Xiao Chen did not stand idly by. The twenty-year-old youth didn’t attempt to block or parry—he rushed forward to meet his opponent’s attack head-on. The presence of Zhang Wei had certainly boosted his confidence.

The clash of their two powerful energies created a strong explosion.

Yung Yin was thrown far backward, while Xiao Chen was only forced two steps back. His firmly planted feet kept him from being pushed any further.

Yung Yin’s body slammed hard against the ground, her momentum only stopping after she crashed into a large boulder. At the peak of the hill, besides the trees, many large and small rocks were scattered around.

Though not severely injured, Yung Yin was bewildered by what had just happened. She stood up and glared at Xiao Chen, who was now quite a distance away. The disbelief was clearly carved into her wrinkled face.

“So, that old man’s words were true. The boy really is immune to poison,” she muttered inwardly. She saw the young man staring at her sharply, his thin smile making her feel utterly insulted.

In reality, things were not as Yung Yin assumed. Xiao Chen could still feel the effects of her poison lingering in his body. His breathing was slightly labored, though he managed to hold it back so it wouldn’t disrupt the battle.

He remembered his master’s words, saying that he was now immune to the snake-staff woman’s poison. But the fact remained—the toxin was still crawling through his veins.

“What did Grandfather really mean by that?” he wondered silently. Realizing there was a hidden message in Zhang Wei’s words, Xiao Chen began analyzing it.

In a relatively short time, Xiao Chen understood—his master had meant to give him courage, so he wouldn’t fear or develop trauma when facing warriors who wielded poison. That’s why he forced himself to appear calm, even though the venom was already spreading within him.

“I can’t rely on Grandfather. He won’t always be here with me,” Xiao Chen thought. He resolved to kill the old woman quickly before the poison spread further. For now, he could still suppress it, but if he delayed, the situation would soon turn against him.

He then recalled the moment his master touched his shoulder to draw out the poison. At that time, he had felt a warm energy entering his body. He guessed Zhang Wei had used his internal energy to push the toxin out.

Though trying to stay composed, Yung Yin noticed a subtle change in Xiao Chen’s expression. His once-calm face now carried a hint of tension. She realized her poison had indeed taken root inside him, though not in large amounts. A small smile crept onto her lips.

“You think I don’t know my poison is already inside you? Hahaha! Keep moving—sooner or later, your veins will burst, and you’ll die a miserable death!” Yung Yin cackled, then coughed, spitting fresh blood from her lips.

Xiao Chen swallowed hard, admitting to himself he felt uneasy. His body had been poisoned repeatedly, and his lack of experience only heightened his fear.

“It seems you too have suffered serious internal injuries, Yung Yin… look at your staff—it’ll soon be nothing but scrap metal!” Xiao Chen retorted, his eyes shifting to her snake-headed staff.

The old woman frowned and quickly glanced at her weapon. “Damn it!” she cursed inwardly.

She saw countless cracks spreading across the iron staff, especially at the point where it had clashed against Xiao Chen’s sword.

Both warriors had suffered internal damage, but by rough calculation, the poison afflicting Xiao Chen was far more worrisome.

The youth then made up his mind to gamble with time. He knew the longer he waited, the harder it would be to control the poison. He could ask Zhang Wei for help, but this time—and from now on—he refused to rely on the old man.

“If I am fated to die today, then it means I was never worthy to be your son,” he thought to himself, recalling his parents.

Like his father, who had possessed a strong will and no fear of death, Xiao Chen shared the same traits. The saying “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” seemed to fit perfectly for Xiao Chen and Xiao Yu, their characters strikingly similar.

Unlike some children who grew up with very different traits from their parents—perhaps because the tree had grown by a river and its fruit carried away by the current—Xiao Chen was his father’s son in spirit.

He tried imitating Zhang Wei’s method of expelling poison. Using his internal energy, he forced the toxin to remain suppressed, while controlling his heartbeat so it wouldn’t pump blood too quickly through his body.

“Life or death—it doesn’t matter anymore. Prepare yourself, snake woman!” Xiao Chen stomped the ground hard before shooting forward at incredible speed.

What he did left Yung Yin wide-eyed in disbelief. Was he reckless, or simply foolish? All she saw was someone gambling with death itself. She had already tried to offer him a way out so they both might survive, but he rejected it.

About seven steps away from his target, Xiao Chen leapt high, spinning twice in the air before slashing down his sword.

The snake-staff woman felt the immense energy aimed at her head. The very sword she had long coveted was now poised to claim her life. All she could do was lift her staff, pouring the last of her internal strength into blocking the strike.

A thunderous explosion erupted as their opposing forces clashed. Thick dust billowed. Grass and small trees were ripped from their roots, hurled far away. Pebbles and stones scattered violently.

From a distance, Li Lan and Martha looked on, their hearts filled with worry for Xiao Chen. Both bit their lower lips, suppressing their growing anxiety.

Strangely, the old man beside them showed no sign of concern. Instead, Zhang Wei’s smile widened even after the powerful explosion.

“I haven’t even taught him how to channel his internal energy. Who would have thought his intellect is so high that he could learn from the battles he’s experienced?” Zhang Wei said proudly.

Xiao Chen coughed lightly, spitting out thick, black blood. He remained standing just long enough to gaze at Yung Yin’s shattered, unrecognizable body—before finally swaying and collapsing unconscious.

When Xiao Chen mentioned Liu Zun’s name, some of the villagers disagreed. One of them even voiced his objection directly to him."Why should Liu Zun be the leader of this village?" asked a man who appeared to be around sixty years old.Xiao Chen looked at the man and smiled faintly. "Let me ask you this, Uncle—did I ever say the people of this village must choose Liu Zun as the village chief?"The man fell silent and simply shook his head."I only gave a suggestion, didn’t I?" Xiao Chen pressed. This time, there was no nod, no reply—only silence."I know very well the nature of the people in this village. Some look kind but hide corruption within their hearts. Others are genuinely good and sincere in their deeds. All of this is etched clearly in my memory," Xiao Chen added, deliberately hinting at the man before him.He then waved for Sekar to come closer."From now on, I will no longer interfere with this village’s affairs. Choose for yourselves a leader whom you think is worthy to l

  • Suggestion

"We have nothing to do with the two of you, so we will still leave this place!" said one of the six members of the Devil’s Sickle group."You may not have anything to do with me directly, but your four leaders brutally murdered my father. So in this matter, you will still be held accountable!" Xiao Chen replied with a firm and pressing tone. The six men dressed in red certainly did not share Xiao Chen’s perspective. They believed their only task was to protect Lu Feng from the villagers, not from outsiders. But today, reality forced them to face the bitter truth. Fighting against the young pair of warriors was not a choice they could take if they wanted to save their lives."Sekar, finish them!" Xiao Chen shouted without even glancing at the beautiful girl.Hearing Xiao Chen’s command, the six members of the Devil’s Sickle were startled. But they still thought it would be easier to deal with the girl than the young man. They planned to use this opportunity to their advantage. One by o

  • Massacre

Xiao Chen could see the fear in the man’s eyes, even though his mouth barked loudly in defiance. A faint smile curved on his lips.“I already told you—anyone who dares protect that savage, Lu Feng, will also die by my hands. This is my final offer: leave now, or die.” His body trembled slightly as he spoke. Unlike the many battles he had fought before, this one felt different—his fury was rooted in vengeance for his parents’ deaths.Suddenly, Lu Feng reappeared from inside his house. “Do not be afraid! He is only bluffing! If you kill him, I will give thirty gold coins to each of you who survives!”The guards, who a moment ago had considered fleeing, instantly changed their minds. Thirty gold coins were equal to ten weeks of wages—an irresistible sum.“You will be the last to die, you vile man!” Xiao Chen shouted, pointing at Lu Feng with burning eyes full of hatred. “Because of you, my parents are dead. Because of your treachery, I was cast out of this village. But in truth, I am gra

  • Revenge

Although some villagers were glad to hear it, others still felt pessimistic about Xiao Chen’s promise. They did not believe the young man could defeat the dozens of warriors hired by Lu Feng to guard him. Defeating Lu Han and his three companions was one thing, but overcoming Lu Feng’s guards was another matter entirely.“You’d better forget your intention, Xiao Chen. It’s not that we don’t appreciate your willingness to help this village, but let us bear the suffering caused by Lu Feng alone. You should leave and never return here,” said a middle-aged woman.“Aunt Ren Ying, in the past you were always kind and often helped my struggling family. I believe it is now my turn to repay the kindness you once showed. Trust me, the two of us will be fine.”Xiao Chen stepped closer to the slightly plump woman. He still remembered well how Ren Ying had often helped his family, giving them food or lending money without interest. After shaking hands with her, Xiao Chen invited Sekar to follow hi

  • Help for the Villagers

To avoid being noticed by Lu Han and his three friends, Xiao Chen walked with his head lowered, never once lifting his face. He still didn’t want to deal with Lu Han, because his true purpose in returning to Qincheng village was Lu Feng.Xiao Chen was not the center of attention for Lu Han’s three companions. Instead, it was Sekar, whose beauty was a perfect blend of sweetness and charm. Those three young men, known for their fondness for women, could not resist their desire when they saw a beautiful stranger entering their village. Meanwhile, Lu Han was still busy joking and wrapping his arms around the girl beside him.“Who is that girl? Why have we never seen her before?” asked one of Lu Han’s friends curiously, his eyes still fixed on Sekar.“Wait, isn’t that Xiao Chen, the loser who was once driven out of this village?” guessed another one of Lu Han’s friends.Hearing his companions’ words, Lu Han immediately turned his gaze toward Xiao Chen and Sekar, who were walking in the opp

  • Return to Qincheng Village

Seeing Martha’s unblinking gaze fixed on Xiao Chen and Li Lan as they departed, Zhang Wei realized something had been hidden in his disciple’s heart. More so when he noticed a glistening tear roll down the corner of her beautiful eye.“You like Xiao Chen, don’t you?”Martha quickly wiped away her tear before turning to Zhang Wei. She shook her head in denial.“You can’t lie to me, Martha. Your eyes are different today.”Martha nodded at last. “Both Li Lan and I like Xiao Chen, Master. But he doesn’t react at all when either of us tries to get closer to him.”Zhang Wei smiled faintly, reminded of his late wife, who had passed away even before he retired from the martial world.“If you are truly destined for him, you will meet again. But honestly, I pray that the three of you may one day be united in marriage. Xiao Chen is a responsible young man. It wouldn’t be a problem if you both became his wives.”“It feels difficult to share one’s heart, Master. But if that is truly fate, I will l
