Chapter 8: Requesting for more money.

Manager Destiny sat quietly, waiting for Alfred Lucas to continue.

Alfred took a deep breath.

If he couldn’t help his wife’s company survive this crisis, then moving forward with his own project would become much harder. It would create more problems than solutions.

He finally spoke.

"My wife’s company is facing a major financial issue. They need nine hundred thousand today. That’s why I’m asking for the additional amount to be released immediately."

He didn’t try to dress it up or hide the truth. There was no way to make it sound less serious.

Manager Destiny looked at him without speaking. Her expression didn’t change, but there was something unreadable in her eyes. She waited silently for him to continue.

Alfred paused, then explained further.

"The reason I’m being this direct is simple. If her company goes under, it will affect everything I’m doing too. My project relies on certain supply chains and logistics contacts her company has been handling. If that falls apart, I lose those resources, and my plan will collapse before it starts."

He kept his voice steady.

"This isn’t just about helping her. It’s about protecting the foundation of the project we agreed on."

Manager Destiny didn’t say anything right away.

The air felt heavier.

Alfred’s heart started beating faster. He knew he had taken a risk by being so honest. It might cause her to walk away from the deal entirely.

But he had met enough people to know when to trust his gut.

He believed the woman in front of him, young as she was, wasn’t just a normal business manager. She had a sharp mind and a calm presence.

And right now, the most stable and honest move was to tell her everything exactly as it was.)

A moment later, Manager Destiny nodded slowly.

"Alright. I’ll be honest with you. I’m going to take the risk and go along with it."

She extended her fair hand across the table.

Alfred Lucas was stunned for a moment, then quickly reached out and shook her hand.

"In the next thirty minutes, I want you to rewrite the financing intent document," she said seriously. "We will sign it after that. But let me make one thing clear. The part about the eight hundred thousand? You can’t write that it’s for your wife’s company. Find another explanation. Something business-related. Keep it professional."

"Thank you," Alfred said quietly.

He didn’t say anything else. He immediately pulled out his laptop and started working on the revision.

Half an hour later, the new financing contract was ready and signed by both parties.

Manager Destiny reviewed the papers again and gave a small nod of approval.

"You already know how I operate," she said. "I don’t even want your partner to know about this part of the deal. Keep the reason for the extra funds completely confidential. If the wrong people hear about it, everyone involved will face unnecessary problems."

"I understand," Alfred replied.

"Good. Don’t disappoint me. I have other matters to handle, so I’m leaving now. The funds will be transferred to your company account before the bank closes today."

"Thank you."

"And one more thing," she said, pausing before she stood up. "I do not want anyone else looking at this capital transfer. That includes your wife. If this leaks to the wrong ears, it’ll be trouble for both of us."

After saying that, Manager Destiny stood and left the café.

Even though she had said the funds would be transferred on time, Alfred couldn’t relax. He didn’t tell Jennifer anything in advance either. He knew better than to speak before the money was in the account.

Not long after, he returned to the recruitment event and began helping Mr. Feng conduct interviews.

By around four thirty in the afternoon, he logged into the public company account again, but the money still hadn’t arrived.

Alfred’s brows furrowed. His fingers tapped against the table as he waited. He didn’t dare call Manager Destiny directly. That would seem too anxious.

"Please don’t let this drag until tomorrow," he muttered under his breath.

"What do you mean by that?" Mr. Feng asked, walking in with a plastic bag of takeout. He sat down and began packing his things with Alfred.

"Nothing important. We haven’t picked a company office location yet. I think we should look around at the nearby buildings later."

As soon as Alfred mentioned it, Mr. Feng snapped his fingers.

"I just remembered. There’s a two-floor commercial building nearby that’s been empty for a while. No one wants to rent it because they say it has bad feng shui. But it’s cheap. Very cheap. Why don’t we go take a look?"

Alfred’s eyes lit up at the idea.

Bad luck was one thing. But human traffic and location were more important. If the area was busy, the so-called bad feng shui didn’t mean much.

"Let’s go check it out."

He decided not to refresh the public account again just yet. Instead, he helped Mr. Feng clean up their table and left with him to see the building.

The two-floor commercial unit had clearly been unused for a long time. The outside walls looked worn. The windows were dusty. There was only one older man guarding the entrance, and no other people in sight.

As they walked closer, the gatekeeper stood up and came toward them.

"What do you two want?" the man asked in a rough tone.

"We want to ask if this place is for rent," Mr. Feng said politely.

The old man’s attitude changed immediately. His eyes lit up.

"Rent? Yes, it’s available!" he said with a wide grin. "This is a great spot. It’s been sitting for too long, but today might be my lucky day."

He had been trying to rent the place out for months. It was a large space, priced cheaply, but still no one wanted it. He knew he’d earn a commission if he could close this deal.

"What’s the price?" Mr. Feng asked.

"Not expensive at all," the old man replied. "Three hundred thousand a year. That includes water and electricity. No deposit needed."

Three hundred thousand?

Alfred quickly did the math in his head. The building was around two thousand square meters in total. That meant the rent was just over twenty thousand per month.

That was far lower than expected for city center property.

"Sir, is it alright if we take a look inside?" Alfred asked.

"Of course, of course. Come with me," the old man said excitedly. He was thrilled they hadn’t even tried to negotiate the price yet.

Alfred and Mr. Feng followed him inside.

The interior clearly hadn’t been touched in a long time. There was dust on everything, but the structure itself was solid. The office partitions were already built and still looked new. The layout was clean and functional. It just needed cleaning.

"What do you think?" the old man asked proudly. "This used to be a company space before they shut down. I used to work here before I took over the caretaker role."

Seeing how satisfied they looked, he wasted no time in trying to close the deal.

But since the eight hundred thousand dollars borrowed in Jennifer’s name had not been used for her company, Alfred decided it could be allocated for something practical. This was not embezzlement after all it was for w
