Helios medical Institute

The old man Akira saved was currently in an advanced scan machine, with three medical professors watching the monitors and interpreting the results.

Beside him, his two grandchildren stood, alongside a newer addition, a middle aged man who seemed to be their father.

“This is impossible. How could this be?” One of the silver-haired professors exclaimed.

The girl drew closer to the professor.

“Uncle Tan, what's wrong? Did something happen to my grandfather?”

The machine beeped at that moment, signalling the end of the scan session.

The hatch was opened, and the old man was helped out of it.

“This is nothing short of a medical miracle. Where did you meet this genius?” Another professor intoned.

The old man's lips curved in a satisfied smile. He had never been wrong in reading people, and once again, he had been proven right.

The silver haired professor whom the girl referred to as uncle Tan, smiled.

“Miss Langford, your grandfather is in excellent health. The machines show that forty minutes ago, he had cardiac arrhythmia, and aortic dissection. Technically, he should have died within six to eight minutes. There was no defibrillator, nor surgical equipment available. Even with the best surgeons, the probability of saving him within that sort of complications was extremely low.”

The man pointed at a spot on the monitor.

“Look at this, the aorta tore, but it was sealed shut without surgery. The blood that accumulated due to internal bleeding caused by the ruptured aorta have all been expelled from his body. That was probably the blood Jackson said he coughed up. This is nothing short of a medical miracle. His heart and organs are in even better shape than during his last check up.”

Jackson, the old man's grandson who had fought Akira frowned slightly. “Is he really that amazing? He only stuck in a few needles, and did little massages. Are you sure you didn't see it wrong?”

His sister smacked his head hard. He turned to her, his eyes red with grievance.

“Jenlo, why are you hitting me? Grandpa already gave me a headache…”

She raised her hand again and he quickly backpedalled, his protests dying in his throat.

Old Langford nodded with a hint of satisfaction. “I felt immense relief after the young man treated me. A complicated medical situation surgery probably wouldn't have settled was done with mere acupuncture. He's definitely a genius.”

The door opened at this point, and another doctor walked in, this time a female in her twenties.

Jenlo smiled warmly at her. “Rosa how did the analysis go?”

The woman was professor Rosa Clinton, the youngest professor in Helios Medical Institute. She became a professor at just twenty-five, with lots of miraculous patents to her name. She was also the head, pharmacology department of the institute.

“This prescription is nothing short of a miracle. The combination, preparation method…they're all top notch. Probably one of the lost arts of a divine doctor. Even I couldn't have thought of this.” She forced a tight smile, embarrassed at admitting someone else was better than she was.

She was someone with lots of pride, for her to admit the person’s skill was superior, he was truly a genius.

Rosa extended the report to Jenlo, who grabbed it, her eyes roving through it.

The middle aged man smiled and sat beside old Langford on the bed.

“Father, heaven has eyes. That's why they sent a helper when we were at our wits end. Men might have forgotten your sacrifices, but heaven never overlooked your good deeds.”

“What good deeds?” The old man chuckled. “The bad I've done far overshadows the good.”

Old Langford was best known as General Dustin Langford, one of the best generals Zoria had in the previous generation. He was also the patriarch of the Langford family.

Their Langford Consolidated was a well known powerful Titan in the financial world. If the top ten powerful men were counted in Zoria, he would definitely make the list.

His son looked at Jenlo, and offered her a warm smile. “Haven't the investigation report been received yet?”

“Uncle, I will check with them.”

Jenlo stepped out to make a call, ten minutes later, she returned with a guard in tow. In the guard's hands was a blue folder.

The guard bowed down deeply, and offered the folder to the old man.

“He's Akira Luxon, a twenty-one year old medical student. His mom died yesterday after an accident, and he was fired from his internship at City hospital on charges of medical malpractice.”

“Ah?” Jenlo rushed to her grandfather and peeked at the folder, unable to reconcile Akira’s miraculous ability with the person in the folder.

“However,” the guard continued. “On closer investigation, we found out it was Marcel Keith, City hospital director, Benson Keith’s son who did it. Marcel Keith also stole Mr. Akira's research papers as his own with the help of his ex-girlfriend, and kicked him out of the hospital…”

By the time the guard finished his long narration, doubts began to creep up.

“If he was really that amazing, why didn't he save his mom and let her die?” Jackson suddenly asked.

“Everyone has their areas of specialization.” Rosa cut in. “Perhaps, healing broken bones isn't part of what he was good at.”

No one understood it, nor was able to reconcile the miracle doctor with the narrative being shown in the folder. It didn't match at all.

The old man suddenly laughed. “City hospital's management is truly foolish. They fired such a gem due to nepotism.”

He turned to the brown haired professor.

“Dean Preston, invite Akira immediately and offer him a good position in our Helios Institute. Their loss is our gain.”

“His research work doesn't seem too exceptional. It's amazing for an intern. But for a genius with his level of skills, it seems inadequate. What are we missing?” Professor Tan, who had been going through a copy of Akira's research paper which the guard had obtained, intoned, his forehead creasing into lines.

“Will you give your best to an institution that doesn't value you?” The old man asked.

“Exactly. He must have suspected he would be done dirty, so he submitted something enough to let him graduate, but not too amazing.” The other male professor added. “He's truly cautious.”

Jenlo sighed. “Will he really agree to come work with us? With what I've seen, he went through a lot recently, and will be full of suspicion.”

“We must recruit him. No matter the cost.”

The dean nodded solemnly. Deep inside he felt unhappy knowing that if Akira ever comes in, his position might become uncertain within a few years. But the Helios Medical Institute was owned by the Langford family. He didn't dare to say no.

Very well then. He would take a trip to Sun City university and see exactly how amazing this so-called genius was.

  • When trouble comes knocking

“Akira, what do you think about the quiz this time? It was too difficult.” Brad whined, his shoulders slumped as he made his way through the courtyard. “Difficult?” Akira echoed, his brows slightly narrowed in confusion. “It was very simple. I wrote everything.”“Hey!” An excited voice shouting interrupted them. Akira turned to see Michael waving at them. He had run all the way to the medical college from his business faculty to go home with them. Another boy was behind him, Gavin, Michael’s good friend and course mate. They finally caught up with them, with Michael panting. “I thought I wouldn't catch up.”He finally noticed the stunned expression on Brad’s face, and his brows slightly furrowed. “What's wrong, Brad?”“Akira was saying the research methodology quiz was too simple. I didn't write half of it!”Michael shrugged. “Well, Akira has always been intelligent—almost genius level.”Brad sighed helplessly. “He didn't sleep last night. Wasn't Akira the person who couldn't funct

The sensible thing to do was close the book and go to sleep. But curiosity has always been Akira's weakness—like all scientists. He flipped to the next page. ‘Akira Luxon, select your customized heir's welcome gift.’Akira's eyes narrowed. Wasn't the blood Phoenix guide a general instruction guide for the clan's heirs? How come it had his name engraved on it? Or did his family customize them at birth? His eyes trailed down to the optionsA. Titan indestructible physiqueB. Discerning eyes [Wealth god's legacy]C. TeleportationAkira's eyes went straight to the number two option. As someone who didn't have much money growing up, wealth was the best option for him. If he had money, he wouldn't have been so easy to bully. If he had money, his mother wouldn't have died. The discerning eye was the most palatable. Not only could it help him tell the true nature of things, it could help him avoid some traps. As for the Titan stuff, he was already stronger than he ever expected to get, a

Once Akira was sure his roommates were knocked out in a deep sleep, he woke up to check the ring again. He once heard ‘god-tier storage system binding complete’, but couldn't figure out how to check the interior. ‘Damn, I need to check inside.’ The thought sucked him back into the storage space. But this time, there was only one prominent item, a huge black book with red glows, similar to tiny fireflies surrounding it. He took a closer look at the book. On it was an ancient character which spelled ‘Blood Phoenix Guide’. Akira willed it to come out and it landed on his thigh. On coming out to the real world, the size of the book shrunk into that of a big textbook, no longer the gigantic box it once was. Shockingly, Akira could instinctively understand the characters in the book, as if they've been programmed into his DNA. He flipped open the first page. It was a very lifelike depiction of a man dressed in black trousers, shirtless, with only a wrap-around silk cloth over his arm

  • The tragedy of yesterday

Hostel 5, Sun City University. The moment Akira entered his hostel room, he met his two roommates in a heated discussion. On hearing the door open, they turned around. “Akira!” Brad exclaimed, rushing to him. The other one stood up from the desk he was initially perched on. “What happened to you man? You've been missing since you ran off yesterday morning. It's been twenty-four hours, we were debating whether to inform the police or wait.”Akira sighed and dumped the bag on his bed, sitting beside it. “It's a long story, Michael.”“I heard you were fired from the hospital yesterday, what are you going to do?” Brad's brows were furrowed, his hands on his waist. Like Akira, he was a medical student. He knew how important an internship was. Without it, they couldn't graduate. Now, videos accusing Akira of medical malpractice were flying around the internet and school forums. Getting another internship was basically impossible. Clinching the first one was hard enough, how would he gr

For a very brief moment, Akira's limbs froze. Before he could figure out what went wrong, he found his back against the ground which was shocking. Since he woke up, he noticed he became unreasonably strong. But the boy pushed him down anyway. The boy was probably well versed in martial arts. Punches rained down on Akira's face before he could defend himself. “Wait, I didn't harm him.”“You lying bastard.” The young man growled. “I warned you not to try anything funny. Now you've killed my grandpa.”“Ah?” Someone muttered a distance away. “He's awake. Stop.”Akira finally grabbed the young man's hands, preventing him from raining down any more punches. The young man slowly turned, his hand still gripped firmly in Akira's. The old man was breathing properly now, his eyes open. The young man gasped. “Grandpa! You're awake.”Akira pushed him away and he rushed to his old man, helping him to sit up. The old man looked at Alvin, then the people around. “The young man saved me?” The
