Chapter 42

Quara Bridger woke up to the sound of sirens blaring in the distance. She rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed, still groggy from sleep. She glanced at the clock on her bedside table and frowned. It was too early for the sirens to be sounding.

She got out of bed and walked over to the window, pulling back the curtains. What she saw outside made her heart race with fear. Chaos had descended on the earth. Buildings were crumbling, cars were overturned, and fires raged out of control. In the distance, she could see strange creatures, monsters, unlike anything she had ever seen before.

Quara's mind raced with questions. What was happening? Was this some kind of terrorist attack? And then, as if in response to her thoughts, a news broadcast came on her television. The newscaster looked terrified as she spoke.
