Chapter 1 ~ Fired and Betrayed

"Rafael Elijah, starting today you're fired! Pack your things and leave," said the Sales Manager at Mauve, Elias Raymon.

"I’m fired?" Rafael was stunned for a moment before continuing. "But I’ve been working well, why am I suddenly fired?" Rafael asked, genuinely shocked.

"You've been embezzling company funds. Therefore, the company feels you're not worthy of working here anymore. You should consider yourself lucky that the company didn’t report you to the police," Elias said with a sarcastic tone.

"Wait! Embezzling? I didn’t do anything!" Rafael denied all the accusations.

"I have the evidence, Rafael. You can’t deny it anymore!" Elias said, his voice dripping with sarcasm and firmness.

Rafael was a staff member in the Sales Department of Mauve. Since he started working, he had never taken a single day off for more than a year.

Because he worked so hard, he initially thought that he might be able to get a promotion and a raise.

Unexpectedly, today he was fired for something he didn’t even do. He had no idea who was jealous enough to accuse him, but what was clear was that Rafael wasn’t getting any support from anyone.

"Wait, Mr. Elias. What evidence are you talking about? How could there be any evidence if I never embezzled any funds?" Rafael asked, feeling uncertain.

Elias looked at Rafael with a sly grin on his face. "There’s no point in denying it, Rafael. The evidence is clear. The documents of irregular fund transfers all point to you. Do you think I’m stupid enough to make a decision without any basis?" Elias placed several sheets of paper on the desk and pushed them toward Rafael.

With trembling hands, Rafael grabbed the documents. His eyes scanned the numbers and signatures written there. Yes, that was his signature—or more precisely, a very convincing forgery. Rafael shook his head, his heart pounding hard.

"This is impossible. I never signed these documents!" he exclaimed, his voice rising with emotion.

Elias let out a small laugh and stood up from his chair. "That’s no longer my problem, Rafael. The decision has been made. Pack your things before I call security to escort you out."

Rafael stood frozen in place. His breath was heavy, and his emotions were boiling over. He had worked day and night to give his best, even sacrificing his personal time. But now, all of that meant nothing. This humiliation felt like a slap in the face.

"I won’t stay silent," Rafael muttered under his breath. His eyes locked onto Elias. "I’ll find out who set me up, and I’ll prove that I’m innocent."

But deep inside, Rafael knew that proving the truth wouldn’t be easy. Elias had already labeled him as the perpetrator, and no one in the company would support him. It felt like the whole world was conspiring against him.

Rafael left the room feeling shattered. Now, he had lost his job. In the future, even meeting his basic needs would become a problem.

"Damn it!" Rafael cursed. "What am I supposed to do now?"

Rafael could only sigh. He packed his things and left the office feeling disappointed.

He placed the box of his belongings into the trunk of his old car. Then, he tried calling his girlfriend Calista, but the call went unanswered. He decided to get in the car and leave the office area.

On the way, Rafael noticed a new message on his phone. He opened the message, and it was from an unknown number. The picture attached showed his girlfriend in bed with a man he recognized.

Degh!

"Calista and Elias?"

Rafael felt like his chest had been hit by a sledgehammer. His fingers trembled as he zoomed in on the photo, hoping it was a mistake, but no—it was unmistakably them. Calista, his girlfriend, smiling affectionately beside Elias, the manager who had just fired him without a second thought.

Anger and pain mixed together inside him. Rafael slammed the brakes and stopped his car at the side of the road. His breath quickened, his eyes burned, and his right hand clenched into a fist so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

"Damn it! So this is why she didn’t pick up my calls?" Rafael punched the steering wheel in frustration. The memories of Calista, always caring and loving, spun in his mind. Now, it all felt like one big lie.

That feeling of being crushed turned into a raging fury. Not only had he been betrayed by the person he trusted, but he had also been destroyed by his superior.

"They’ve ruined everything... my life, my job, and now this?" he muttered in a low voice, almost like a hiss.

But in the midst of his anger and despair, his phone vibrated again. This time, another message appeared.

"Rafael Elijah, if you want to take revenge, I can help you. Choose ‘YES’ to continue."

The message was from an anonymous sender, with no detectable number. Rafael frowned.

"What is this?" he thought as he stared at the screen.

Doubt filled his mind, but as he remembered Elias and Calista’s faces in the photo, his lips pressed tightly together. With trembling hands, he typed his response.

"YES."

As soon as Rafael hit send, his phone vibrated intensely. The screen flickered, and strange text appeared that he couldn’t understand.

Moments later, a cold but firm voice came from the phone.

"Welcome, Rafael Elijah. The system has been activated."

Rafael gasped, his heart pounding. "What is this?" he murmured, staring at the phone that suddenly displayed an interface resembling an advanced app.

There were several menu options: ‘Skills,’ ‘Missions,’ ‘Resources,’ and ‘Revenge Targets.’

A new message appeared:

"Initial Mission: Collect evidence of betrayal and framing. Main targets: Elias Raymon and Calista Verena. Reward: Initial funds to restart your life."

Rafael swallowed hard. This is crazy, he thought. But for some reason, a part of him felt that this was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

He clicked on the 'Revenge Targets' menu, and immediately, profiles for Elias and Calista appeared, complete with detailed information about their activities. There were even Elias’s financial data and additional evidence that Rafael never imagined he would have access to.

"They think they’ve won," he whispered as he clenched his fists. "Just wait. This time, I won’t be the victim again."

With a burning new determination, Rafael decided to accept the system’s help and change his life, starting with uncovering who was truly behind his downfall.

“So, what really happened, Ivory?” Rafael asked. They were all gathered in the meeting room at that moment.“Actually... Martin often harassed me. Sometimes, he even tried to assault me, but I was too scared to do anything,” Ivory muttered, her head lowered.“What?! He assaulted you and you just stayed silent? Why didn’t you tell me anything?” Leonard yelled, furious.“Calm down, Leon. Let’s hear the whole story first,” Rafael said.“Yes… he kept trying to flirt with me, even though I did my best to avoid him. Then, a few weeks ago, someone came to the café when I was working alone. He was looking for Martin and acted very suspicious. That man was the same person who led the gang earlier,” she said, her eyes brimming with tears. “They talked secretly and behaved strangely. Martin even pointed to a few spots in this building, which made me more suspicious. I wanted to tell you everything, but he suddenly locked me up in the storage room and showed me the system you were working on. He

"Who are these people? How did they find this base and try to break in? Are they members of Black Wings?" Elena asked, stationed at the second-floor window with her weapon ready."I don’t know… What we need to do right now is drive these damn flies out!" Leonard shouted from the other side. Truthfully, he had no idea what was going on either."And why isn’t Rafael here? He, Martin, and Dirk are all gone. Did they go somewhere without telling us? Or—did Rafael try to infiltrate Black Wings on his own?" Elena pressed, clearly anxious."Maybe stop locking yourself in your room and you’d know more," Leonard snapped. "Anyway, I don’t know. El didn’t tell me anything."Sienna fired off several rounds before ducking behind cover, quickly reloading her magazine. "If Rafael really tried to get into Black Wings, we’ve got a serious problem. These people could be retaliation."Elena furrowed her brow, anxiety creeping in. "Then we can’t just sit here and defend. We have to find out where Rafael,

Out of everyone I know, you were the one I trusted the most,” said Dirk as they stood inside the dimly lit warehouse.Rafael glanced at Ivory—her temple and jaw bruised, tears silently streaming down her cheeks as she held back sobs.“You’re the fool, Dirk. You actually trusted a kid like him?” Martin scoffed. “What did he tell you? That he wanted to destroy Nextwave? Take over Black Wings? Come on. You really bought into that childish fantasy?”“I trusted him because I know he has courage,” Dirk replied, his voice steady despite the tension in his clenched jaw. “At least Rafael doesn’t stab people in the back, unlike you.”Martin chuckled, shaking his head mockingly. “Courage? Don’t make me laugh, Dirk. All he has is empty ambition. You think Nextwave can be toppled by someone like him? Don’t be naïve.”Rafael clenched his fists, struggling not to lunge at Martin then and there. His eyes shifted back to Ivory, who was still quietly sobbing. The

Slamming his foot on the gas pedal, he sped onto the main road.“Damn it!”“What is it?” Dirk asked, glancing at Rafael, who was now fumbling with his phone.“I lost him,” Rafael growled in frustration. The security system Sienna had installed wasn’t strong enough to track Martin’s whereabouts.“Wait a sec,” Rafael said, focusing intently on his phone. He tried to send a request to the System for help—anything that could help him trace Martin. The System showed a new feature—Individual Tracking—a tool that could locate someone by simply entering their name.Rafael scanned the feature description quickly. “Individual Tracking... Damn, it’s insanely expensive,” he muttered through gritted teeth. “All because of that bastard Martin! I’m paying this much for one single feature? He better pray I don’t catch him!”Reluctantly, Rafael hit “Purchase.” He nearly wept as he wa
