The man, more than a hundred years old, hurried out of the cave. His eyes widened as he looked up and saw the moon glowing a deep crimson.

“What kind of phenomenon is this? Why has the moonlight turned red like blood?” he murmured to himself.

Moments later, the crimson light from the moon narrowed into a concentrated beam and shot downward at the speed of light.

Zhang Wei was stunned. He suddenly remembered—the point where the red moonlight was falling was exactly where Xiao Chen was meditating to awaken the power within his body.

Not wanting anything to happen to the only disciple he had ever trained, Zhang Wei called Benggala to accompany him to the waterfall where Xiao Chen was meditating.

The two of them darted into the darkness of night. Despite being twice the size of an ordinary wolf, Benggala’s running speed surpassed even the finest horse.

In addition, Benggala’s ability to see in the dark was another great advantage—a natural gift for a nocturnal hunter.

About an hour later, they reached the vicinity of the waterfall. The place should have been pitch-black, but instead, a wide area was illuminated in red—the glow spreading from the concentrated beam of moonlight.

Zhang Wei could not hide his astonishment. Even from thirty meters away, he could clearly see the crimson moonlight centered directly on Xiao Chen, whose body was being pounded by the waterfall.

Curious about Xiao Chen’s condition, Zhang Wei stepped closer. But when he reached the last ten meters to the pool’s edge, his body suddenly felt heavy, as though weighed down, making it difficult to move forward.

“What’s going on?” the old man muttered under his breath. Never in his life had he experienced something like this. Even when facing murderous auras from formidable enemies in the past, he could always overcome them without much trouble.

He stared at Xiao Chen’s figure, though the young man’s body could no longer be seen clearly—completely engulfed in the blinding crimson light. Even the water in the pool had turned red.

Not wanting to risk himself, Zhang Wei chose to sit cross-legged and wait to see what would happen next. He was certain this phenomenon had not yet reached its climax.

About an hour later, exactly at midnight, a burst of energy exploded from Xiao Chen’s body. It made no sound, yet the pressure was overwhelming. Zhang Wei had to channel his own inner energy to avoid being thrown back.

The dominance of the crimson glow vanished instantly, along with the moon itself disappearing from the sky. The energy burst defied the laws of gravity—water that should have been falling down the waterfall now reversed direction, streaming upward until the pool beneath was completely drained.

Zhang Wei was dumbfounded. In all his life, he had never witnessed anything so strange.

“Could it really be like that?” he murmured, mind racing to connect the reversed blood flow in Xiao Chen’s body with the upward rush of water. Both were phenomena unheard of in the natural world.

When the energy pressure finally dissipated, Zhang Wei heard a rumbling above the cliff. He knew the water would soon crash down again—this time dragging rocks and debris with it.

The old man darted forward, scooping up the unconscious Xiao Chen before he could be buried beneath the falling rubble. The young man’s senses were completely shut down; he was unaware of anything happening to him.

In less than a second, Zhang Wei had carried Xiao Chen far from the waterfall. Sure enough, moments later, a torrent of water mixed with large and small rocks came crashing down, filling the now-empty pool.

Not wasting any time, Zhang Wei brought Xiao Chen’s body back to the cave.

---

The next morning, Xiao Chen still showed no sign of waking from his trance. He remained lost in deep meditation, unaware that he was now lying inside the cave.

Zhang Wei gazed at Xiao Chen’s body resting on a broad, flat rock he often used for sleeping. The man who had once shaken the martial world was now completely puzzled by what had happened to his disciple.

First—if it had taken him three weeks to awaken his own inner power in the past, Xiao Chen had managed it in only one week. Second—the blood-red moon, focusing its light solely on the young man. Third—the defiance of natural gravity. And finally—Xiao Chen’s continued unconsciousness, along with the strange blue glow emanating from the cloth bundle.

These four peculiarities had never occurred when Zhang Wei awakened his own power, and that alone left countless questions in his mind.

Meanwhile, the bizarre event of the previous night had been witnessed by nearly everyone who was still awake until midnight. The moon’s high position allowed any pair of eyes to see the phenomenon clearly—especially martial artists from all factions.

The nearest village, about three kilometers from the waterfall, was abuzz with rumors. Some men on night patrol had clearly heard the rumbling explosion, followed by the blood-red glow of the moon.

From them, the story spread rapidly, causing great commotion in the village. In today’s terms, it would have been called “viral”—spreading swiftly to other nearby settlements.

Two days after the “Blood Moon Phenomenon,” as the locals called it, the village had become a gathering point for martial artists from all walks of life, eager to investigate.

According to martial world legend, strange celestial phenomena were often considered special omens—either signaling the appearance of a powerful sacred weapon or the birth of an extraordinary martial artist destined to shake the world.

Both orthodox and unorthodox sects sent their best people to confirm the matter. If it truly was the appearance of a divine weapon, whoever obtained it would gain immense power.

The second possibility was the birth of a prodigy. Martial artists also came to check if any woman had given birth at the exact time of the event.

But unlike the martial artists, common villagers—unfamiliar with such legends—interpreted it as a sign of an impending plague. Fearing the worst, they began preparing for the disaster they believed would soon come.

At the largest eatery in the village, a group of six men dressed entirely in red with black headbands were in a heated argument with several others dressed in white uniforms. Some had even drawn their swords, ready to fight.

  • The Surprise

Before long, Song Wei and Xiu Lung emerged through the sect’s gate. Both of them laughed loudly, full of triumph, imagining that the man who had ruined Grand Minister Yao Li’s plan would soon die a miserable death. A few seconds later, another old man—with long white eyebrows and white hair tied up in a topknot—followed them out and stood beside Xiu Lung. "These are the two who dared to challenge our sect, Sect Leader," Xiu Lung said, trying to incite the old man beside him. Hearing Xiu Lung’s dishonest words, Xiao Chen’s mind began to work. He suspected that the leader of the Eternal Sword Sect had no idea about Song Wei and Xiu Lung’s role in supporting Grand Minister Yao Li’s coup against Emperor Cheng Ho. "That’s rich coming from you!" Xiao Ji snapped angrily. "Wasn’t it you two who challenged my friend to come to the foot of Mount Kahuripan?" "Don’t lie!" Song Wei shouted, putting on a fake look of conviction. "We are

  • The Eternal Sword Sect

Xiao Chen smiled faintly as he heard the man’s words. "I’ll say this one last time," he said, spinning the twig in his hand a little faster. "Where are those two cowardly old men? My business is only with them—not with the entire Eternal Sword Sect." "Just admit you’re afraid to face all of us!" the yellow-skinned man taunted. "The word ‘fear’ doesn’t exist in my dictionary! Don’t regret it when your lives are lost for the sake of those two cowards!" After responding to the taunt, Xiao Chen quickly attacked one of the four men, thrusting the end of his twig toward the man’s head. But he was forced to pull back and jump several steps backward as two other attacks threatened his ribs and stomach. "Annoying, but weak attacks like these won’t hurt me!" the handsome young man muttered before increasing his speed. He launched another series of faster, continuous attacks at the two closest enemies. The two men targeted

  • The Battle Begins

For quite some time, the two of them sat silently on their horses, scanning the area—but there was not a single sign of the two old warriors anywhere. "Do you think they’re avoiding the main road?" Xiao Chen asked. "It’s possible," Xiao Ji replied. "From what Uncle Sutejo said last night, the Eternal Sword Sect is supposed to be on the right side of the main road—but I don’t see any footpath at all." Xiao Chen leaped off his horse and walked forward, his eyes fixed on the right side of the road, searching for tracks or any evidence that their enemies were nearby. But he found nothing—nothing to satisfy his curiosity. "Did you find anything?" Xiao Ji asked, still sitting on his horse. Xiao Chen shook his head slowly. "Could they have another path?" "You mean a different footpath?" Xiao Ji asked again. "Yeah. Did you see any footpath leading to the right before we got here?" Xiao Ji turned aroun

  • Arrival at the Foot of Mount Kahuripan

Grand Minister Yao Li also broke into a wide grin. The foot of Mount Kahuripan was where the Eternal Sword Sect was based—and if the warrior who had killed his personal guards dared to show up there, it would be like handing over his own life. Song Wei and Xiu Lung would surely deploy nearly two hundred sect members to gang up on him. "In that case, we shall take our leave, My Lord," Xiu Lung said. "We have a surprise prepared for that cursed warrior!" "Go, Masters," Yao Li replied. "Make sure that scum dies tomorrow. Bring me his head, and I will reward each of you with a pouch of gold coins." Song Wei and Xiu Lung bowed respectfully before exiting. Their minds were already filled with visions of the fifty gold coins each that would soon be in their hands. Meanwhile, in the palace, Emperor Cheng Ho and Grand Minister Tian Long were still waiting for word from the soldiers about the explosion they had heard. Both men were growing impatient, ea

  • The Delayed Duel

The old man growled in fury. He had never imagined that the young warrior’s initial attack had been nothing but a trick. Decades spent in the martial arts world—filled with bloodshed and lost lives—had amounted to nothing in the face of this boy. A moment later, Song Wei coughed softly, and fresh blood spurted from his lips. "Heh heh heh," Xiao Chen chuckled, his voice laced with mockery. "I thought the two of you were stronger than the men I killed last night. But it turns out your skills are no more than this." Song Wei felt as if he had been struck by lightning at the young man’s taunt. "You bastard!" he roared. Watching his comrade be humbled in just a few moves was almost unbearable for Xiu Lung. He rushed over to Song Wei, ready to help his friend fight back against Xiao Chen. "Are you alright?" Xiu Lung asked, his eyes scanning Song Wei for injuries. "I’m fine—just a minor wound," Song Wei replied, his gaze fixe

  • The Battle

Xiao Chen’s eyes narrowed as he realized he had been lured into a trap. Yet not a single trace of fear touched his mind—in fact, a wide grin spread across his face, as if he were throwing down a challenge to the dozens of men standing before him. Moments later, around fifty more uniformed soldiers emerged from the darkness of the night, joining the group that was already gathered. All of them stared daggers at the young man who seemed to possess not an ounce of fear. "You have made a terrible mistake," Xiao Chen declared, his voice ringing clear and steady. "Tonight, you have all thrown away your lives for the sake of supporting a traitor!" "Enough talk! Attack him!" one of the men shouted, giving the order. The combined force of roughly eighty soldiers and martial artists charged forward, attacking Xiao Chen with brutal ferocity. All of them shared the same ambition: to claim the huge reward Grand Minister Yao Li had promi
