Laxus froze, his heart pounding. “What are you talking about, Drake?”
“Don’t play dumb,” Drake sneered. ""You’ve got everyone fooled, but not me. You’re a Kinkaid. You think you can hide that?""
Laxus swallowed hard, but before he could respond, Drake continued. ""You’re going to quit this job. Walk away, or I’ll make sure everyone knows the truth.""
Fear gripped Laxus. His mind flashed to the life he had built, the normalcy he had fought so hard to maintain. ""You don’t have to do this, Drake. We can talk—""
“There’s nothing to talk about,” Drake interrupted. “Either you quit, or your little secret becomes public knowledge.”
Laxus clenched his fists, anger mixing with fear. But he knew Drake wasn’t bluffing. He had no choice. ""Fine. I’ll quit.”
Drake smirked, satisfied. ""Good. I want your resignation on my dad’s desk by tomorrow morning.""
Laxus spent the night wrestling with the decision. "There's no other way..."
The next morning, Laxus woke up late. "It's almost 9 a.m.!" he panicked, rushing to get ready. Even though he planned to quit, he still wanted to be on time. He quickly dressed in a casual t-shirt and jeans, hoping to avoid drawing attention.
When he arrived at the restaurant, he was surprised to see it packed with customers. Henry approached him, looking serious.
""You're late, Laxus. Where have you been?"" Henry asked sharply.
"Mr. Henry, I need to talk to you. I don’t think I can keep this job—"" Laxus started.
""That can wait. The customers are here because they loved your burgers from yesterday. Get in the kitchen and make more,"" Henry ordered, handing him an apron.
Laxus hesitated but didn’t want to let Henry down. He entered the kitchen and saw Drake, who was clearly upset.
""What are you doing here? I told you not to come back,"" Drake snapped.
""This is my last day. I’ll be gone after today,"" Laxus replied.
Drake scoffed but didn’t say more. As the day went on, the rush finally eased. Then, Henry walked in with a young woman.
"Who’s she?" Drake asked.
""This is Nessy Faraway. She’s joining the kitchen staff. We needed more help,"" Henry explained.
Drake smiled, seeing an opportunity. "Finally, you listened," he said.
Henry looked at him sternly. "I expect everyone to work together."
Laxus noticed Drake’s pleased expression and realized that his last day wouldn’t be as simple as he thought.
Henry walked away, leaving the new girl, Nessy, standing there. She was pretty, that much was clear.
Nessy bowed her head with a smile. "I'll be in your care."
Laxus couldn't help but admire her looks. She had a small body and an innocent face.
'She's cute.'
Drake interrupted his thoughts with a crooked smile.
"Hi," he said, clearly enjoying the fact that Laxus’s time at the restaurant was running out.
Laxus considered telling Henry about his plans to quit after finishing the dishes. With Nessy around, maybe his absence wouldn’t be noticed much. She seemed confident enough to take over his duties.
"Hi!" Nessy greeted them, smiling warmly. Her dimples showed as she glanced between Laxus and Drake.
"Hi," Laxus replied.
"Welcome to our restaurant," Drake said, grinning wildly. He was clearly pleased to see a new face, someone who wouldn’t overshadow him like Laxus did. "Nice to meet you," he added, reaching out for a handshake. His eyes lingered on her, appreciating her presence.
She shook Drake’s hand and replied softly, "Thank you."
"Welcome, Nessy," Laxus added, unsure if he should shake her hand too. But before he could decide, she offered her hand to him. She seemed friendly, so he shook her hand as well. They exchanged brief smiles, and then the room fell silent for a moment.
"Okay, so all introductions are done," Henry said, breaking the silence.
"Do you know where the boss plans to have you work?" Laxus asked.
"I’ll probably just pick a spot that suits me," Nessy shrugged.
""Leave that to me. I’ll show you around,"" Drake quickly interjected, throwing an icy look at Laxus.
"Laxus!" Henry called out, cutting through the tension.
"Yes, sir?" Laxus replied, wondering why he was being singled out.
""The customers loved the burgers today. Some even said they were better than yesterday's. Good job, everyone,"" Henry said, though it was clear that Laxus had done most of the work. Henry’s praise was shared, but Laxus knew who really carried the kitchen.
"Laxus, I need to see you in my office," Henry added, his tone more serious.
Laxus’s mind raced. Had he done something wrong? He put down what he was doing. "Drake, show Nessy the ropes," Henry instructed.
"No problem, Dad. I’ll get right on it,"" Drake said, smiling as if he had just been given a prize.
"Laxus," Henry called again. Laxus nodded and followed his boss to the office.
Henry sat behind his large desk as Laxus walked in. “Have a seat, Laxus,” he said, pointing to the chair in front of him.
Laxus sat down, feeling nervous. Henry pulled out a sheet of paper and started writing on it. Laxus wondered if Henry had discovered his plan to leave.
“Alright,” Henry said, looking up from the paper. ""You were late this morning. That’s against our policy.""
“I’m really sorry,” Laxus said, apologizing for being late. He had overslept, and the fear of Drake revealing his secrets had been overwhelming. ""You said you wanted to talk about something. What’s that about?""
Laxus struggled to find the right words. He didn’t know how to explain that he wanted to quit so soon, especially after everyone had praised his cooking. He didn’t want to disappoint Henry, who had been supportive.
Drake’s angry words echoed in his mind: ""This restaurant is my birthright! You think you can just come in and take my place? Be careful or else…""
Having Drake as an enemy was troubling. Laxus didn’t want to make enemies, especially with someone who could ruin him if his secrets got out. He needed to handle this situation carefully.
Henry called Laxus again, his tone sharper. “Laxus!”
Laxus straightened up, his voice shaky. “Yes, sir?”
“You didn’t hear a word I said,” Henry observed, his eyes narrowing.
“I’m sorry,” Laxus said quickly, trying to sound more confident.
Henry leaned forward, curiosity piqued. “So what’s so urgent that you made my customers wait?”
Laxus took a deep breath, knowing he had to address the issue directly. He was determined to resign, but the reality of his situation made his resolve falter. The thought of losing his income and facing homelessness weighed heavily on him.
He hesitated before speaking. ""I... I need to talk to you about something important.""
Henry’s expression became more focused. “Go on.”
Laxus’s mind raced. He knew that if he quit, it would cause a lot of trouble for both him and Henry. The threat from Drake only complicated things further.
Summoning his courage, Laxus said, ""Actually, I wanted to ask if you could show me the latest recipes for those snacks you mentioned. If you don’t mind…""
Henry looked surprised but relieved. “That’s all?”
“Yes, sir,” Laxus admitted, feeling a mix of embarrassment and relief. “I was worried it might be something worse.”
Henry relaxed and smiled. ""No need to worry. I’m glad it’s just about learning new recipes.""
Laxus felt a sense of relief. He decided to stay at the restaurant for the time being, focusing on improving his skills and handling Drake’s threats as best he could.

An Opportunity To Step In
Luther squeezed his eyes shut in regret. He knew he shouldn’t have allowed Tyler into his home or even had the conversation knowing that Linnie was upstairs, but he thought that it would be quick and dismissive, and being that they had both crawled into a hole since the incidence, she would not be aware.“I see what is going on here,” Linnie said as she came down to the living room. With the way they saw it, it was obvious that she was eavesdropping, so it would be utterly useless for Luther to deny any of what she must have heard. He turned and looked at Tyler angrily. “Now that you have gotten what you wanted, can you leave?” He asked Tyler angrily.“I came here for money, not this,” Tyler said stubbornly. “Someone was bound to find out anyway, so let’s be grateful that it’s your beautiful wife and not your dad whom you are scared of, or even the entire city,” he added.Luther had no idea that Tyler could be like this. All the times that they did their thing secretly, Tyler always a

First And Last Time
Bowman sighed deeply and heavily as he wiped the tears that had been sliding down his cheeks as he shook his head, trying to get rid of the memories. They were the only memory that Bowman doubted he would be able to forget, no matter how deteriorating his mental health might become.“Katryn Kinkaid…” Bowman mentioned her name.He hadn’t looked away from the inscription on her tomb since he arrived, and this was the first time he was calling her name out loud, and as he did, his heart broke and his lips quivered.Bowman had always been a man of strength, but his only weakness had been Kinkaid’s daughter; a treasure that he couldn’t have.A week after Bowman had returned and not bothered to reach out to Katryn, Mr. Kinkaid had passed on.Bowman had still been dealing with the hurt of losing Katryn, added to the fact that he couldn’t get visions of their lovemaking out of his head, so much so that for that entire week, Bowman had had difficulty concentrating at work. The only thing he co
Pleasure And Choices
Bowman had stood in front of Katryn as she stood at his door, staring speechlessly. There wasn’t anything in particular he had expected from Katryn, being that he was completely engulfed with the shock and restlessness that the announcement of her presence brought, but it was certainly not tears in her beautiful eyes.No one knew this, but that had been the first time that Bowman was seeing a woman in tears.Of course, he had heard that women cried sometimes; these were stories that he often heard at the men’s club he visited sometimes just to unwind after a busy week at Mr. Kinkaid’s secret company, but he had never seen it. Bowman had always mingled with call girls and women who just wanted sex and money without commitment, so he often thought that the men at the club were either lying, or simply exaggerating. And there he was, staring blankly at Katryn Kinkaid in tears.Seeing her in the state did not just leave Bowman speechless, he mind also went blank. He had no idea what he wa
An Unusual Guest
Bowman returned to his hotel room with mixed feelings. He was heartbroken, but he was also relieved. At least now he would be able to travel back and never return. Bowman had the feeling that he would never be able to stop thinking about Katryn Kinkaid, but he would never set his eyes on her again, and he could also use other women to get her off his mind a little.Bowman’s worry also centered on what Mr. Kinkaid had confided in him about. He was dying really soon.Bowman’s heart had split into two when he heard it. He knew that all men would die, but he just never thought that Mr. Kinkaid was a man worthy of death. Bowman had just never thought of it, but now, he understood why the man was trying to put everything in place.More worrying was the fact that Mr. Kinkaid had not mentioned it to anyone else except Bowman. His wife and daughter had no knowledge of this. Also, Mr. Kinkaid had pleaded with Bowman not to let anyone know about the multi-million dollars company he was handling
What To Do
Bowman really wanted to punch something when he returned to his hotel room, precisely the wall, but he feared that if he did that, he would have to be paying for damages.Darwin was not deserving of a woman like Katryn, and it hurt him like hell.It hurt Bowman more deeply because he had a deep attraction for Katryn. He could not stop thinking about her or fantasizing being with her. If Bowman had her, he doubted that he would want another woman in his entire life.Katryn and Darwin’s wedding drew closer and closer, making it almost impossible to call it off, and being that Katryn wanted to go ahead with it because she was in love with Darwin also would make it very difficult to call it off.More than anything, Bowman could not stand it. “I need to leave this city,” Bowman said to himself. He believed that getting back to his job and busy schedule would take his mind off Katryn Kinkaid. At that moment, it did not matter much that Darwin was unfit for Katryn. It was now more important
For The Love Of One Woman
Bowman had waited for Katryn and Darwin at the fancy restaurant that he had booked after Katryn had informed him that she had been able to get Darwin to come along. It had been a disastrous idea, considering the fact that Bowman could hardly deny his strong and deep attraction for Katryn. He was certain that he would end the dinner with a heartache, but then again, he was doing this for Mr. Kinkaid, and he would do anything for the man, even if it meant hurting himself. Some minutes later, Katryn and Darwin had strolled into the restaurant, with Darwin holding Katryn possessively. Bowman had bit his lower lip in stark jealousy as they both looked like the perfect couple. He had known that this was going to shred his heart into pieces. They hadn’t even gotten to him yet and he was already in pains.Bowman slowly and cautiously got up as they approached his table, because he did not want Katryn to taunt him about leaping to his feet again.“Thank you for inviting us to dinner,” Katryn
An Idea!
Bowman’s mind was going round and round with thoughts of how he would be able to get the job done. He had already missed his chance at the club to get to know something about Darwin that he would take to Mr. Kinkaid, and now, he needed another means. He could not fail the one man he respected the most in the entire universe. In his hotel room, Bowman could not stop thinking, but all thoughts seemed to be leading him to a dead end. The more time he wasted, the more days he was likely to spend in a city that he really didn’t belong to. Also, he had a company to run for Mr. Kinkaid, even though the man had already informally bequeathed it to him. After hours of thinking and almost developing a headache in the process, Bowman eventually came to a conclusion! In less than an hour, he arrived at Mr. Kinkaid’s residence. His heart began to race very fast as soon as he got into the compound with his rented car and driver, all thanks to Katryn Kinkaid. Bowman knew that Mr. Kinkaid was at the c
The Look
“I think I could get a table for us,” Darwin had answered almost immediately. All eyes were still on Bowman, making him uncomfortable.Aside from the fact that the club was everything that Bowman never associated himself with, he wasn’t a man that liked being around many people, which was why he was actually hiding at Mr. Kinkaid’s party, and that had been exactly what had drawn Katryn to him.Maybe if he had simply mingled with everyone else like the other guests, Katryn’s smart eyes would not have picked him out.“This is no place for gentlemen, but I doubt you even understand what that means,” Bowman said, not bothering to mask his condescending tone.He didn’t like Darwin, and finding him here already made him like him less, and Bowman saw that his words made Darwin slightly upset, but he didn’t mind.“You are coming with me,” Bowman said authoritatively.Darwin scoffed in annoyance. “You must think that you are talking to your son, huh,” Darwin retorted. “You cannot just waltz in
