4. Earning More Than Expected

The morning sun climbed higher, casting bright golden light over the narrow streets and small shops of the town. Kael walked steadily toward the hardware store where he had worked for nearly two years. In the past, this short walk would have felt heavy and tiring, as if every step carried the full weight of his family’s debts, his mother’s medical bills, and the endless worries that had followed him for months. But today, his strides were light and confident, his chest lifted, and his entire body brimming with a kind of energy he had never known before.

When he pushed open the wooden door of the store, the familiar smell of cement, iron, oil, and fresh paint greeted him. His boss, Mr. Hendra, a middle-aged man with a stern but fair expression and a thick mustache, looked up from the large ledger he was checking behind the counter.

“You’re early today, Kael,” Mr. Hendra said, raising an eyebrow in mild surprise. “Usually you drag yourself in looking half-asleep and worn out before the day even starts.”

Kael offered a calm, steady smile. “I rested well last night, Sir. And honestly, I feel much better now than I have in a long time. I’m fully ready to work.”

“Good attitude,” the boss replied, tossing him a pair of thick canvas work gloves. “Listen carefully. We have a big delivery coming in just a few minutes. Five hundred bags of cement, twenty heavy iron beams, and several large crates of floor and wall tiles. It’s going to be heavy, backbreaking work. If you manage to finish it all properly and before noon, I’ll give you a generous bonus on top of your daily wage.”

In the past, hearing this much work would have made Kael’s shoulders slump. It would have taken him the whole day to finish alone, leaving his arms and back aching so badly he could barely walk straight by evening. But now, with his improved stats and the quiet confidence given by the system, he just nodded calmly. “Understood, Sir. I’ll get it done.”

Within minutes, a large delivery truck rumbled to a stop right outside the store. Two workers from the transport company hopped down and began unloading the goods. Each bag of cement weighed a full fifty kilograms. Heavy enough that even two strong men usually worked together to carry just one.

Kael walked over without hesitation, wrapped his gloved hands around the straps of a bag, and lifted it onto his shoulder in one smooth, effortless motion. He didn’t even let out a grunt or show any sign of strain.

The two delivery men paused mid-movement and stared at him in disbelief. “Hey, young man, are you sure you can carry that alone?” one asked, stepping closer. “That bag is way too heavy for one person, you could hurt your back.”

“I’ve gotten used to heavy work lately,” Kael replied simply, before turning and walking steadily into the storage room, stacking the bag neatly in its proper place.

Back outside, he reached for a second bag, then a third, moving at a consistent, steady pace. To everyone watching, it looked as though he was carrying light sacks of rice instead of dense, heavy cement. His posture remained upright, his breathing stayed even and regular, and there was no shaking or slowing down as he moved back and forth.

Mr. Hendra, who stood in the doorway observing closely, rubbed his eyes and adjusted his glasses, wondering if he was seeing things correctly. He had known Kael for years as a hardworking but ordinary young man, not someone who possessed this kind of incredible strength and stamina.

In just three hours, a time that would normally take two strong men a full working day, Kael had finished unloading and organizing everything. He wiped a thin layer of sweat from his forehead, far less sweat than he would have produced doing just a quarter of this work before receiving the system.

“Everything is stacked and arranged, Sir,” Kael said, returning to the counter. “All items are secure and ready for sale.”

Mr. Hendra walked through the storage area to inspect. Every pile was neat, stable, and easy to access. He turned back to Kael, clearly impressed and surprised by the transformation.

“You did in three hours what usually takes us two days,” he said, reaching into his wallet and counting out the money. “Here’s your daily wage. And I’m giving you more than double the bonus I promised. You’ve more than earned it.”

He handed Kael a sealed envelope. When Kael opened it, he saw an amount far larger than what he usually received.

Customers who came in found him helpful, quick, and attentive, and several mentioned to the boss that Kael seemed sharper and more energetic than before.

Around noon, when the store was quiet, the system chimed again.

The afternoon passed smoothly. He helped customers find exactly what they needed, carried heavy purchases to their vehicles, and kept the store clean and orderly. By the time evening came, he had finished all tasks ahead of schedule, and three regular customers had specifically told Mr. Hendra how helpful and fast Kael had been.

As the sun began to set and painted the sky in shades of orange and purple, Kael walked home with money in his pocket and a much lighter heart. He now had enough to buy medicine and nutritious food for his mother, while still keeping some savings aside. More importantly, he had proven that with the system, his hard work would finally bring real results.
