“Jesus Christ…” he whispered under his breath. “No… no, no, no.”

He stood up so suddenly that the chair scraped loudly against the marble floor. Heads turned. Antonio didn’t notice. His gaze was fixed on the woman approaching him. He stumbled backward, nearly tripping over his own feet.

  • A London Surprise

Emerald sat cross-legged on the couch, eyes glued to her tablet, half-listening to Lisa and Amber chatting about brunch. Then a sudden knock echoed through the hallway.Amber smiled knowingly. “He’s here,” she murmured under her breath as she rose to open the door.Lisa frowned. “Who’s here?”Amber only smirked. “You’ll see.”The door opened, and there stood Xavier, travel-worn yet effortlessly striking in his navy coat and calm composure. The second Lisa saw him, her teacup nearly slipped from her hand.“Xavier?” she gasped. “What...how...?”He grinned. “Surprise.”Emerald’s tablet flew onto the couch as she jumped up and ran straight into his arms. “Uncle Xavier!” she squealed. “You didn’t even tell us you were coming! You’re bad at surprises but this one’s so good!”Xavier laughed and spun her around lightly before setting her down. “You’ve grown a foot taller in just a few weeks, haven’t you?”Emerald giggled. “Maybe it’s the London air. Or the food. Or Amber’s fancy milk.”Amber

  • No More Targets

Celeste sat propped on the bed, wrists still bound, a bruise blooming at her temple. Antonio lounged in an armchair, one leg thrown over the other, watching her like a man studying a wound.“You’ve gotten fat” Antonio said, casually. “You’ve been eating well. Look at you, all puffed up like a queen.”Celeste’s lip curled. “You weren’t the one buying the food, were you? Don’t flatter yourself. Xavier’s men brought provisions. If anyone’s keeping me fat, it’s him, not you.”Antonio’s smirk widened. “Ah, so now it’s Xavier’s fault. Poor boy. He funds the hospitality and still thinks he can buy mercy with canned peaches.”“You forget how long I’ve known how to survive,” Celeste said. “Food doesn’t make me soft. Your delusions do.”Antonio leaned forward. “Delusions? My delusions are what kept me alive. My delusions put me at the table when a lot of people starved. You should be grateful I haven’t had you killed already.”Celeste’s eyes flashed. “Killing me would be too easy. Teacher would

  • The Third Betrayal

The city lights of New York bled through the wide glass windows, reflecting off Teacher’s face as he stood still with his hands clasped behind him, jaw tight, the veins in his neck visible beneath his skin. Behind him, two of his men shifted uneasily, their heads lowered like schoolboys caught in the act.“Say that again,” Teacher’s voice was calm, too calm for a man filled with rage. The first man, a bulky fellow with a scar running across his chin, swallowed hard. “Sir… we searched everywhere, every location you listed. The penthouse, the hotel suite, even the safehouse in Brooklyn. No one’s seen Amber, Lisa, or the little girl. It’s like they vanished.”Teacher didn’t move. He kept his back to them, staring at the city. His reflection in the glass was rigid, unreadable. “And the airports?” he asked finally. “Private terminals. Docks. Charter services. You checked them all?”The second man, slimmer and younger, nodded nervously. “Yes, sir. We checked. Nothing. No flight manifests, n

  • The Gift of Connection

The sun was setting over Amber’s vast London estate when the black car pulled through the iron gates. The evening breeze carried a calm scent of lavender and freshly cut grass. Lisa leaned her head against the seat, exhausted but smiling faintly. The hospital visit had been longer than expected.Amber sighed softly beside her, removing her sunglasses and tucking them into her purse. “I can’t believe Matteo almost passed out when the doctor said it’s a boy,” she said, chuckling.Lisa smiled. “You can tell he’s going to be one of those overprotective fathers. The poor man couldn’t sit still for a second.”Amber laughed, shaking her head. “He’s been waiting for this for years. That baby is going to be spoiled rotten before he’s even out of the cradle.”They both laughed again, the sound soft and tired. The driver stopped in front of the grand steps leading into the estate. Two guards quickly opened the doors for them. Lisa stretched as she stepped out, her feet aching in her heels.Amber

  • The Night Of a New Life

Inside Amber’s estate, the world was still until her phone buzzed violently on the bedside drawer.Amber stirred awake, glancing at the clock. 2:43 a.m.She groaned softly, snatching the phone and answering without checking. “Who is this?”A rushed, breathless voice came through. “It’s happening, Lady Amber! It’s Clarissa, she’s in labour!”Amber sat up immediately, the sleep vanishing from her tone. “What? How far along?”“She started contracting not long ago. We’re on our way to St. George’s. Matteo’s with her.”Amber didn’t waste another second. “I’ll be there soon.” She hung up, swung her legs off the bed, and reached for her robe.Moments later, the light in the hallway flicked on. Lisa appeared, wrapped in a shawl, rubbing her eyes. “Amber? What’s going on?”Amber was already slipping on her coat. “Clarissa. She’s in labour.”Lisa blinked, still groggy. “Clarissa? The one you told me about? Matteo’s wife?”Amber nodded, fastening her buttons quickly. “Yes. I need to be at the ho

  • Escape To London

Lisa stood by the window of Amber’s mansion in London, her gaze lost in the view. The last few days had been calm, a kind of peace she didn’t trust. Every time the silence grew too thick, she half expected Xavier’s voice to break through the phone, or worse, for Teacher’s shadow to reappear.Behind her, Emerald’s laughter broke the stillness. “Mum!” she called, spinning around the massive sitting room. “Can you believe this place?”Lisa smiled faintly and turned. Emerald, barefoot and wide-eyed, was circling the grand chandelier that hung from the ceiling. “I swear, this house is bigger than our whole street in Lagos. Mum, there’s a cinema, a pool, a gym, and...” she stopped mid-sentence, her eyes widening as she looked toward Amber. “And wait... there’s a painting of me here!”Amber, lounging on one of the velvet couches, laughed softly. “Yes, darling, I tend to decorate with familiar faces. Helps me remember who I am.”Emerald blinked, still in awe. “So… so this is really all yours
