The Bliss Haven Hall was full of laughter and giggling, both by the guests, friends and relatives of the Harris Family.

Today wasn't just an ordinary day-it was a grand birthday celebration party thrown in honor of Miss Rose Harris, who was celebrating her 60th birthday.

Miss Rose wasn't just a celebrant, but also the matriarch and backbone of the Harris family ever since her husband, Mr. Wilson Harris, passed away at age 60 from a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Since then, Miss Rose had taken over the family's vast estate, family business and their reputation, with an iron will.

Miss Rose was dressed in a deep blue designer gown, sitting gracefully on a throne-like chair at the center of the hall, beaming with smiles, joy, laughter and happiness with her daughters and son sitting around her, singing praises and offering toast.

But amid the grand birthday celebration, seated at the corner of the hall like a rejected son no one wanted to acknowledge or converse with, sat Sean, the man known throughout the entire family as the worthless son-in-law

He wore a plain white shirt with black trousers, which looked more like something a waiter would wear than a guest. He stood out—not because he tried to—but because he didn’t belong. At least, not in their eyes.

Sean Castle married Miss Rose's eldest daughter, Emily Harris, three years ago because of the love and affection they had for each other, despite the disapproval from the Harris family because Sean was not from a prestigious or a wealthy family.

And this makes Harris' family only see and regard Sean as a poor orphan with nothing to write home about, an orphan who won't amount to anything in life, and an orphan who is just a loser.

And because of this Sean was looked down on, humiliated, mocked and trampled on with no atom of sympathy that he was also a human being just like them.

The Harris family sees themselves among the league of wealthy people, who have fame, power and authority. And anything or anyone that is outside of this league is nothing to them but a loser.

The grand birthday celebration party was now coming to an end, and it was time for a gift presentation from the children, guests, family, friends and relatives.

As the guests gave a toast, Henry Harris, the firstborn and the heir to the Harris family, stood up with a beaming smile on his face and took the mic.

“Mother, he began with a smile all over his face. You've been a rock for us all. After the departure of our loving father, you raised us to be strong, ambitious, purpose-driven, and to be proud of our name.”

“We thank you for everything. You truly deserve the world.”

Applause followed.

And with that, he presented her with a key to a brand-new Mercedes SUV with a smile beaming brightly on his face like the morning sun.

And followed by Emily, who is the eldest daughter of the Harris family, presents to her mother a shimmering diamond necklace-which Sean had no idea she had bought.

And after the gift presentation by the eldest son and daughter of the Harris family, it was the turn for the guests, family, friends and relatives to present their gifts, and to the surprise of Miss Rose Harris, a lot of gifts were presented to her, which made her feel highly honoured and respected.

Amid all the gift presentation Sean didn't stand up or move an inch, not because he didn't want to or he didn't desire it, but because he didn't have the money to buy a gift for his mother-in-law, and this made him lose in thought.

Sean was brought back immediately from his thoughts when a voice echoed his name from the center of the hall, calling him back to reality, and the voice happened to be Henry Harris's.

“Hey, Sean, what did you get for Miss Rose on her birthday?”

This question sank deep into Sean's heart, making him feel hard to say a word. Sean breathed in and breathed out, and then summoned his courage to answer, but before he could even say a word

He was disrupted by the sounds of loud laughter from the guests, which made Sean's heart boil in anger at the sound of their laughter.

After the laughter subsided, Henry said to Sean

“You are nothing but just a loser, you are here because of Emily, who chose to love a loser and a bastard like you.”

And Henry didn't just stop there, he kept on insulting and humiliating Sean in front of all the guests, calling him name after name, but Sean didn't say a word or react because it was not the first time nor the second time he was being humiliated and mocked by Henry in the presence of a guest.

But what made Sean feel bad and heartbroken was that his wife Emily was there, witnessing all the insults and humiliation being poured on him by his brother without even trying to defend him.

Even some of the guests were beginning to murmur among themselves while some were busy fixing their gaze towards Sean and shaking their heads in disappointment and disbelief at why Emily decided and chose to marry a loser like Sean.

And when Miss Rose saw that the hall was too noisy, she decided to call in order, by taking the mic to give a vote of Thanks to all those who honored her invitation.
