"Halt," the guards said as they stopped the carriages that were approaching. "We need to perform a check."

The Rodriquez family scowled as they reluctantly let the guards do their job of inspecting the carriages for anything suspicious. After looking for several minutes, they couldn't find anything wrong and sent the Rodriquez family on their way. What none of them realized was that there was a stowaway hitching a ride on top of one of the carriages.

Shaun calmly observed his surroundings. He hadn't been allowed to leave his house except for a few rare occasions, and none of them had been anywhere near the castle. His family had probably been afraid to let him get so close to such important figures where he could ruin their reputation. Well, he intended to make this outing a memorable one.

Of course he had to be smart about it, or else his family would come back and blame him even though there was no reason to suspect him. In their minds, he was a plague on their house. In his opinion, the family was rotten to the core along with the rest of the nobility. Shaun couldn't honestly name a single good person among the nobility. No, if what he knew from his previous life was true, then that was an understatement.

As the carriages finally rolled to a stop, he waited for his family to get off and make their way to the castle before jumping down. He winced as his landing made a noise, making the guards scan the area. Quietly following his family into the castle, he made sure to keep some distance in case he needed to move quickly. He couldn't afford to get caught.

After what seemed like ages, they finally reached their destination. Shaun wasn't sure what he was expecting when he chose to follow. What he didn't expect was to see the heroes lounging around, acting like they were royalty in front of the nobility. Even though they were heroes, it was quite insulting to see them boss around the servants like they owned the castle.

Glancing at the other nobles that had gathered to see the king and prince, he could see they had fake smiles on their faces. They were probably seething on the inside because of the heroes' actions. Well, in his opinion, if he were one of the heroes summoned, he would make demands too. It wasn't like they were brought here willingly.

Turning his gaze back to the heroes, he tried to get a better look at them. Since he was in the back, it was hard to make out what they looked like. He counted fifteen of them, but it was possible that he might have missed someone or counted someone twice. Also, their backs were to him, so he couldn't see their faces even if he wanted to.

There was a loud laugh that nearly stopped his heart. It couldn't be. There was no way he could be here. It was just his imagination. There was no way one of his bullies had been summoned as one of the heroes. There was just no way. That's when the laughing man turned around, and he caught a glimpse of his face. Shaun instantly recognized him.

There was no way he wouldn't recognize him. He could recognize Jason anywhere. How could he forget when the man had been one of the people who made him miserable? A sharp pain in his hand distracted him, and he saw that he had dug his nails into his palm. There were lines of blood from how tightly he clenched his fist. Staring at the cuts, Shaun could feel the muscles in his face twitching.

How could someone like Jason be summoned as a hero? If anything, that man could only be summoned as a villain. Looking at the other people, Shaun slowly began to recognize each person. Out of the fifteen people, ten of them were his bullies and ex girlfriends. Out of all the chances, they had been summoned here in this country to be heroes.

Forcing himself to leave the area before he gave himself away, he waited until he was by himself to ask, "Did you know about this?"

[Is the user talking to me?]

"Yes," Shaun snapped. "Did you know they would be summoned here? Is that why you encouraged me to come here?"

[The system has no control over who is summoned. The system was just created after the user regained their past life's memories.]

The system had mentioned it before. In that case, there was no way the system could have been involved since he regained his memories after the heroes had been summoned. However, that didn't excuse the fact that the system had kept quiet about it. It could have told him instead of sending him here to see his hated enemies parading around as heroes.

[The system deduced that the user wouldn't believe the system. Also, the system determined that one of the user's desires was to get revenge against them. That is why the system provided a quest.]

"What does the quest have anything to do with getting revenge?" he muttered.

[Let me show you.]

[Quest]

[Meet the Heroes]

[You have met the heroes and discovered that they are your hated enemies.]

[Quest Rewards]

[You have unlocked the ability to capture and enslave targets.]

He stared at the screen blankly for a few moments before he asked, "What is this?"

[In order to help the user, the system has determined the best reward. The user can now capture targets and either turn them into slaves or whatever the user desires.]

Even though he had been caught off guard by the information, Shaun found the idea appealing. The thought that he could turn his bullies and ex girlfriends into his slaves acted as a temporary balm to his anger. However, he couldn't let himself get too caught up in the quest reward. He had long since learned that things weren't that easy.

Instantly, everything had gone back to normal. Shaun was no longer looking at himself and his demonic looking bullies. He blinked several times as he looked for someone who had spoken up. His eyes fell on a familiar man. It was one of the other heroes. Shaun hadn't expected any of them to step up and interfere when the majority of the heroes were in the same group.A part of him felt bitter. Back in his first life, no one had stepped up for him. Everyone always looked away, as they had been afraid to be the new target if they interfered. Of course he would have done the same, but it still left a bitter aftertaste knowing that no one had been willing to help him. No one had even tried like the hero was currently doing."What do you want?" one of the bullies asked. "Can't you see we're busy?""Why are you bothering him? He's trying to do his job," a woman said as she crossed her arms."We're heroes. It's his job to serve us," one of the female bullies said.

Becky's face burned from humiliation. It wasn't her fault that she had dirtied her clothes in the heat of the moment. Shaun had been looming over her with the threat of death hanging over her neck. If it weren't for that, she would have never made such a mess of herself. Then she realized the other part of his sentence as her face scrunched up in confusion again."I'm returning to the mansion? You're letting me go?" she asked. He scoffed. "Do you really think I'll let you go without any consequences? No. You said it yourself. You'll do anything to live, so you're my slave now.""What?" Becky blurted out as she scrambled to her feet. "What are you talking about?""It's just as I said. You dared to cross me, so you're paying the price. You're my slave until I decide to get rid of you," he said. She stared at him for several long moments before saying, "You can't be serious. Slavery isn't even legal in the kingdom.""If it involves magic, it's binding," he reminded her. While it was true

"What?" Becky blurted out."You heard me. I want you to submit to me and do my bidding. It's the least you can do after everything you've done," Shaun said."I don't know what you're talking about. What have I done to deserve this?" Becky said as her eyes darted around."Don't play dumb." Shaun pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and watched Becky become pale. "You've been selling information about the mansion to anyone willing to pay. You understand what that means, right?""Y-you're wrong," she stammered. "I'm loyal to the family."Shaun scoffed. "Don't even bother. I know there aren't any loyal bones in any of the servants. They only care about what profits them."Seeing that she wasn't going to convince him that she was loyal, she switched tactics. "Fine. I did share gossip, but that's it. There's nothing wrong with gossip.""That's true if it was simple gossip. You might not have been selling top secret information, but you still revealed a few of your masters' habits." H

Seeing Kellie turn pale, Shaun smirked. It seemed that she hadn't considered how bad things would turn out for her if his disappearance was discovered. Depending on how she did her job and how his orders affected her actions, she would be the prime suspect in his disappearance. She might even be killed, so if she didn't want that to happen, she needed to do her job properly.Of course, that was on the assumption that anyone would notice his disappearance. Shaun doubted it, but he had Kellie cover for him for a reason. Even though he doubted she would be needed, it never hurt to be careful. It was better to be overprepared than to be underprepared. He refused to screw up after making so many preparations because of one simple thing."Dismissed," he ordered.Reluctantly, she left. Kellie clearly wanted to know more or protest, but she no longer had that kind of power. With her gone, Shaun got prepared for his trip outside the mansion. He knew a few ways to get outside without getting ca

[Why didn't the user retaliate? Doesn't the user want revenge against her?]"Of course," Shaun muttered. "However, it's not that simple."[You got revenge on the maid.]"You might not understand since you're not human, but it's not that simple. I could have slapped her back or blackmailed her to leave me alone. However, the consequences wouldn't be worth it. I would know," he said as he recalled his past life.Shaun hadn't been a complete punching bag in the beginning. When he was first being bullied, he did try to push back. Well, not right away. Shaun originally thought they would leave him alone if he ignored them. Of course, that wasn't what happened. Instead, they saw it as him being a doormat. That's when he changed tactics. Surely, they would leave him alone if they thought he wasn't worth targeting. In fact, he had tried to collect evidence of their bullying to report them. That should have surely scared them off if they knew they were going to get in trouble. Unfortunately, t

  • Chapter 14: A Slap to the Face

Unfortunately, Shaun was forced to stop following her when he saw that she had returned to the kitchens. There was no way he could confront her while there were other servants around. He would need to find another opportunity. Luckily, one of the weaknesses the system gave him was a certain habit of hers that would leave her vulnerable to him.Seeing that he had no reason to stay there, he chose to head back to his room. Wandering the halls any longer would only make him suspicious, as he typically stayed in his room except for a few occasions. Slowly making his way back to his room, he ignored the servants he passed by. However, that was just an appearance he was putting on. Out of the corner of his eye, he made sure to memorize as much as he could about the servants he passed by.While he was in his room, he could come up with more plans and strategies for other targets to pass the time. Shaun knew better than to put all his eggs in one basket. An opportunity could also appear when
