[I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get you into trouble.]
Shaun sighed. "That's enough. I get it. I don't want to hear you whining."
This isn't what he expected after waking up in another world with two sets of memories. It felt odd to be two years younger. He had been twenty when he died. Well, he had almost been twenty one. Now he was eighteen again. The idea made him grimace, as he didn't have any fond memories of that age. If he had to pick an age, he would rather be twenty one or twenty two despite never reaching either age.
[Well, I heard what your father said. He wanted you to help prepare gifts that are supposed to be sent to the heroes.]
"I see. The nobility want to butter up the heroes," Shaun said.
That made sense. Since the heroes were so important, it meant that they needed to do whatever they could to earn their favor. The heroes were supposed to be stronger than the average human, so getting on their bad side would be a bad idea. Shaun considered purposely messing up to turn his family into a joke. It would be great to see them kicked down a notch and become a running joke among the elite.
It wasn't like it would affect him that much. He couldn't be looked down any further than he already was. However, the beating he would get wouldn't be worth it. Honestly, he was a bit surprised that his father would even ask him to help with such an important event. It would have been one thing if he was told to pack the gifts. It was another to tell him to prepare them.
This wouldn't be the first time he was forced to do servant work. He couldn't count the number of times he had been forced to clean and fetch things. Of course it would never be in public where it would negatively affect the family. Or at least it wouldn't be presented as servant work. They would make it sound like a request when it was actually a demand.
In any case, his father should want him to keep out of the situation so he wouldn't somehow ruin their reputation. It should be his siblings determining the gifts that should be presented. The whole thing didn't make any sense, but he decided not to think too hard about it. Trying to make sense of their thoughts was pointless.
[The user doesn't seem to have positive feelings towards his family.]
He snorted. That was an understatement. In his eyes, they were all trash. Even his deceased mother was garbage, from what he remembered. She had crawled into the baron's bed, hoping for a chance to elevate her status. Of course, her plan failed horribly. She was treated poorly by everyone and cursed him as she died giving birth to him. She didn't deserve to be called his mother.
There was only one mother and father in his heart, and they certainly weren't the ones in his current life. Thinking about them made his heart ache. He hadn't had the heart to tell his parents that he was being bullied by the rich kids at the college. Shaun hadn't wanted to worry them and thought he could deal with it on his own, but he died in the end. He couldn't imagine what they must have felt after finding out about his death.
His hands curled into fists as his face darkened. It wasn't fair. While his bullies got away scott free, his parents would have to bury him. If only there was a way for him to go back or at least have his final words with them. It would even be better if he could take revenge on them for killing him. Unfortunately, he didn't think he would ever get the chance.
If it was like all the webnovels he read, he would never be able to go back to his previous world. He had to let it go and focus on his current life, which meant figuring out what to get for the arriving heroes. Considering his situation, he couldn't really gift anything worthwhile. It seemed like his "father" was setting him up for failure. Sometimes he wondered if his so called family had anything better to do besides harassing him.
[Does the user need assistance?]
"No," he immediately said, unconsciously holding a hand to wave it off.
Shaun didn't want to take any chances of the system causing him bigger problems. It had already gotten him in trouble once today, and it was only morning. If it tried helping him again, he was afraid to see what would happen.
[Does the user not trust me?]
Did he need to answer? It had said it itself that it was a new system that had no idea what it was doing. While he was keeping his expectations low and wasn't expecting much, he wanted it to at least not cause him any trouble.
[The system understands. It'll take the user's lead in such matters.]
He sighed. "Okay, please don't interfere unless I ask you to."
[Okay. The system promises.]
Staring at the message, Shaun felt as if he was a father lecturing his child. He was far too young to have a kid, much less an inanimate thing. With another sigh, he set off to find anything of value to pack for the heroes. As he expected, the servants weren't making it easy for him, constantly finding excuses to stay away or accidentally stopping him.
It was only after repeatedly telling them that he would report them to his father for trying to sabotage the family that they finally relented. Once everything was settled, he watched as his family prepared to leave for the castle to greet the heroes. As he watched from the sidelines, he planned to set off to make his own plans when the system popped up.
[The quest. The user must complete the quest.]
Shaun had forgotten about that. "What do you expect me to do? I'm not invited."
[The system has already provided the Invisibility Ring.]
After a moment, he asked, "How effective is the Invisibility Ring?"

Chapter 19: Trauma
Instantly, everything had gone back to normal. Shaun was no longer looking at himself and his demonic looking bullies. He blinked several times as he looked for someone who had spoken up. His eyes fell on a familiar man. It was one of the other heroes. Shaun hadn't expected any of them to step up and interfere when the majority of the heroes were in the same group.A part of him felt bitter. Back in his first life, no one had stepped up for him. Everyone always looked away, as they had been afraid to be the new target if they interfered. Of course he would have done the same, but it still left a bitter aftertaste knowing that no one had been willing to help him. No one had even tried like the hero was currently doing."What do you want?" one of the bullies asked. "Can't you see we're busy?""Why are you bothering him? He's trying to do his job," a woman said as she crossed her arms."We're heroes. It's his job to serve us," one of the female bullies said.
Chapter 18: Chance Encounter
Becky's face burned from humiliation. It wasn't her fault that she had dirtied her clothes in the heat of the moment. Shaun had been looming over her with the threat of death hanging over her neck. If it weren't for that, she would have never made such a mess of herself. Then she realized the other part of his sentence as her face scrunched up in confusion again."I'm returning to the mansion? You're letting me go?" she asked. He scoffed. "Do you really think I'll let you go without any consequences? No. You said it yourself. You'll do anything to live, so you're my slave now.""What?" Becky blurted out as she scrambled to her feet. "What are you talking about?""It's just as I said. You dared to cross me, so you're paying the price. You're my slave until I decide to get rid of you," he said. She stared at him for several long moments before saying, "You can't be serious. Slavery isn't even legal in the kingdom.""If it involves magic, it's binding," he reminded her. While it was true
Chapter 17: Second Target Acquired
"What?" Becky blurted out."You heard me. I want you to submit to me and do my bidding. It's the least you can do after everything you've done," Shaun said."I don't know what you're talking about. What have I done to deserve this?" Becky said as her eyes darted around."Don't play dumb." Shaun pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and watched Becky become pale. "You've been selling information about the mansion to anyone willing to pay. You understand what that means, right?""Y-you're wrong," she stammered. "I'm loyal to the family."Shaun scoffed. "Don't even bother. I know there aren't any loyal bones in any of the servants. They only care about what profits them."Seeing that she wasn't going to convince him that she was loyal, she switched tactics. "Fine. I did share gossip, but that's it. There's nothing wrong with gossip.""That's true if it was simple gossip. You might not have been selling top secret information, but you still revealed a few of your masters' habits." H
Chapter 16: Confronting the Second Target
Seeing Kellie turn pale, Shaun smirked. It seemed that she hadn't considered how bad things would turn out for her if his disappearance was discovered. Depending on how she did her job and how his orders affected her actions, she would be the prime suspect in his disappearance. She might even be killed, so if she didn't want that to happen, she needed to do her job properly.Of course, that was on the assumption that anyone would notice his disappearance. Shaun doubted it, but he had Kellie cover for him for a reason. Even though he doubted she would be needed, it never hurt to be careful. It was better to be overprepared than to be underprepared. He refused to screw up after making so many preparations because of one simple thing."Dismissed," he ordered.Reluctantly, she left. Kellie clearly wanted to know more or protest, but she no longer had that kind of power. With her gone, Shaun got prepared for his trip outside the mansion. He knew a few ways to get outside without getting ca
Chapter 15: Several Days Later
[Why didn't the user retaliate? Doesn't the user want revenge against her?]"Of course," Shaun muttered. "However, it's not that simple."[You got revenge on the maid.]"You might not understand since you're not human, but it's not that simple. I could have slapped her back or blackmailed her to leave me alone. However, the consequences wouldn't be worth it. I would know," he said as he recalled his past life.Shaun hadn't been a complete punching bag in the beginning. When he was first being bullied, he did try to push back. Well, not right away. Shaun originally thought they would leave him alone if he ignored them. Of course, that wasn't what happened. Instead, they saw it as him being a doormat. That's when he changed tactics. Surely, they would leave him alone if they thought he wasn't worth targeting. In fact, he had tried to collect evidence of their bullying to report them. That should have surely scared them off if they knew they were going to get in trouble. Unfortunately, t
Chapter 14: A Slap to the Face
Unfortunately, Shaun was forced to stop following her when he saw that she had returned to the kitchens. There was no way he could confront her while there were other servants around. He would need to find another opportunity. Luckily, one of the weaknesses the system gave him was a certain habit of hers that would leave her vulnerable to him.Seeing that he had no reason to stay there, he chose to head back to his room. Wandering the halls any longer would only make him suspicious, as he typically stayed in his room except for a few occasions. Slowly making his way back to his room, he ignored the servants he passed by. However, that was just an appearance he was putting on. Out of the corner of his eye, he made sure to memorize as much as he could about the servants he passed by.While he was in his room, he could come up with more plans and strategies for other targets to pass the time. Shaun knew better than to put all his eggs in one basket. An opportunity could also appear when
