CHAPTER 8

Lux Arden ignored the impact his words had on Elliott Kane.

By now, he had already stood in front of Elliott Kane and used his strong and powerful hand to grip Elliott's throat.

"Stop!"

A hurried sound of footsteps suddenly came from outside the door.

A group of armed and uniformed officers from the Public Security Bureau burst into Elliott Kane's office.

"How dare you commit violence in broad daylight? Do you have no respect for the law? Let go of Mr. Elliott immediately!" they shouted.

The trembling twin sisters hiding in the corner thought that the officers were their saviors.

They ran to the leader and tearfully recounted the whole story, condemning Elliott Kane's wrongdoing and also exonerating Lux Arden.

But the leader just sneered, "Hmph, you're obviously in cahoots. You couldn't extort Mr. Elliott, so you resorted to violence."

"What are you all waiting for? Handcuff them!" he ordered, turning his back on them.

Lux Arden stared at him with a cold expression. "Is this how you enforce the law as a law enforcement officer?" But the leader was full of disdain.

"Who are you to tell me how to do my job? If you're smart, you'll let Mr. Elliott go, or l'll make sure you end up in prison." Elliott Kane felt the anger in Lux Arden's grip, and before Lux Arden could reply, he spoke up in a hoarse voice, "Philip, are you deaf? Kidnapping, extortion, and assault, I did all of it!"

"I am the one you should arrest. Take me away!" said the man named Elliott Kane.

The leader, Philip, was taken aback by Elliott's Words.

"Elliott, you don't have to be afraid. I know you were coerced into saying that," Philip said.

"Rest assured, with me here today, no one can harm you." The twin sisters were pale when they heard this.

They never expected Philip to protect Elliott Kane so blatantly. He was clearly in cahoots with Elliott Kane.

Lux Arden raised an eyebrow when he heard Philips words and asked, "Oh? Is that so?" He then slapped Elliott Kane hard across the face, causing blood to flow from his mouth.

"I just hurt him, and more than just a hair," Lux Arden said provocatively, looking at Philip.

Philip was so angry that he was about to explode. "Kid, do you know what you're doing? I'll warn you one last time. Let go of Elliott now, or don't blame me for being impolite to you!" Philip warned, his hand on his gun.

"Impolite to me? You can try," Lux Arden said, waving his hand at Philip provocatively.

Philip couldn't bear such provocation and immediately drew his gun, aiming at Lux Arden's head.

It had been many years since anyone had dared to speak to him like this since he joined the Public Security Bureau.

At this moment, Lux Arden felt like he was being looked at as if he were a disgusting bug.

He had worked so hard to get to where he was today, and he couldn't allow anyone to look at him with such disdain!

Philip made up his mind to kill Lux Arden on the spot, but before he could even pull the trigger, a sudden shout stopped him in his tracks.

"Stop!"

Philip turned around, confused, but was shocked to see who had arrived.

It was none other than the legendary physician Wynn and the heiress of the Blackwood family, Dora Blackwood!

"What.. Wynn Physician, Miss Dora, what are you doing here?" But Wynn and Dora paid no attention to Philip.

Instead, they walked straight towards Lux Arden with excitement in their eyes.

"Sir, your skills are truly godlike! Miss Dora woke up immediately after taking the Breaking Evil Pill. It's truly amazing, truly amazing!" Wynn's face was filled with admiration, and he didn't care about the current situation as he praised Lux Arden endlessly.

Lux Arden furrowed his brow slightly and asked, "This isn't where you're supposed to be. Why did you come here?"

It was only then that Wynn seemed to notice the situation and explained, "Sir, after Miss Dora woke up, she kept insisting on seeing her savior. When she heard that you were seeking revenge, she got up from her sickbed and followed me here, eager to help you!"

Upon hearing this, Lux Arden glanced at Dora Blackwood. Their eyes met, and a warm feeling inexplicably arose in Dora's heart.

"Wow, he's so handsome.." Dora couldn't help but mutter quietly to herself.

She had originally thought that her savior, Lux Arden, was an old and eccentric monster, and had only felt grateful and curious towards him.

But upon seeing Lux Arden, she realized that he was actually a young and handsome man, which surprised her and sparked some strange feelings within her.

However, the current situation did not allow Dora to indulge in her thoughts. She composed herself and calmly bowed to Lux Arden.

"Mr. Lux, I am deeply grateful for your kindness. I have nothing to offer but this bow." Her graceful movements captured the attention of everyone present, even the twin sisters who were as beautiful as models couldn't help but feel a tinge of jealousy.

Ignoring the gazes of others, Dora continued, "From today on, your enemies are our enemies. Whoever dares to trouble you will have to face me, Dora, first!"

But Lux Arden responded coldly, "I understand, but it's not necessary."

Wynn and Dora both looked embarrassed at his response.

However, Dora thought for a moment and realized that Lux Arden probably said that to prevent the situation from escalating and to avoid implicating her.

This made her have even more favorable feelings towards him. She insisted, "You don't have to worry too much. A mere captain of the Public Security Bureau can't do anything to Lux Arden."

After speaking, she glanced contemptuously at Philip, who was still holding his gun, as if she was demonstrating her defiance.

Philip frowned.

He didn't expect Dora to be so audacious, embarrassing him in public and making it clear that she was going against him, insisting on protecting Lux Arden.

This made him somewhat furious.At this moment, one of his subordinates beside him saw the situation and stepped forward to persuade him, "Captain Philip, the Blackwood family is a prominent and influential family in Marlowe. We can't afford to provoke them. Why don't we just let it go?"
