Chapter 24

The question caught Adolphus offguard, leaving him pale at a spot.

For a moment, he was speechless and when he managed to pull himself together, he forced out a smile and went to sit with Sandra McAllen.

“Uhm… About that… I don't want them to know for now. They'd surely learn the truth in the future but not yet.”

Sandra gave him an intense look but there was a hint of understanding her eyes carried.

"Alright, take your time and be careful.” She commented while nodding her head before standing up and spreading her arms open.

Adolphus let her hug him again after which he bade her farewell.

At the reception of the hotel, he left the other jewelry box with them and called Bradley to pick it up for his mother.

After that, he made his way to the school gate and met with Donald and Glover who were waiting for him.

Standing before them in a new outfit which looked a little expensive, Donald stated the observation he made.

“You got new clothes and they look quite expensive. Although they look good on you.”

"Yeah, they're nice. Now tell us where you've been to. We had to browse the whole school in search of you." Glover added.

At that moment, Adolphus had no choice but to reveal the reason he disappeared.

He scanned the place and saw a bench which he sat on while his friends joined him, looking curious.

“Now tell us what is going on." Donald inquired impatiently and Adolphus sighed deeply before opening his mouth to speak.

“Earlier when I left you guys, it was Svetlana that I met up with." His confession left his friends gaping at him, confused and shocked.

“But what did she say to you that made you meet up with her? Don't tell me that you're still in love with that bitch?" Glover cursed, glaring at Adolphus.

He was the calmer one amongst Adolphus's friends. However, at that moment, he could not help but be so pissed after hearing his friend's confession.

Why would Adolphus meet up with Svetlana?

“Are you still in love with her after everything that has happened?" 

Adolphus shook his head many times and replied. "No, I'm not in love with her. In fact, I detest her right now.”

"Then why did you meet with someone you detest?”

The place was calm for a moment apart from the noise from speeding vehicles and horns.

Adolphus was thinking of a better way to explain what happened to him.

“And you said something about going to Richmond's party? Why? If I may ask.” Glover inquired.

The friends were still glaring at Adolphus while he gestured for them to remain calm.

“I fell for her lies again. Svetlana called me last night and asked to meet up with the promise to reveal Richmond's plans against me." Adolphus began to explain and just the first statement left them open-mouthed.

“I didn't want to pay heed to whatever she had to say but she kept insisting." Adolphus continued.

“She told me to meet her up at the abandoned chemistry laboratory because she doesn't want Richmond to see us having a conversation." 

Adolphus gave all the details to them and had to pause for a moment.

After a long pause, he continued. “It all turned out to be a ploy between her and her accomplices just to lock me up after making me unconscious.”

"I was fortunate to be found out by a security guard who heard the banging on the door and came to my rescue.”

"If it weren't for that, I'd still be locked there right now with a dead phone and no way of contacting anyone.”

"We all know who was behind this evil act.” Donald continued as he stared into space, breathing heavily.

He was feeling so pained about the unfortunate incident with Adolphus.

They could not get themselves to blame Adolphus for meeting up with Svetlana.

She clearly used her charm to get to him, just like she did in the past.

“And you." Donald turned to Adolphus, pointing his index at him.

“What were you thinking?" 

"I have no idea how she was able to convince me to meet with her privately.”

"She knows that you loved her deeply and took advantage of that fact.” Glover responded and stood up.

"What's your plan, Adolphus? Remember, you have no evidence that Richmond is responsible for what happened.”

"And, he's rich and you're not. His father can easily cover for his crimes and he'd get away with just anything he does.”

"Not anymore.” Adolphus rose to his feet, staring seriously into the air.

He had a resolute expression and got his friends questioning each other with their looks.

Adolphus checked the time on his phone and saw that Richmond's party must have begun.

Turning to face his friends, he said to them. “It's party time, guys. Come on, let's pay Richmond a visit." 

“But we weren't invited." 

“Then we'd have to invite ourselves. Richmond plans on rubbing my name in the mud before everyone. I won't let that happen." 

Without waiting for his friend's consent and more questions from them, Adolphus stopped the next taxi that passed by and asked them to get in.

“Come on, guys." 

Reluctantly, they joined in the cab, wondering what he was up to. He was acting strange but they intended to know what he was going to do at the party.

The drive to the Wright's residence was a quiet one and in less than thirty minutes, they pulled over before the villa which was heavily guarded.

The security guards were instructed not to allow anyone without an invitation and they didn't hesitate to send Adolphus and his friends away.

“We shouldn't have come here, Adolphus. Now see how we've wasted our time." Glover was putting the blame on Adolphus. However, he ignored them and went back to the security men alone.

He observed the one who was in charge and walked up to him. “Mr. I want to get in there with my friends. Just name your price for a passage."
