Niccolo leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, watching Jenna as she stirred the untouched coffee in front of her. He had thought about this moment in his mind a dozen times, and now that it was happening, he felt nothing —no guilt, no hesitation, just a strange impatience gnawing at him.

“Jenna,” he said flatly, his tone clipped. “I don’t need you anymore, so let's not see each other again.”

The words landed like shards of glass.

Jenna blinked twice, her lips parting in disbelief. She leaned forward slightly, her eyes searching his face, desperate to find some trace of humor or regret. “Wait… what? Are you serious?”

Niccolo let out a long sigh, rolling his eyes as though her question were absurd. He pushed his chair back, the scrape of wood against tile sharp in the quiet cafe. “Of course I’m serious.”

He rose to leave, but Jenna’s trembling hand shot out and clutched at his sleeve. Her grip was desperate, her voice breaking. “Please, Niccolo… if I did something wrong, just tell me.

  • 044. Niccolo —A Trillionaire

Niccolo sat silently in the mayor’s study, the heavy air thick with the scent of old leather bound books and faint cigar smoke. Rain tapped steadily against the tall windows, the kind of rain that blurred out the city lights and cloaked the world in gray. It was the kind of weather that suited secrets, the weather that made the truth easier to whisper, and harder to deny. The mayor, dressed in a perfectly tailored navy suit despite being in his own home, studied Niccolo with a mixture of caution and curiosity. He had heard Ariana say Niccolo wished to speak with him urgently, and though he had expected perhaps a request for favor, or even a plea about the broken engagement, what Niccolo said next left him unsteady.“It has to do with my past,” Niccolo said, his tone firm but oddly calm. His eyes, steady as polished stone, betrayed no nervousness. The mayor frowned, leaning back in his chair. “Your past?” He arched a brow. “Go on.”Niccolo drew a breath and began. “I don't know how thi

  • 043. Family Relations

The silence of the past two days weighed heavily on Niccolo. His phone lay on the nightstand, screen dim but filled with unanswered calls and unread messages from Ariana. Each notification that flashed only tightened the knot in his chest. He hadn’t deleted them but he open them either. He refused to read a single one. When he closed his eyes at night, he sometimes saw her face, pale with shock when he told her it was over. Other times, he heard her voice in his head, dripping with condescension as she told Selene she could buy her freedom with money. That was the memory that stayed longest. That was the memory that burned.Selene had tried more than once to speak to him about it. She wasn’t foolish, she knew the storm he carried inside. But Niccolo had cut her off every time. Just the right before, after dinner, she sat next to him in bed staring at him. “What is it?” He asked. “Nothing. It's just, I didn't think you could get this mad at someone. You're always so kind and gentle.”

  • 042. It's Over

Ariana had been pacing around in her room for nearly half an hour, glancing at her phone every few minutes with the hope that Niccolo would call or at least text her. Since the rain had soiled their plans of going out two days ago, he hadn't reached out to her, and even though it was clearly not her fault that it rained, Ariana had been feeling guilty about it. She finally decided that she would reach out to him first. When his voice came through, calm and steady, she suddenly became nervous, “Hi! Uh I was just calling to uh.. see how you were doing.” Sne said. “Okay.” He said simply. Them added, “Are you busy right now?”“Right now? Nope. What's up?”There was the faintest pause on his end, like he was thinking about the next words to say, and finally, it came. “If you're free, come over.”Her pulse quickened. She didn’t even bother hiding her eagerness. “Okay. I’ll be there soon.”The drive felt longer than usual, the weather was threatening rain again and dark clouds were coverin

Kimberly sat in the dim light of her apartment, staring at the half-empty glass of water in her hand. Her reflection in the surface of the liquid looked blurred, distorted, fragile. The more she stared at it, the more the thought pressed down on her: Niccolo cannot be happy without me.No matter how much he pretended, no matter who he surrounded himself with, his joy belonged to her. To accept otherwise was to accept defeat, and Kimberly had never been a woman who accepted defeat. She clenched the glass tighter, anger buzzing through her veins. For over three years she had been with him, through his poverty, through the endless nights when he had nothing to give her. He couldn’t buy her expensive clothes, he couldn’t drive her around in flashy cars, he couldn’t even promise her security. But she had stayed.Yes, she had been unfaithful. Yes, Gregory had tempted her with the kind of life Niccolo couldn’t dream of offering back then. But at least she had stayed. She had endured Lyla’s t

  • 040. New Task

The next morning brought dark clouds and heavy rain with it. The wind howled against the window panes, rattling them as if trying to break through. Niccolo cursed under his breath as he sat up in bed. He had been looking forward to the day, carefully planning his next steps, and he had even asked Ariana to come over. But the undying downpour had ruined his plans before they could even begin.Beside him, Selene was curled up like a child, snoring softly into the blanket. Her dark hair spilled across the pillow, framing her face in loose waves. She looked so peaceful, so untouched by the chaos that followed him everywhere. Niccolo watched her for a long moment, his chest tightening with a tenderness he hadn’t expected. She looked even cuter when she slept. He had to resist the urge to reach out, to brush a lock of hair away, to pull her into his arms.He knew she wouldn’t mind. Selene had already given herself to him in trust, in loyalty, in ways no one else ever had. But Niccolo was m
