3. Testing New Limits

The first rays of sunlight began to peek over the rooftops, painting the sky in soft shades of orange and gold. Kael opened his eyes and sat up on the thin mat in his small room, feeling more refreshed and energized than he had ever remembered. Normally, after a long day of work and a night of rest, he would still wake up with stiff muscles and lingering fatigue. But today, it was as if every cell in his body had been renewed.

He stretched his arms wide, feeling a surge of strength flow through his limbs. The faint soreness from the accident the night before was completely gone, thanks to the healing potion and the system’s enhancement.

“This is real… it’s all really happening,” Kael whispered to himself, a smile spreading across his face.

As soon as the thought crossed his mind, the familiar semi-transparent blue panel appeared before him, floating gently in the air.

Kael nodded in satisfaction. His stats were already double that of an ordinary person, and he could feel the difference clearly. Before rushing to work, he decided to test just how much his body had changed.

He walked out to the small backyard, where a stack of firewood and a large stone block used for pounding rice lay in one corner. The stone weighed roughly forty kilograms. o

Smething he could barely lift for more than a few seconds before, and certainly not carry around.

Taking a deep breath, Kael bent down, wrapped his hands around the rough edges of the stone, and lifted it straight up.

Thump.

It felt surprisingly light. It was no heavier than lifting a bag of rice that used to weigh half as much. He held it at chest level for ten seconds, then twenty, and finally swung it gently back and forth a few times before setting it down again. Not even a single bead of sweat appeared on his forehead, and his breathing remained steady.

“Unbelievable…” he muttered. “My strength has doubled, maybe even more.”

Next, he wanted to test his speed and agility. He walked to the edge of the yard, marked a starting point, and then began to run. At first, he moved at his usual pace. But it felt like he was walking in slow motion. He pushed harder, lengthening his strides and pumping his arms. In seconds, he was moving faster than any sprint he had ever managed before. The ground beneath his feet seemed to fly past, and he could easily dodge around the obstacles in the small space without losing his balance.

Kael’s eyes lit up. Completing this mission would not only earn him more money and experience but also help him get used to his new body. He quickly changed into simple, comfortable clothes and headed toward the quiet river path near his house, where there were fewer people and more open space.

The morning air was cool and fresh. As soon as he started running, Kael realized how much easier it was now. Before, running even one kilometer would leave him gasping for air, his legs burning with fatigue. Today, it felt as though his body was made for this. His breathing fell into a natural rhythm, his muscles moved smoothly, and energy flowed steadily without dropping.

He kept a steady speed, watching the scenery pass by. Trees, houses, and fields blurred at the edges of his vision. After about fifteen minutes, he estimated he had already covered three kilometers. He didn’t feel tired at all. In fact, he felt as if he could keep going for much longer.

2 km completed… 3 km completed… 4 km completed… The system updated silently in his mind.

When he finally reached the five-kilometer mark, Kael slowed down to a brisk walk, his heart beating normally and his body still brimming with energy.

He didn’t hesitate and immediately assigned the new point to Strength, bringing it up to 9. He felt a subtle warmth spread through his body once more, solidifying his growing power.

On his way back home, Kael’s mind was already thinking ahead. With his current abilities, he could work faster, take on more jobs, and earn far more than before. The heavy debts hanging over his family and his mother’s medical bills no longer felt like impossible mountains. They felt like challenges he could overcome.

When he stepped back into the house, he found his mother, Maria, already awake and sitting up in bed, sipping warm water. She looked over and noticed the bright energy radiating from her son.

“Kael, you look… different today,” she said softly, studying his face. “You seem healthier and more lively than I’ve seen you in months.”

Kael smiled and walked over to sit beside her. “I feel better, Mother. I think a change has come, and things will get better from now on. You just focus on resting and getting stronger yourself.”

Maria reached out and patted his hand gently. “I hope so, son. I hope so.”

After helping his mother prepare breakfast and arranging the small amount of medicine they had left, Kael headed out toward the hardware store where he usually worked. He was eager to see how his new abilities would perform in a real work environment.

As he walked down the street, the system’s voice spoke again.
