When Luke didn't answer right away, she huffed as she uncrossed her arms and placed them on her hips. "I see. So that's how it is."

Luke should have known it wouldn't be that easy to probe her for answers. While she was younger than him and not as experienced as him, she had still gone through a traumatizing ordeal that must have heightened her awareness to prevent it from happening again. Well, at least she didn't outright attack him or otherwise show any signs of hostility toward him. It meant she was still open to talks.

If she had decided he was a threat, she would have already done something once whatever her suspicions were were confirmed. However, he still had to keep his guard up, especially since he wasn't alone. He felt Grace fidget a bit behind him, but she was wisely keeping out of the conversation. With him standing in between them, Violet would have to go through him to get to Grace.
