Frank stormed out of his office with fire burning in his chest. His footsteps hit the hallway floor in hard, angry beats.

The entire building was quiet, but the echo of his rage seemed to follow him like a shadow he could not escape.

He pushed through the doors and stepped outside, breathing fast, breathing sharp. The cool evening air touched his face, but it did nothing to calm him.

His hands clenched at his sides as he walked. He felt like something inside him was breaking apart piece by piece.

He had loved Alexa. There was no doubt about that. He had loved her with a love so deep that it almost hurt to think about.

She had been the center of his life, the only person who made him feel seen. But love did not stop the pain.

Love did not erase humiliation. She had crushed him. And worst of all, she had not even looked back.

He reached into his pocket for his car keys, ready to go anywhere but here. Anywhere that would take him away from the memories still fresh in his mind, then his phone rang.

A sharp vibration against his thigh. He froze. No caller ID. His brow tightened. Who would call him at a moment like this?

After a long second, he lifted the phone and answered. “Who is this?” His voice sounded tight and strained.

A deep voice came through, smooth and calm. “My name is Leon. I am the CEO of Watford Incorporation. I heard today is your wedding anniversary with Mrs. Alexa. As a longtime supporter of your union, I wanted to present both of you with a gift.”

Frank’s jaw tightened. Alexa’s name slammed into him like a heavy punch. “Keep your gift,” Frank snapped. “There is no marriage anymore.”

For a moment, there was silence. Then Leon spoke again, and this time his voice sounded shocked. “Wait. What are you saying? You and Alexa are divorced?”

Frank laughed, but it was a bitter, broken sound. “Yes. It happened recently. She said she wanted a bigger vision for her life… with her new lover, Frederick Maurice.”

His tongue felt like it held poison. Saying the words made him feel sick. Even now, after everything, he hated that she still lived inside his thoughts, that her face came into his head so fast, so easily.

“I am truly sorry,” Leon said, his voice softer now. “I did not know. That is unfortunate.”

Frank frowned. Something about this entire call felt strange. Too strange. Who was this man? Why would a billionaire CEO he had never met be monitoring his marriage?

Leon continued speaking. “I have a meeting with my board right now, but I want to see you later this evening. Can you come to my penthouse?”

Frank’s suspicion grew. “And who exactly are you again?”

“I told you,” Leon said smoothly. “Leon. CEO of Watford Incorporation. I know this is our first time talking, but I have followed your marriage for years. I was always curious about how it would turn out.”

Frank’s stomach tightened. Why would a stranger follow his marriage? Why now, when everything had fallen apart? Why call him on this exact day?

Nothing about this made sense, but something inside him, curiosity, anger, or maybe desperation, pushed him to answer.

“Fine,” Frank said slowly. “Send me the address.”

The call ended. A moment later, his phone beeped. A message. An address he had never seen before.

Frank stared at it for a few seconds, breathing deeply. Something about the whole situation felt wrong. But he walked anyway. He needed answers. Maybe Leon knew something. Maybe he would explain everything.

He left the building and headed down the road. The street grew quieter with every step he took.

Buildings thinned out. The air felt heavier. His instincts whispered warnings he did not understand, then he heard footsteps behind him.

He looked over his shoulder. Two men. Both tall. Both wearing dark jackets. Their pace matched his. Their shadows stretched long behind them on the empty street.

Frank quickened his steps. The men quickened theirs. His heart started pounding. Something was wrong. Very wrong.

He took a sharp left into a narrow side street, hoping to shake them off. But before he could move another step, one of the men lunged forward.

A fist hit Frank’s jaw so hard that everything spun. Colors twisted. Light bent. The ground rushed up to meet him. He tasted blood in his mouth.

Before he could recover, the two men fell on him. Their fists struck his face, his back, his stomach. Their boots slammed into his ribs.

Pain shot through his entire body. He tried to fight back, but they were too strong. Too fast. Too determined.

“Give us the phone,” one of them growled, pressing a cold blade against his throat. “Now.”

Frank froze. His breath came out shaky. He had no choice. With a trembling hand, he reached into his pocket and handed the phone over.

The man snatched it, smirked, and kicked him hard in the side. “Stay down if you want to live,” he hissed.

Then both men disappeared into the dark street, swallowed by the night as if they had never been there.

Frank lay on the ground for a few seconds, panting, fighting the urge to pass out. Every part of his body screamed in pain.

His arm shook when he tried to push himself up. His hip felt like it had been crushed, but he refused to stay down.

He slowly stood, gripping the wall to steady himself. He could not call for help now, the phone was gone. All he had was the address he had memorized earlier.

He forced himself forward, dragging his aching body down the lonely road. Each step felt like a hammer slamming into his bones, but he kept walking.

Minutes stretched. Darkness deepened. The world felt cold and empty.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Frank reached the address. He froze.

Before him stood a towering penthouse mansion, white, brilliant, and breathtaking.

The building rose into the sky like a palace made of light. It looked expensive. More expensive than anything he had ever seen.

No house in the city even came close. Whoever lived here… had power. Real power.

Security guards stood by the gate. When Frank introduced himself, they exchanged a glance, then nodded and opened the gate.

A soldier, an actual soldier, walked up and guided Frank through the massive compound.

The place was filled with trimmed gardens, glowing lights, and silent fountains. Everything looked perfect, almost unreal.

Frank followed the soldier to the backyard. There, by a wide blue swimming pool, stood Leon.

He was tall, with tanned skin and slicked-back hair. His suit looked expensive. His expression looked calm, almost too calm. It was the smile of someone who knew exactly what he wanted.

“You finally made it,” Leon said warmly. “I thought you weren’t coming.”

Frank’s lips twisted bitterly. “I was attacked on the road,” he said. “Two men jumped me. They took my phone. I had no choice.”

Leon’s expression darkened. “I am sorry for what happened. Rest assured, I will make it up to you. You will be compensated.”

A servant walked over and placed wine and glasses on a small table beside them. Frank noticed Leon’s eyes shift. The man was staring at his neck.

At Frank’s necklace. Leon’s smile faded. “That necklace,” he said slowly. “Where did you get it?”

Frank instinctively touched it. It was a small silver chain with a strange charm attached to it. He had worn it for years.

“It was a gift from my mother,” Frank said quietly. “She gave it to me before she passed away. She never told me what it meant. Only that one day I would understand.”

Leon was silent. His face showed something new, something like fear, mixed with surprise. Then he cleared his throat and spoke again, but his voice was lower now.

“Your mother was right. She knew this day would come. She knew exactly what was hidden.”

Frank frowned. “What do you mean?”

Leon leaned closer. His voice dropped to a whisper. “I am not the real CEO of Watford Incorporation.”

Frank blinked. Confusion spread through him. “What?”

Leon continued, “The real CEO died long ago. Before his death, he told me about a hidden heir. Someone who would return when the time was right. Someone who would inherit everything.”

Frank felt cold all over. He swallowed hard. “And what does that have to do with me?”

Leon’s eyes locked onto his, sharp and certain. “You,” Leon said. “You are the heir.”

The words hit Frank like lightning. His chest tightened. His fingers trembled. His mind struggled to understand.

“You must have the wrong person,” Frank whispered. “There is no way I’m the heir you’re talking about.”

But Leon only smiled, slowly, knowingly, almost as if he had been waiting years for this exact moment.

Frank stared at him, feeling the world tilt under his feet. Everything in his life, his heartbreak, the attack, the strange call, everything now pointed to this moment.

And deep inside, he felt it. Nothing would ever be the same again.

His mind drifted far away, until something pulled him back like a blade cutting through fog.His eyes froze. There, in the middle of the dance floor, were Frederick and Alexa.Frederick’s hand rested boldly on Alexa’s waist. Alexa leaned into him like she had always belonged in that position. I won’t let it go. I promise you that.”He tightened his hold on Alexa’s arm. Alexa lifted her chin proudly, almost as if she thought she had won something. Together, they walked away quickly. Their footsteps echoed loudly in the wide hall until the sound faded and the heavy doors slammed behind them.Frank leaned against the shopping cart filled with clothes and let out a small, surprised laugh. He did not laugh because he was happy. He laughed because the sight of Frederick retreating so easily was s
