Chapter Six: Best friends.

Years ago, his son, James Magnus took along with his family including Jackson, his grandson and escaped from the duties of being an heir to a great empire. He vanished overnight with no trace. The next few years later, he found their body yet no trace of Jackson’s own.

They were ambushed that same night they ran off and none survived. He was lucky to discover his grandson living with an old woman in the countryside. He funded her with money and sent Jackson to the city where he could be under his care.

“My father?” He muttered and a beeping sound came from his old, second hand blueberry. The statement written boldly on his phone caused him to be thrown into a dilemma. His legs wobbled and he gazed into the old man’s eyes. “Is three hundred million nothing to you people?” He was on the verge of crying and also, confused by his own identity as Jackson, the young lord heir to the throne.

First thing first, he settled in his mind and made up his mind to save Mrs Harrison first and then the remaining money he would spend the night in a hotel and next day, run off to another country. He was unsure of his plan but had to go with it because why…?

They were not to be easily trusted! There must be more reason to their recruiting him as the heir.

Julian thanked the old man and hurried off to the hospital. When gone, the leader bowed his head and made mention of what he had in mind.

“Are you not troubled that he might run away?” He asked, dumbfounded why the old man allowed him to run off like that after the whole years they had taken to get his whereabouts and catch him where they wanted. Sometimes he did the most unimaginable things no one could figure out.

“Where does he want to run to, Kian? Every part of this country is dominated by my men. No matter where he goes to seek refuge, I will find him sooner or later.” Eden walked back to the chair and sat down. He crossed his legs and put on the big screen in the television.

Julian’s face popped up on his screen, showing he was already in the hospital, paying up the bills. He increased the volume of the television and chuckled. Every single thing of his life from birth up until adulthood was displayed on the big, flat screen.

“This damn boy thinks he can run away? He is planning on sleeping in a hotel and running away.” Eden repeated Julian’s exact words he said after paying the bills. “Kian, this is when you are needed. Do not let him board a flight to another country.

“Repeat the story again! It is hard to believe someone would lend you that huge sum of money. He must want something in return. You must be careful about signing such deals with that man. The rich loves to oppress the poor.” Smith, his male best friend who had been with him through thick and thin said. He was also the attending surgeon for Miss Harrison.

They were both struggling to make ends meet and fortunate for Smith, he broke out of his own misfortune and became rich, making more than a thousand dollar every week. He grew into the best surgeon in Milano city too while for Julian, life only turned out to be worse.

“Let me first save Mrs Harrison then the money remaining I can use it to fly out of the country. I only need some favor from you. While I am away, help me take care of Mrs Harrison. Any decline in health you can report it to me. I will hustle harder to pay her bills.” He said and transferred the money to Smith’s account.

Truth be told, Mrs Harrison’s debts were settled by Smith. The hospital bills were paid off over night by him too. Julian felt guilty for the burden he put on Smith’s shoulders and decided to pay him back, although Smith kept repeating to him that it was merely an act of good will. They were friends, brothers and family.

“You know I will always be there for you bro…Do not overwork yourself.” He said lastly and led him out of the intensive care unit room where Miss Harrison was laid with tubes connected all over her body. They walked halfway through the hallway and stopped, both leaning on the wall and chatting away their time.

“I can never repay you in this life, Smith. You were always there for me anytime I need you. You bore my financial pains and shared it equally with me. What good did I do in my past life to meet you?” Julian gave him a brief hug and let go off him. He was very emotional as soon as it came to Smith and Miss Harrison.

Those two people are people he would under no circumstances stop thinking about in his lifetime and even the next. They were the best thing which came into his life. Not even Kyra could sacrifice so much like Smith did.

“Julian, you don’t have to be like this. You are a man for crying out loud. Men don’t be emotional, we bottle things up and face the harsh truth of life unless you are a transgender, or are you?” He jokingly teased him. Smith rested his palms on his shoulders and gave it a pat. “Friends right?”

“Friends…The night is no longer young again. I will call you after I successfully carry out my escape plan.”

“Good luck. It reminds me, is tomorrow not you and Kyra’s wedding? Why are hurrying out of the country? Do not tell me you are ditching her because you have seen money which can sustain your lifetime.”

“Kyra and I are in the past, she cheated on me with my boss.”

“Wait, she did what…?”

Julian immediately understood the gesture and took a seat beside him. Eden clears his throat before speaking , “Are you truly willing to accept the Magnus name?” He asked, his voice still coming out hoarse despite his earlier actions. Julian appeared surprised, why was Eden questioning him like he had a choice. He was literally forced to be here. A part of him was tempted to say ‘no’, but he held back against it. “I only agreed partly because it was Auntie Lore’s dying wish and because I am choosing to view this as an opportunity to get the life I aspire” Julian responded to him with a straight face. Eden nodded , he respected his honesty and braveness. “Being a Magnus is not only about getting the life you deserve. Yes, you would get the life you deserve but you should also know that it all comes at a cost,” Eden said, a subt

He gritted his teeth in rage recalling how those two were so engrossed in pleasuring themselves. ‘I will start with Kyra. I will show you that you are not worthy to even tie my shoelace and then Denzel , the punches you gave me, I promise to return them to you in ten folds’He said in his mind and relaxed his back on the soft chair. He hummed his favorite lullaby and took a short nap while the car drove. They arrived at the destination and the door was opened by Kian. Julian climbed down from the car and in a span of a second, the entrance was crowded with maids, guards and butlers, lining up having their head bowed down. They genuflected and said in unison. “Welcome back Young Lord!” As soon as they said, the pathway was cleared and Julian’s l

They rushed into the room and found Julian crying his heart out. He clenched onto her arms begging her to wake up and be alive. Smith dragged Julian away from her and handed him over to the old man. Smith confirmed her death and bowed his head in silence. He raised the blanket and covered her entire body, stepped away from the bed after detaching the monitor and tubes from her body and allowed for her dead body to be rolled out of the room. “12 am in the morning, Miss Lore Harrison passed away from heart stroke. Chapter Eight: Passed away. “What?!” Julian said, his brows furrowed in incomprehension. A few while ago, he had blamed the old man and even dared to beat him till he bled from the right side of his mouth. Now that Smith testified to it and bowed his head as a sign of gratitude to the old man, guilt pricked him. He stared at the smirking old man and followed the doctors to the private, VIP room. “I suppose he also paid for this too?” Julian hovered around Smith’s shoulders and asked. He was regretting everything he had done to this old man. He only wanted his grandson back to him and nothing more. He didn’t plan on harming him either. Could it be they were also the good guys too? Julian in guilt walked inside the room. He brought out a chair for Eden as a sign of gratitude. Five minutes passed and the doctors concluded the medical checkup on Miss Harrison and left, allowing the two of them to be alone. Julian glanced at Eden and he did the same back to Julian. They made eye contac

Did you not say she loved you and would spend her lifetime with you” “I thought so but it seems I was wrong about her. She is like every woman out in the world. She is not special in anyway. I was damn fucking stupid to trust she was different.” Julian balled his fist while he recalled today’s incident. He had been crushed by someone whom he cherished so much. Heartbreak was the very bittersweet truth everyone hated. “Women can never be trusted especially those from the higher rank. They care about themselves and money. Well, you live you learn which my motivation has been since. Mistakes are made to be learnt from. Don’t be down because of a woman. You have other blessed opportunity ahead of you and I know you are a fulfilled individual. No one should belittle you anymore.” “I will remember your words, my good friend and become stronger
