Marcus had barely said a word to Seraphine throughout their journey. She hadn't been particularly talkative either, which was unusual. Normally, she'd have spent half the trip flirting with him, teasing him, or finding some ridiculous excuse to start a conversation.

Perhaps she was still feeling weak from her injuries. Whatever the reason, Marcus appreciated the silence. He had enough problems to think about.

Ten demon women. A whole fucking TEN!

The more he thought about what Clara had told

Marcus said nothing. And somehow, his silence frightened Dren more than shouting would have. Dren swallowed. “I mean, I didn't tell them to hurt anyone…” “What the fuck are you saying?” Garrick demanded, getting to his feet. “Does that even make sense to you?” Dren glared at him. Garrick immediately turned toward Lucien. “Think about it, my friend. I'm the only innocent person here. I even returned your house to you!” Marcus slowly closed his eyes. Oh, not this shit again. “Will you shut up and let him think?” Selene snapped. Dren suddenly lost his temper. “Oh, fuck all of you!” Everyone turned toward him. “You're all acting righteous because my plan got exposed! Lucien was the one who hid the heart from us in the first place!” He pointed toward the box. “What was I supposed to do? Sit around and pretend I didn't care? We all wanted that heart, and I'm sure every single person in this room had a plan to get their share!” Garrick opened his mouth. “Don't even start!”

“Oh, it's Dren!” Vyrella's furious expression suddenly transformed into a pleasant smile as her eyes landed on the man sitting across the room. Dren went rigid. “Hi… hi…” He tried to sound normal, but the words came out so awkwardly that even Garrick turned to look at him. Marcus, meanwhile, almost collapsed with relief. Oh, thank God. For a moment, he'd genuinely thought Vyrella had come to tear his head off. Considering how she'd stormed into the room, he wouldn't have been surprised if she still wanted to kill him over their earlier argument. But apparently, she had business with Dren. Wonderful. Somebody else's problem for once. “Have you recovered from our last encounter?” Vyrella asked sweetly, approaching Dren as though they were old friends. Dren swallowed. “Of course! I mean, yes. I'm fine.” He forced a chuckle. “What about you? You must have been very stressed.” He was trying desperately to communicate something with his eyes. Please. Don't say anything. Unfor

The next moment, Selene attacked. A violent burst of magic shot across the room, striking Dren before he could finish speaking. “YOU FUCKING BASTARD!” Dren stumbled backward, blood spilling from his mouth. Then he retaliated. Magical energy erupted around him, and the two began attacking each other with everything they had. Furniture shattered. Blood splattered across the floor. A table overturned, sending expensive decorations crashing to the ground. Marcus stared in disbelief. WHAT THE FUCK?! They'd gone from discussing percentages to trying to murder each other! “Someone stop them!” he shouted. But Seraphine was having the time of her life. She leaned forward, watching the fight with bright eyes. “COME ON, DREN!” she shouted. “You can do better than that!” Marcus slowly turned toward her. Excuse me? “Break her mouth!” Seraphine continued excitedly. “Her eyes! Go for her eyes!” Marcus stared. Oh, this woman is fucking insane. Selene screamed something unpleasant

Garrick shrugged and continued. “I mean, what's the point of having all that mana if you die trying to get it?” Marcus nodded slowly. For once, somebody said something sensible. “But then Lucien reminded us that he could die and return to life,” Garrick continued. “So we agreed that he and Dren would retrieve it.” Marcus kept listening. “Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, Lucien decided to move the heart without telling anyone. Not even Dren knew where he'd taken it.” Garrick shook his head. “I was worried you'd decided to keep everything for yourself. But thankfully, you brought it back.” Marcus stared at him. Thankfully? He'd almost died recovering the heart, fought investigators, watched Seraphine nearly bleed to death, and then escaped a Level 92 healer. And these bastards were sitting here talking about how worried they'd been that he might steal from them? Oh, fuck this. But he couldn't afford to lose his temper. Not yet. He still needed information. “How di

Before Marcus could respond, Seraphine laughed. “Oh, Garrick, you're absolutely right. It was such an inexpensive drink.” Garrick's smile faltered. Seraphine continued in the sweetest voice imaginable. “Although I'm sure your grandfather would be furious if he heard you say that. Didn't he make that drink when he was still a boy? The one your family was supposed to pass down from generation to generation?” She tilted her head innocently. “And Lucien drank it without asking, didn't he? But of course, you're right. It was inexpensive.” Garrick's expression darkened. “Shut your fucking mouth.” Selene turned toward Seraphine. “And what are you even doing here?” Seraphine blinked. “Me?” “Yes, you!” “Oh, I was simply agreeing with Garrick.” She smiled. “Why are you snapping at me?” Her voice was so sweet that Marcus almost laughed. This woman is doing it on purpose. Selene clenched her fists. “I don't blame you. It's because Lucien allows you to follow him around that you think

Marcus and Seraphine finally arrived at Selene's house. Considering the impression Selene, Garrick, and Dren had left on him, Marcus hadn't expected much. He'd imagined a dirty house with clothes scattered everywhere, cigarette butts on the floor, and perhaps a few suspicious substances lying around. After all, back on Earth, people who behaved like these three usually weren't the most responsible individuals. But the moment he stepped through the gates, he realized how wrong he'd been. Selene's house was enormous. The building stood behind a beautifully maintained garden, with several smaller buildings surrounding it. Workers moved around the compound, attending to different tasks, and one of them immediately approached to welcome Marcus and Seraphine. Holy shit. Marcus looked around in amazement. If Selene lived in a place like this, what kind of house did Lucien own? Oh, please let it be something nice. He was beginning to think there might actually be some advantages to
