“Mom, what did you do that for?” Svetlana barked from where she stood. She was so disappointed and embarrassed as well.

Her friends, Hope, and Prisca could not move an inch after the unexpected slap. They just stood at a spot, sobbing and nursing their faces.

They were very rude and thought everyone would take shit from them. Unfortunately, Gina was not one to cower and sob because some girls on the same age as her daughter said some horrible things to her.

She was a very strong-willed woman and was doing her best to give her two daughters the best life she could afford. Unfortunately, Svetlana had sworn to be foolish, unlike her younger sister, who's a smart teenager.

Gina, with bloodshot eyes, turned to face Svetlana, glaring daggers at her daughter.

“You are a foolish young lady who's even ashamed of her mother. You're ashamed of who you are. And look at the kind of friends you're keeping.”

Gina sucked her teeth while shaking her head in disgust.

“I feel sorry for you. And if you think you can go on without my help, then be my guest.”

“I'm going to focus only on your sister and let you enjoy this new path of yours. However, you must not come crying to me when this boy dumps you and moves on to the next person.”

Gina gave Richmond one thorough look with a very cold expression. She could read through him and believed that he was a playboy.

He didn't look like a good person, and he had earlier acted like an arrogant brat.

He could be rich, but he's not good for Svetlana. Unfortunately, her daughter didn't care about character.

She must be interested in his money, which had made her lose her self-respect.

“Well, since you don't want me here and you're not proud of your mother, I'll be on my way now.” Gina said to her daughter.

“Enjoy your love, and I wish you the best.”

With that, Gina turned around and went to carry the bags she came with.

Before turning to leave, she added in a disappointed voice. “I'm going back with the food I prepared for you with so much love. It's obvious you don't need it.”

Gina was leaving the place when a voice called out to her.

“Excuse me, Ma'am.”

She stopped in her tracks and saw Adolphus walking up to her with everyone present, casting him a questioning gaze.

“Yes, young man. How can I help you?” Gina inquired, giving him a confused look.

She had earlier noticed him seated with his friends and was quietly watching the drama between Svetlana and her.

Adolphus reached out and introduced himself. “My name is Adolphus Stevenson. I'm sorry about what just happened between you and your daughter.”

“You're doing your best as a parent, but it's obvious that your daughter is not appreciative. But don't worry, she'll come to appreciate you when life teaches her a valuable lesson.”

“I believe that she's just ignorant and doesn't understand what it means to toil hard and earn money and also not getting appreciated.”

Although Gina felt awkward and didn't know what to say, she admired the young man's audacity.

She believed that Adolphus sounded like a wise and smart young man.

“Tell me, Adolphus.” Gina seemed to be interested in him and inquired. “Why did you make such a comment? Have you also been working very hard to support yourself?”

Adolphus nodded his head and turned to stare briefly at Svetlana, whose gaze was as cold as ice.

Adolphus winked at her and turned back to Gina, nodding his head. “Yes, Ma'am. I've been working really hard all my life just to take care of my needs as a student.”

“And even as a student, I did my best for someone I loved, but what did I get in return? Betrayal and backstabbing.”

“It's really heartbreaking to be betrayed by someone you love. So I understand how you're feeling right now.” Adolphus added in a very low voice that sounded like he's sobbing.

At the place where she stood, Svetlana wanted to go and confront Adolphus, but Richmond held her back.

She turned to him with a questioning gaze, and he shook his head and muttered. “No. Just let him be.”

Like a puppet, she quickly nodded her head without any questions.

Everyone else just quietly watched the sub drama between Adolphus and Svetlana's Mom, waiting to see how it'll end.

Gina, on the other hand, reached out and patted Adolphus's shoulders a few times before muttering. “You're a wise and smart one, and I admire your resilience. It would have been better if someone like you was my daughter's boyfriend.”

“I'd rather choose you over an arrogant rich brat who thinks that the world revolves around him because he came from a wealthy family.”

Adolphus could not help but smile inwardly because of that statement. He had it in mind to tell the woman about his previous relationship with Svetlana. However, he had to resist the urge to do that.

Svetlana was now in the past, and he had no intention of going back to her.

He had a feeling that her relationship with Richmond won't last long. And if she comes running to him after learning his identity, he won't hesitate to remind her of all that happened in the past.

“Thank you, ma.” Adolphus replied and turned to his friends, who gave him a knowing look.

“Just keep being you. Keep being authentic and hardworking, and I believe that you'll get a very good job after graduation.” Gina added, and Adolphus bowed slightly.

“I will, Ma'am. Thank you for your kind words.”

Gina gave Adolphus one last smile and turned to leave but stopped in her tracks. She called out to Adolphus and handed the bags to him.

“Here, take these. I cooked a lot of food and I believe that you and your friends will enjoy it.”

“Please, don't refuse my gesture. I don't want it to get wasted since the person I made it for doesn't want it.” Gina added as she casted her daughter and Richmond a very dirty look.

The food will serve them for the rest of the day, and the remainder will be refrigerated and preheated the next day for breakfast. He was so looking forward to enjoying the homemade meals on his hands.Gina smiled warmly, nodded a few times with pursed lips, and began to leave the place without looking back. Svetlana wanted to run after her mother, but Richmond held her back. “I'm always here for you, Svet. Don't let all that she said trouble you.
