Jacqueline stared at Billy in disbelief. "I would never do that. I would never ever side with that horrible woman. Anyone who could cheat on their husband who has only been faithful is trash."Hearing her say that was a huge relief. Since he didn't get a chance to talk to Jacqueline in his previous life about the illusion before she died, it had sort of hanged over his head. Even though he knew what kind of person she was, the illusion had shaken him up a bit by poking at his original insecurity, which was her not taking him seriously."I can't believe you even thought for a moment that I would turn my back on you," she muttered."Sorry, but it is a bit unbelievable if someone came up to you and said the zombie apocalypse was going to happen," he said."You're not just anyone, though. We've known each other, so of course I would believe you," she pointed out. "If it was a stranger, I would obviously not believe them."She made a good argument. "I understand."Jacqueline crossed her ar
At the end of Billy's story, the elderly woman was the first to speak. "That's quite a tale. It's hard to imagine all of that happening. That was the kind of reaction he had expected from Jacqueline. Of course, she had to prove herself different and accept it without batting an eye. Now the question was what the elderly couple would do now after hearing Billy's abridged version of what happened. Would they decide that he was just making things up and ask him to leave? Would they take him seriously, like Jacqueline did?"In fact, it sounds complete nonsense," the elderly man said before getting elbowed into the side by the old woman."What the old coot is saying is that he can't believe it either," she said. Her answer wasn't much of an answer. It still didn't tell him what they intended to do with the information he provided. Were they going to accept him or not? Unable to take it anymore, he decided that he should take matters into his own hands instead of waiting for their judgment.
"So, what's your plan?" the elderly woman asked as Billy took a seat at the table.Billy wasn't surprised that she jumped right to the heart of the matter. "I've already told you about what happened, so we will need to prepare for the events that will happen.""But how are you sure they will happen?" the elderly man asked. "Things are already different, right?""While it's true that the events aren't always the same, the system always stays the same. The information they give us doesn't change," Billy said. The elderly couple looked doubtful as Jacqueline asked, "You mentioned that I was able to obtain a power and system, but do you know how I did it?"Shaking his head, Billy said, "No, I don't. You didn't get it in the other lives, so I'm not sure what the exact criteria is for you to obtain your power."Jacqueline looked disappointed. "It would be handy if I had my teleportation power. We could accomplish so much with it."He quite frankly agreed. It was such an amazing power that c
Billy thought they had prepared well for what was to happen. After all, there wasn't much they needed to do after barricading the house. Training was a must, and making sure they were armed to the teeth was easy to do. They didn't have to worry about supplies, and they had someone to always check the cameras in the security room, so why was he receiving this message from the system now?[The second wave has started.]Normally, this wouldn't have bothered him. He had seen it before in his previous lives. It was standard procedure for the system to give prior notice when a new wave started. His problem was the timing of the message. In his previous lives, the system had warned them about the second wave not long after the first wave. It was about, maybe, half an hour. It had been a few days.Jacqueline hurried into the security room and said, "I just received the message from the system. No what?"He took a deep breath before saying, "Don't panic. It's good that the second wave has fina
With neither side willing to budge on the matter, it was a standstill. Technically, there were more people in favor of going out to kill the zombies. However, only two people's opinions mattered, which were Jacqueline and Billy, since they were the only able bodied people in the group. The elderly couple had to rely on them to do most of the work."Billy, we won't have to go far. We can just attack any zombies that pass by," Jacqueline said, trying again to convince him to see her side.Billy sighed. "Jacqueline, no matter how many times you say it, I'm not going to change my mind about it. We shouldn't recklessly fight the zombies, hoping you three will get a power. You should be realistic."Jacqueline wilted. "I know, but I don't want us to be a burden on you. I already know that we aren't much help to you without a power or system backing us up.""The elderly couple has already provided us a place to stay, and you have already done more than enough," he said. She gave him a doubtfu
"Hey, you, get me a coffee," the manager ordered as he pointed at Billy."Right away, sir," Billy said without batting an eye.Suddenly, another coworker said, "Get me a coffee too.""Me too," another said."Okay, does anyone else want a coffee?" he asked.Everyone within hearing distance immediately gave their orders, which he happily accepted. Before he could leave to grab the coffee for everyone, someone stood in his way. Standing before him was Jacqueline, who crossed her arms with a stern expression on her face."What's going on here?" she demanded.Immediately, everyone went silent. No one dared to speak to her. Even though she had only joined the company a few months ago, everyone knew she was on the fast track to being promoted. She had the looks and brains to rise to the top. If they made a mistake, it would be the end for them. Her green eyes scanned the area as everyone ducked their heads except for the manager. "Well? Why are you all silent?""Now, now," the manager said a
Seeing no reason to lie, Billy said, "Yeah. Where did you hear it from?"Jacqueline shrugged as she said, "I heard some of the other people in our department talking about how you were denied a day off for your anniversary even though you put in your request several weeks in advance."Billy winced. So much for it being confidential. That kind of information shouldn't be allowed to spread. It was a breach of privacy. It didn't take a genius to know who spread it since there had only been a few people involved in the process. The manager immediately came to mind, but he had no proof, so he couldn't accuse him of sharing private information."Anyway, do you still want to leave early to get some things for your wife?" she suddenly asked. He blinked. "Of course. I want to get her a couple things to celebrate our six year anniversary.""I still can't believe you've been married for so long," she mumbled. "You're only twenty two."Ignoring her mutterings, he asked, "Why do you ask? You would
Billy whistled a tune as he held his precious cargo to his chest. His wife was going to love what he got her. She had mentioned before that she wanted some new earrings when he asked why she wasn't wearing the ones he got for her a couple months ago. Since he got her red earrings last time to go with her dress, he got blue ones to match her eyes.He paused and shifted his weight so he wouldn't drop the cake, flowers, and champagne while he locked the car. Once he was successful, he turned around and frowned at the other car parked nearby. Billy had never seen the car before. It certainly wasn't one of the cars his wife and her family drove. They must have guests visiting. It would explain why no one had come out to greet him. No one had mentioned guests, but they probably didn't have the chance to tell him. With a shrug, he walked past the car towards the door. The thought of the surprised and pleased look on her face when she saw him return home early with gifts brought a smile to hi
