"Alejandro, if you come home without the grocery money one more time, I’m going to make sure your only dancing partner is a broomstick for the rest of your life!"

Alejandro “Alejo” Vargas winced, pulling his cracked smartphone away from his ear as his aunt’s voice reached a frequency usually reserved for dog whistles and operatic tragedies. He stood at the edge of a dusty plaza in the heart of Mexico City, the sun beating down on his neck like a physical weight. The smell of charred corn and exhaust fumes swirled around him, but all he could focus on was the impending doom of his empty wallet.

"I’m trying, Tía! But the market was crowded, and then I—"

"And then you got distracted by a butterfly or a stray cat or your own shadow! You’re twenty-two, Alejo! You have the reflexes of a sloth and the social skills of a brick. Get the money back from those thugs who 'borrowed' it, or find a job that doesn't involve staring at your shoes!"

The line went dead. Alejo sighed, staring at his reflection in a shop window. He was the definition of 'unassuming.' Messy black hair, a lanky frame that seemed to fold in on itself whenever someone looked at him too long, and a pair of eyes that constantly searched for the nearest exit. He wasn't a fighter. He wasn't a lover. He was just a guy who wanted to exist in the background of life, preferably with a bag of chips and zero eye contact.

"Right. Reclaim the money. Easy," Alejo muttered, his voice trembling. "I’ll just walk up to Big Gato and his three-hundred-pound cousins and say, 'Excuse me, sirs, but my aunt is very cross.' That’ll work."

He turned the corner into a narrow alleyway, a shortcut he usually avoided. Naturally, fate—or perhaps his own legendary bad luck—was waiting for him. Three men stood blocked the path, leaning against a graffiti-covered wall. In the center was Big Gato, a man whose neck was wider than Alejo’s entire torso.

"Look who it is," Gato grinned, revealing a gold tooth that caught the afternoon light. "Little Alejo. Come to donate more to the neighborhood fund?"

"Actually, I... I’d like the first donation back? Please?" Alejo’s knees felt like they were made of jelly.

Gato laughed, a deep, rumbling sound. "You’ve got spirit, kid. Too bad spirit doesn't pay the bills. Boys, teach him the interest rates."

As the two thugs stepped forward, cracking their knuckles with rhythmic precision, a sudden, blinding flash of neon-blue light exploded in front of Alejo’s eyes. He stumbled back, tripping over a discarded crate.

"I don't want to choose! I want to run!" Alejo yelled.

"Who are you talking to, freak?" one of the thugs growled, lunging forward with a heavy fist.

[AUTO-SELECTING STYLE: SALSA!] [BGM ACTIVATING: 'Fuego en la Calle' – 120 BPM]

Suddenly, a brassy, high-energy salsa beat began to thrum directly in Alejo’s skull. It wasn't just music; it was a command. His hips, usually as stiff as a frozen board, suddenly gave a sharp, involuntary twitch.

[Rhythm Sync: 15%... 40%... 65%...] [Skill Unlocked: Basic Shine Step (Evasion Grade: C)]

As the thug’s fist swung toward his face, Alejo’s legs moved on their own. He performed a perfect, lightning-fast back-break step. His body blurred, sliding six inches to the left with the grace of a professional performer. The fist whistled through empty air.

"What the—?" the thug blinked, stumbling forward from the momentum.

"I’m sorry! I didn't mean to do that!" Alejo cried, even as his feet began to shuffle in a rapid-fire pattern. One-two-three, five-six-seven. He was doing a basic salsa step in the middle of a street fight. It was the most humiliating moment of his life, and yet, he felt strangely light.

[Rhythm Sync: 85%. Speed Multiplier: 2.0x]

"Stop mocking us!" the second thug roared, swinging a lead pipe.

Alejo didn't just dodge; he spun. A perfect double-turn, his arms tucked in, his core tight. The pipe missed his head by a hair’s breadth. As he completed the rotation, the system flashed a bright red prompt: [CROSS BODY LEAD STRIKE AVAILABLE!]

Driven by the beat, Alejo grabbed the thug’s extended arm. Instead of a punch, he used the momentum of a dance lead, stepping through and pivoting. The thug, caught in the centrifugal force of a high-speed salsa maneuver, was launched face-first into a stack of empty trash cans.

"He’s... he’s dancing?" Big Gato stared, his jaw dropping. "Why is he shaking his hips before he hits? Is this some kind of new karate?"

Alejo was mortified. His face was a deep shade of crimson. "I can't stop! My legs have a mind of their own!" He was currently doing a series of flamboyant 'shines,' his feet tapping the pavement with the speed of a machine gun. Every time he tried to stand still, a sharp electric shock surged through his spine.

[WARNING: RHYTHM DROPPING! SYNC AT 50%. MAINTAIN THE FLOW OR FACE THE 'CLUMSY WALLFLOWER' DEBUFF!]

"No! No shocks!" Alejo squealed. He threw himself into a frantic, high-speed mambo step.

Big Gato pulled out a pocketknife, his eyes narrowing. "I don't care if you’re the king of the disco, kid. You’re dead."

He lunged. Alejo saw the blade and panicked. The music in his head shifted, the tempo dropping into something sharper, more aggressive.

[Style Switch: TANGO (Precision Mode).] [BGM: 'The Assassin’s Rose' – 64 BPM]

Alejo’s posture instantly changed. His spine straightened, his chin lifted, and his gaze became a cold, piercing stare. He didn't shuffle anymore; he stalked. As Gato thrust the knife, Alejo stepped into the man’s personal space—chest to chest. It was an intimate, terrifyingly precise movement. He hooked Gato’s leading leg with his own in a classic gancho.

With a sharp flick of his heel, he sent the giant man sprawling onto the concrete.

[Mission Accomplished. Reward: 500 Pesos & 'Light Feet' Passive Skill.] [Sync Mode: Deactivating.]

The music stopped. The neon screens vanished. Alejo stood in the middle of the alley, panting, surrounded by three groaning men. He looked at his hands, then at his feet.

"What... what just happened?"

"What happened," a cold, sharp voice echoed from the entrance of the alley, "is that you have the worst form I have ever seen in my professional life."

Alejo spun around, his face heating up again. Standing there was a woman with a high ponytail, wearing a sleek athletic tracksuit that screamed 'elite.' She held a clipboard in one hand and a bottle of water in the other. Her eyes, a piercing shade of brown, were narrowed in utter disgust.

"Your Salsa is frantic, your Tango lacks passion, and your footwork is a literal crime against my heritage," she said, stepping over the unconscious Gato as if he were a piece of litter. "I am Lucía Fernández. And apparently, I’ve been tasked with turning this... disaster... into a weapon."

Alejo stared at her, his mouth agape. "You saw that?"

"The whole neighborhood saw it, you idiot," Lucía snapped. "You were doing a shimmy while taking down a man twice your size. It was the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever witnessed. Now, get up. We have a studio session. If you miss a beat in my class, I won't just shock you—I’ll break you."

Alejo swallowed hard. His life as a shy wallflower was officially over. The system had arrived, and it had brought a coach from hell.

[New Mission: Survive Lucía’s First Lesson.] [Reward: Not Dying.]

"I think I’d rather go back to being a potato," Alejo whispered to the empty air.

"I heard that!" Lucía shouted without looking back. "Move those hips, Vargas! We’re burning daylight!"

It’s a very efficient way to rest."The two thugs who remained standing didn't look like they wanted to test the efficiency of Alejo’s 'napping' technique.
